In the Suna base, the atmosphere was far from ideal during these months of war.

Silence echoed through the camping tents, and the few sounds came from some ninjas talking to pass the time or others standing guard.

The Kazekage knew what was happening. Suna had won the first confrontation, but all the others had survived thanks to strategy rather than power.

And with Ōnoki on the battlefield, things had changed. They had already lost quite a few shinobi lives due to his Dust Release destroying the Third Kazekage's jutsus.

Even Arata himself had been kept back since as a larger target, it would be easier for Ōnoki to finish him off.

That's why the only advantage the Kazekage saw was calling Chiyo to create enough poisons to win more through that than through jinchūriki and himself.

Chiyo who received the message didn't hesitate to go and support Suna. She also accepted to see Sasori, who had been participating since the beginning of the war.

Though he was a shinobi, Chiyo knew how dangerous these wars were and how they could change people.

So when she arrived, she went straight to the Kazekage and then looked for Sasori though she didn't see him, so she asked the other puppeteers, who informed her he was in his tent and didn't come out unless it was absolutely necessary or time for combat.

Chiyo only thanked the ninja and went to Sasori's tent. Without knocking, she entered finding everything dark except where Sasori sat, working on something related to a puppet.

"So you've been hiding here. You know that's not good for your health," Chiyo said, leaving her things on one of the small tables.

"Grandma, when did you arrive?" Sasori asked, looking at her.

"A few minutes ago. The Kazekage called me to create poisons for the war. How have you been?" Chiyo asked.

"Fine. The war isn't going well, but with you here, things should turn in our favor," Sasori said, continuing to repair his puppet.

At this, Chiyo said nothing more and simply observed her grandson. Though he hadn't said much, she knew something was wrong with him.

It was a grandmother's instinct and she knew that even if she asked, she wouldn't get any explanation from him.

"Do you know anything about Daigo?" Sasori asked this time.

"Oh, Daigo keeps training with his summonings. I haven't spoken to him directly, but thanks to Isho the elephant who's in Suna, I've been able to communicate with him," Chiyo said remembering how much Daigo must have improved.

"I see. Grandma, what do you think about puppets?" Sasori asked, leaving Chiyo a little confused by the random question.

"What do you mean by puppets?"

"I mean why you use puppets and what value they have for you," Sasori clarified.

"For that question I said I use them because they're tools that help my village and my specialty that is poison. They combine perfectly plus, it was thanks to my sensei Chikamatsu who taught me why puppets are so powerful," Chiyo explained.

"I see. You've never thought about making a puppet that isn't made of wood and can use jutsu unlike kunai or swords?"

"I've tried, but it requires a very high level of fūinjutsu to achieve it. Maybe the Uzumaki could do it," Chiyo said explaining why she couldn't do it

At Chiyo's response, Sasori only shook his head, grabbed a scroll, and began writing on it.

"What are you writing?" Chiyo asked.

"It's for you to give to Daigo when you return to the village. I want his opinion on something important. I've learned something during this time, and you didn't give me the answer I was looking for," Sasori said.

Chiyo only nodded though she was wondering what answer he expected from her. But if Daigo could answer him, that would be best.

So when Sasori finished and sealed the scroll, he handed it to Chiyo who took it and put it away.

"I'll be here for a few weeks. When I return to Suna, I'll send it to him. I hope he gives you the answer you're looking for," Chiyo said before leaving the tent.

Leaving Sasori alone who, sensing no one nearby, opened another scroll, and the body of an Iwa ninja appeared on an empty table.

"Puppets are tools, Grandma but I think there's a way to make them truly eternal art and capable of much more," he said to himself while using a scalpel to cut open the stomach area.

Opening it completely and seeing how the organs had been perfectly preserved without any sign of decomposition as if the corpse had been killed at that very moment.

With an almost perfect movement and using containers to store organs, Sasori began removing organ after organ from the body leaving it without any.

This was essential for the creation Sasori was making because if he didn't do it, the body could rot from the inside and make all his work useless.

He also drain all the blood from the corpse, leaving what looked like a body with skin and bones. And to finish, nerves and chakra pathways.

That was the most essential part of the project. After all these months, Sasori had realized that if he left the nerves along with the chakra pathways, there might be a possibility for this puppet to use jutsu using its chakra as fuel for the puppet.

It would have been a long-term experiment but with the amount of deaths in the war and corpses on the battlefield, Sasori had obtained enough subjects to study fastening his knowledge of human anatomy.

Sasori continued working with surgical precision that bordered on obsessive. The oil lamp's light flickered, casting long shadows that made the Iwa shinobi's corpse seem to move under his hands.

He remembered the scroll he had given his grandmother for Daigo.

In it, he didn't just ask for an opinion he proposed a theory: Is it possible for crystal to bond with organic matter without destroying it?

That's one question he left for him because If Daigo could create a microscopic layer of crystal over the puppet's skeleton, and the nerves along with the chakra pathways, the body would be preserved in better condition than any other way.

