———————————————————
The sun had barely begun to tint the eastern dunes orange. On the trade routes connecting the Land of Wind to the outer sea ports, the air was thick with an unnatural humidity.
A dense, cold, heavy fog crept over the waters, climbing the wooden docks of Suna's outposts.
At the guard post, a young Suna chūnin tried to sharpen his vision. His hands quickly moved to his kunai pouch as he felt the fog rolling toward them.
Though he was a chūnin and hadn't been in many battles, he had been told something every shinobi at this outpost knew: If a fog appears out of nowhere, prepare yourself because it's the Kirigakure no Jutsu, especially and exclusively used by Kiri ninjas, perfect for their assassination techniques.
Suddenly, a subtle sound like a taut wire being pulled cut through the silence. Before he could scream, a silver metal needle pierced his throat from the back of his neck, exiting through his mouth.
There was no blood at first only the faint glint of an almost invisible steel thread connecting him to the next guard.
Kushimaru Kuriarare, wearing his Mist ANBU mask and his lanky frame, leaped from the shadows. With choreographed movements, he made his sword Nuibari dance. In less than ten seconds, five Suna ninjas had been "sewn" together, their bodies suspended in the air by a web of steel cables that sliced flesh at the slightest movement. Blood began dripping from the wires.
"Too noisy," Kushimaru whispered, pulling the thread to tighten the deadly knot finishing off those still alive.
A few meters away, a deafening explosion disintegrated one of the grain storage warehouses rendering Kushimaru's silent work useless.
Jinpachi Munashi walked over the flames, carrying his massive sword, Shibuki. The explosive tag scroll on his weapon still smoked, ready for the next detonation.
"Kushimaru! Stop playing seamstress and help me burn the rest!" Jinpachi shouted making Kushimaru only stare at him without moving.
"Who are you to tell me what to do, Jinpachi? Want to end up like them?" Kushimaru replied slowly moving his sword.
"Huh? What did you say? Come on try it. I'll blow you sky-high," Jinpachi responded, swinging Shibuki in a wide arc. Kushimaru dodged, as the ground exploded.
Two of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist hadn't come just to fight each other they had come to sabotage.
Kiri knew Suna was bleeding out on the northern front against Ōnoki and the Third Kazekage.
Cutting off the eastern supply lines would put a noose around the Land of Wind's neck and who would not enjoy watching their enemies die slowly more than Kiri.
Along with them, a fairly large group of shinobi moved some finishing off survivors, others stealing supplies, and some preparing more explosives to complete the mission.
It was a complete success and this wouldn't be the only one they'd carry out. They had several more planned. With someone like Jinpachi and Kushimaru, it wouldn't be a problem unless a strong enough ninja appeared to stop them.
So that day, not just one outpost fell several did causing messenger hawks to fly at full speed toward Sunagakure to report the attacks.
With Suna
Upon receiving the reports, they didn't hesitate they sent one straight to the Kazekage while those in charge mainly Chiyo along with some advisors prepared a large squad of ninjas for the battle they would face.
The hawk sent to the Kazekage was Suna's fastest it didn't take long to reach his hands.
"They had to be Kiri always taking advantage when we're busy with others to come and bother us. They're like vultures," the Kazekage said while reading the report as the highest-ranking Suna members were gathered.
"Iwa in the north, Kiri in the east. Now what do we do, Kazekage?" Rasa growled, looking at the map knowing things were already complicated enough without Kiri joining in.
At this, everyone fell silent as they tried to find a way to resolve the situation.
"Kazekage-sama, I think we should talk to Aoi Todo. Maybe he can help defend that zone. He's one of the few who knows that area well," Pakura said remembering how Todo trained with Daigo and how strong he was.
"Not a bad idea though I'll have to make sure Todo doesn't ignore the message and actually participates," the Kazekage replied while thinking posible way to make him accept
"If I remember correctly, Todo hasn't shown up at the village in a long time. How do you plan to make him listen?" Ebizō asked knowing Todo's attitude very well.
"Why don't you tell Daigo to ask him that favor? Isn't he Todo's student?" Rasa said offering his opinion.
"Not a bad idea but Daigo isn't in Suna, and it would be impossible for him to return unless it's absolutely necessary," the Kazekage said remembering the deal with Daigo.
"Then why not send Daigo's father, Haru? We all know he's powerful with the Seven Heavens Breathing technique and can easily face jōnin," Ebizō said drawing everyone's attention.
"Haru? Isn't he a chūnin?" Rasa asked recalling having seen him once.
"Yes because he's rejected every attempt to promote him to jōnin. But he's easily one. We'll do that we'll send Haru as squad leader along with a number of ninjas to protect the east.
And if he convinces Todo to participate, those two should be able to handle it without one of us having to abandon this front and let Iwa overrun us,"
"As you say. I'll send the details to Suna so my sister can handle sending them and take care of the east," Ebizō replied beginning to write the report.
"Now what do we do with Iwa? Thanks to the Kazekage and Arata not entering the field, Iwa hasn't sent theirs either. We could launch an attack with me, Pakura, Sasori, and his puppet squad to gain more advantage," Rasa asked looking at the Kazekage for permisión.
"Is better to stay on the defensive for now our shinobi are tired or injured. We have the advantage of attacking when we want. They won't because they can't weaken themselves with Kumo and Konoha watching their moves,"
"I think staying defensive would waste our advantage but as you say. Let me know if you need me," Pakura said before leaving the room letting them continue talking
Pakura walked toward one of the main tents Sasori. She knocked to enter.
