Daigo's introduction caused many different reactions among those who didn't know himthey thought he was crazy.
Whispers rippled through the room, with some advisors exchanging skeptical glances and murmuring things like "Who does this kid think he is?" or "Arrogant brat must be out of his mind." One elder even scoffed audibly, shaking his head in disbelief.
For those who did know Daigo like Chiyo, Ebizō, Pakura, Sasori, the Kazekage, and Rasa they knew he was completely serious.
Chiyo raised an eyebrow with a knowing smile, Ebizō leaned forward thoughtfully, Pakura crossed her arms but nodded subtly in approval, Sasori remained impassive but attentive, and Rasa clenched his jaw, his eyes narrowing in a mix of irritation and curiosity. The Kazekage simply watched with a steady gaze, unflinching.
"I see many of you aren't convinced but I'll show you something to make you understand," Daigo said forming hand seals and touching the ground.
Gasps echoed as the crystal began to spread, with some ninjas stepping back in surprise and others leaning in, wide-eyed.
"Shōton: Haku Hyō no Maku (Crystal Release: Thin Crystal Veil)," Daigo said as crystal began to cover the surface of the floor.
Murmurs grew louder: "What is this?" "Is that… crystal?" "Impossible he's controlling it!"
It didn't just cover the floor it also spread across the walls and ceiling, turning the old, boring meeting room into an elegant space fit for the wealthy, with shining pink crystal.
The room filled with awe-struck exclamations: "It's beautiful!" "How is he doing that?" One advisor reached out to touch the wall, pulling back as if expecting it to shatter, while another whispered excitedly to his neighbor.
"This is my bloodline Shōton. And though I wanted to keep it hidden, I have to use it so you understand why I will be the next Kazekage," Daigo said now looking at how the others no longer saw him as a stupid kid.
The skeptical murmurs shifted to intrigued nods and respectful silence, with a few elders exchanging impressed glances.
"Alright, Daigo worthy enough. What do you have in mind? You didn't come back just for show," the Kazekage said feeling all this was a waste of time, knowing what Daigo was capable of.
The room leaned in collectively, the tension palpable as everyone waited.
"Fine. First, let's talk about the war against Iwa. I think everyone here knows we're currently the weakest village of all, right?" Daigo said loudly looking around. Some shook their heads their pride hurt, with grumbles like "We're not weak!" or "How dare he say that?" while others accepted it as the truth, sighing or nodding grimly.
"So why face Iwa head-on when they beat us in numbers, in money, in territory? It's a waste of resources we've already lost and now we're worse off than when we started," Daigo explained. Nods spread through the room, with one ninja muttering "He's got a point," and an advisor whispering "Finally, someone says it out loud."
At this, the others nodded, some with reluctant agreement, others with visible frustration etched on their faces.
"So what's your idea? We know we're the weakest, but we have to prove that's a lie," a ninja said, his voice challenging but curious, prompting a few "Yeah!" echoes from the group.
"My point is we have to fight differently. Instead of acting like honorable samurai and battling on an open field with no traps or tricks we're shinobi. Soldiers prepare to fight with surprise attacks." Eyebrows raised, and low discussions broke out: "He's right we've been too straightforward,"
"But that's not our way!" The room buzzed with mixed reactions, some nodding vigorously, others frowning in disagreement.
"I see the reason in your words, Daigo, and I understand your frustration but you said it yourself: Suna is in a very weak state," Chiyo spoke this time making Daigo nod.
"Exactly, Grandma Chiyo. That's why I propose we forget about the war for a while and focus on defending our borders," Daigo said looking at the Kazekage.
"And what happens after? We just stay like this? That solves nothing," the Kazekage replied, his tone firm, drawing supportive nods from Rasa and a few advisors who crossed their arms expectantly.
"That would happen if I weren't here. During my training, I came up with an idea we can take advantage of during the war. There's a big problem for merchants during war period: because of all the major villages' movements, they prefer to cancel their business and trade out of fear of dying to ninjas.