With no other though in his mind he didn't waste time and continued with his work while the other shinobi relaxed from not having to fight now he keep learning more of how finish his art.

Weeks later

Meanwhile, in the summoning realm, Daigo was training when the peace was interrupted by ZōYū's arrival with a scroll.

Chiyo fulfilling her promise after returning from the front had sent Sasori's sealed scroll to Daigo.

Daigo was resting next to Iron after an exhausting session of medical ninjutsu. His tired hands have been like this since he start training with Iron.

"A message from Sasori?" Daigo asked, taking the scroll with curiosity.

(How strange. He doesn't usually write unless he needs something about puppets.) Daigo said In his mind

Upon breaking the seal and reading the first lines, Daigo's face changed from curiosity to absolute seriousness.

Message

Daigo, I don't know what you've been doing these months, but I haven't fallen behind during the war. Seeing people die along with many puppets has changed my way of thinking. I've also found a new goal I want to achieve.

I tried to get Grandma's opinion on what I'm about to create, but she didn't give me what I was looking for and I think you're the only person who would understand me.

I want to create eternal art puppets that aren't just made of wood, that are completely different from the ones that already exist.

Using a human body as a base. I know it sounds crazy, but it's possible and that these puppets can use jutsu as if they were living bodies.

Let me know what you think about this and tell me the truth don't lie to me.

Daigo finishing reading the main part of the letter only nodded to himself. He knew that one day Sasori would reach this conclusion but he didn't think it would be so soon.

"It seems the war really does change people," Daigo said to himself continuing to read some details Sasori had left about how the technique works.

Iron noticing the change in his pupil's heart rate approached, his huge shadow covering Daigo.

"What's wrong, Daigo? Your aura changed to serious when you read the text," Iron asked.

"Iron, what do you think if someone could create puppets with dead people's bodies and that these puppets could use techniques like jutsu?" Daigo asked wanting to know his answer.

"That's the opposite of what I'm teaching you, Daigo. But looking at it from the ninja side, it would be something totally ingenious and dangerous for whoever it's used against being able to use jutsu with simple puppets. It wouldn't matter losing one puppet if you can kill several shinobi with it," Iron said.

"From my side as a person, I think it's wrong to do it, Iron but as a shinobi, it's a highly valuable technique not to do it," Daigo gave his point of view

Iron only nooded at what Daigo said stepped back a little from Daigo to sit down and serve tea for both of them, Daigo didn't refuse the tea and sat next to him to enjoyed .

"I understand, Daigo. Though my grandfather is the wisest, I've also learned a lot. While you don't end up doing the same creating human puppets no one among us will tell you anything. Do what you feel is right,"

"I understand but he says he needs my help with my Shōton to help him. Wouldn't that make me part of creating them?" Daigo asked.

At that, Iron only nodded to think before speaking.

"I'll talk to my grandfather, and he'll talk to the others. If they agree that you do that, there won't be any problem but if they don't accept, it's forbidden for you," Iron said making Daigo nod in confirmation.

"Iron, normally I would never do this but Sasori is my little brother. And if Suna is dying in that war and he's willing to dirty his hands to give us an advantage, I can't turn my back on him. But I'll have to set a condition to him,"

Daigo took a brush and began writing the response on a new scroll. His words were clear and loaded with authority towards Sasori

"Sasori, I understand what you seek. Your vision of 'Eternity' makes sense especially seeing death so closely. I'll help you but only when I master Shōton. But listen carefully: if you ever try to do this with someone from our village, or if you lose your humanity in the process, I'll use that same crystal to kill you myself. Use it so Suna doesn't have to cry more deaths. Be our hope but don't become a monster because you though about being one"

Daigo sealed the scroll with a pink crystal seal that glowed with an inner light. He handed it to ZōYū who had remained silent throughout the conversation and looked at Iron.

"Sensei, I need to hurry my Yang training. If Sasori needs this, it's because things are getting worse. I need to be strong enough to stop him if he loses his way."

Iron nodded solemnly.

"Tomorrow we'll start with Yang energy injection into injured animals. If you want to help your brother without his soul being lost, you'll have to learn to give those puppets a purpose that goes beyond simple killing."

Days later at the Suna base, Sasori received the reply. Upon reading Daigo's threat, a small and rare smile appeared on his pale face.

It wasn't a mocking smile, but one of relief. Daigo hadn't judged him; he had accepted him and even given him a boundary.

"A crystal grave, huh?" Sasori murmured, gazing at a new corpse prepared on his table. "It won't be necessary, Daigo. With this, I'll make sure you reach the Kazekage seat standing on the bodies of all our enemies."

In a world where everything is chaos and death, and the strong can do whatever they want, Daigo's restraint is the only thing keeping Sasori anchored to reality and preventing him from becoming like the original Sasori from Naruto.