"Come in," Sasori's voice came from inside.
Pakura didn't take long to enter finding the tent dark except where Sasori sat on the floor drinking tea as if nothing bothered him.
"What brings you here, Pakura?" Sasori asked looking at her.
"I heard from Chiyo before she left that you managed to talk to Daigo. How is he?" Pakura asked.
"Yes he answered something I asked him, but he didn't tell me much about himself. Only that he was close to using Shōton freely and creating jutsu," Sasori said.
"Ah, I see. How long do you think this war will last?"
"From what I see, it'll be quite long. I don't know what the Kazekage is doing but I feel like with the jinchūriki out and Ōnoki not making a move, it would be the perfect time to attack," Sasori said.
"So you were listening to the meeting," Pakura asked.
"Yes quite boring. Though at least I don't have to repair puppets if we don't go to fight," Sasori said taking another drink of his cup.
"I see. Here take this. If you're going to send something to Daigo, give him this too. I'm leaving I'll take the chance to rest," Pakura said leaving a scroll with Sasori before walking away, leaving Sasori in his peace.
The scroll Pakura left rested on the table but Sasori barely glanced at it. His thoughts were elsewhere: on the eastern coast. though Daigo himself didn't yet know yet that he had been involved without even be here. And now his father was heading to the eastern front along with his sensei.
"Maybe he comeback early than expected"
One week later
After a week of marching from Sunagakure, the reinforcement squad finally spotted the campfires of the outpost they needed to reach before heading to the recent Kiri attacks.
Unlike what they expected where Todo's camp should have been nothing was destroyed in the sea as anticipated.
Only smoke rose from the camp like a giant bonfire though to everyone's surprise, five explosions rang out from the camp one after another.
Haru as leader didn't hesitate to order the ninjas following him.
"Maintain formation! Split into three one through the middle, one to the right, one to the left. If you don't see enemies, secure the terrain," he said running toward the camp with his group.
While Haru and the others ran, the explosions grew louder blasting everything in their path.
Without waiting, they entered seeing several corpses on the ground that looked blown to pieces by explosions.
Those still alive were all on high alert toward the person standing in front of everyone.
Haru noticing the person was Todo, who seemed to be fighting everyone alone didn't hesitate to land along with the other ninjas behind Todo who looked at him.
"Huh? A Suna squad who sent you?" Todo asked looking at the newcomers.
"Nice to meet you. I see you're busy. I'm Haru the squad leader the kazekage send us," Haru said assuming a guard stance upon recognizing the attackers.
"Hmm… I see Suna already responded to the attacks. Kushimaru what do you think? Do we keep going or retreat?" Jinpachi asked looking at Kushimaru.
"You want to run? Don't be a coward. The only danger is Aoi Todo I didn't expect we would find him here," Kushimaru replied his voice a little annoyed at having to fight someone so complicated.
"The retreat was for you I see you're scared," Jinpachi laughed preparing his sword.
With Todo he looked at Haru for a moment trying to why he look similar to Daigo
"You look a lot like my brother," Todo asked looking at Haru who stared back confused.
"Your brother? Who is he? What's his name?" Haru asked jumping from his previous spot upon noticing the metal threat on the ground.
"My brother's name is Daigo. You have the same eyes as him" Todo replied dodging a blow from Jinpachi.
The other ninjas seeing there leader fighting didn't hesitate to join the attack starting the battle each other.
"Oh you mean my son. How did you meet him?" Haru asked barely dodging a trap from Kushimaru.
"So you're my brother's father that's why you look like him. He is my disciple But I haven't asked you what's your type?" Todo asked while blocking a slash from Jinpachi and sending him flying with a strong blow.
Jinpachi who had been knocked away only grew angrier hearing Todo and Haru talking as if they were friend who have not seen during years while he was trying to kill them
"Kushimaru stop fooling around. These idiots are playing with us I'll blow them to pieces!" Jinpachi shouted in anger making Kushimaru not respond, but his movements became a little more serious.
"Eh my type? Well, my wife has a nice butt that's why she ended up conquering me though her attitude can get dangerous when she wants," Haru replied barely dodging another trap from Kushimaru.
Todo who was dodging explosions felt tears of happiness fall from his eyes upon hearing Haru's answer.
While this was happening, Jinpachi who was attacking Todo nonstop noticed his surroundings change. He saw they were now in a different beach with women watching them from around while three figures in the middle showed off their muscles in swimsuits.
The three figures Jinpachi recognized two: Todo and Haru. The third though younger than both was doing the same.
"Kai," Jinpachi said trying to break the genjutsu but it didn't seem to work. The image change.
Now the three figures were no longer on a beach they were at what looked like a party on a mansion. The main door opened showing the same three people, though now not in swimsuits.
They wore formal suits each a different color: Todo in black, Haru in a grey one, and the last in white all of them with big smiles on their face. Moments later, everything changed again.
Back to where he was fighting Jinpachi stopped his attack to step back and punch himself in the face for what he had just seen trying to deleted from his brain.
Though it seemed he wasn't the only one who saw everything since Kushimaru was in the same situation knocking his head to no remember anything he saw.
Todo falling beside Haru who was waiting for Kushimaru to attack only nodded toward Todo who looked at him.
"Haru, I love your family. Let me be part of it."
"Clap"
