Battler Season 2
The safehouse was silent.
Too silent.
Ryo lay on a metal bed, bandages wrapped tightly around his torso. His breathing was steady now—but heavy.
Aiko sat beside him, eyes fixed on the floor.
Toya leaned against the wall, arms crossed, unusually quiet.
Kenji stood near the window, back turned to everyone.
No one spoke.
Finally, Ryo broke the silence.
"So," he said hoarsely, "you gonna explain now?"
Kenji didn't turn around.
"There's nothing noble about it," Kenji replied. "It's a Dark Contract."
Aiko's fingers tightened.
"Baran," she said softly.
Kenji turned.
All eyes snapped to her.
"You know the name?" Kenji asked.
Aiko looked up, calm but sharp. "I've seen records. Forbidden contracts. Ancient entities. The symptoms match."
She stood up and faced Kenji directly.
"Your power spikes under emotional stress. Your body deteriorates afterward. And that… thing that spoke to you during the fight—"
Kenji said nothing.
"That was Baran," Aiko finished.
Ryo laughed bitterly. "So our leader is on a leash."
Kenji's jaw clenched. "I didn't choose this to become strong. I chose it to survive."
"And what happens when it takes over?" Ryo snapped. "When you lose control?"
Kenji stepped forward. Dark veins briefly appeared on his arm—then vanished.
"Then you stop me," Kenji said. "Or kill me."
The room froze.
Toya finally spoke.
"If that day comes," he said calmly, "I'll be the shield. Even against you."
Kenji looked at him.
Toya smiled faintly. "That's my role, right?"
Aiko exhaled slowly.
"Kenji," she said, "this contract is progressing. Baran isn't just lending power anymore. He's waiting."
Kenji nodded. "I know."
Ryo turned his face away.
"Give me time," he muttered. "I'm not ready to trust you yet."
Kenji bowed his head slightly.
"That's fair."
Outside the safehouse, hidden from their senses, a shadow moved.
Someone had been listening.