But what if there was a route where they could pass completely safely and reach their destination?" Daigo asked. Eyes widened, and excited murmurs spread: "A safe route? That could work…" "Merchants would pay anything!"
"If it's possible even in wartime money would keep flowing instead of stopping," an elder commented, his voice thoughtful.
"Exactly well thought out, fossil. So what do you think if the Land of Wind becomes that place? We can charge whatever we want and get enough money to rise again and attack with full force," Daigo said extending his hands for dramatic effect.
Silence answered Daigo's words though it wasn't complete silence; it was the necessary pause they took to think, with furrowed brows and exchanged glances of calculation.
Everyone here knew that if it was true and they could achieve it, things would be completely different from their current situation. Whispers of "This could change everything…" and "Finally, a real plan!" filled the air.
If they controlled 80% of the southern trade routes, they wouldn't be in this financial mess and could increase their forces.
"It's an interesting idea, Daigo though something's missing to convince me. How would we achieve it? Right now, it's just words," the Kazekage asked looking at Daigo, his skepticism drawing curious looks from the group.
"Don't worry, Sensei I'll tell you now. I need a large map so you can see," Daigo requested.
Two ANBU didn't take long to return with it placing it on the center table. The room crowded around, everyone straining to see.
With all attention on the map and Daigo, the ninjas and advisors stood from their chairs to get a better look, leaning in with focused expressions.
"I see everyone's interested perfect. As I showed you with my crystal, it's not just for fighting it's also useful for this plan. My ideaif you look here, that's Suna, right?" Daigo indicated, pointing as heads bobbed in agreement.
"Then what I'll do is build crystal tunnels beneath the sand throughout the Land of Wind connecting to many different places in the other places," Daigo said marking the tunnel paths on the map.
"But Daigo, that's insane. Building that many tunnels would take you years just from chakra exhaustion," Rasa said now more interested, leaning closer with a furrowed brow.
"That's true but I have this that will help if you all do your part," Daigo said taking out a scroll.
When the fūinjutsu seal was released, it showed them all, "A seal?.
"That's a chakra storage seal. I understand you want us to give you chakra so you can continue construction without the problem of chakra exhaustion," Chiyo said being one of the most knowledgeable in fūinjutsu in Suna, earning nods of realization from the others.
"Yes that solves my chakra problem. Though it'll be very heavy and continuous, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make if Suna becomes the strongest village in the world," Daigo replied earning everyone's respect for making such a commitment. Applause broke out from a few and ninjas exchanging impressed looks.
With the idea and the way to make it possible, only one person remained to accept so Daigo could start building tunnels like crazy across the Land of Wind and that was the Kazekage. The room turned expectant, all eyes on him.
With everyone looking at the Kazekage, he spoke.
"You have the green light. This is a Class-SS secret until Daigo says it's time to open it to merchants. Everyone may leave except Daigo," the Kazekage said. Relieved sighs and nods followed, with some patting Daigo on the back as they exited.
At his words, everyone with new energy and visions of the future walked toward the exit though some wished to hear what the Kazekage and Daigo would talk about, the order had been given. Whispers of excitement lingered in the hall as they left.
With the room empty and Daigo sitting waiting for the Kazekage to speak he simply sat thinking about all the work he'd have to do for months.
"You came back from training to see all the mistake we really messed up in the war," the Kazekage asked this time his steel voice carried a tone Daigo could feel wasn't a Kage-to-shinobi talk, but a teacher-to-disciple one.
"That's right, Sensei. Charging head-on against Iwa was a mistake Suna would have paid dearly for if you hadn't retreated," Daigo said.
"I understand it's not just Suna. I have to become stronger to help Suna the way you're doing. Thank you for doing so much for Suna without being Kazekage," the Third Kazekage replied.
"It's nothing but Sensei, I have a question I've had since you started training me."
"What is it?"
"What's your name? You've never told me and everyone just calls you Kazekage."
This left the Kazekage blank as memories flooded his mind, realizing that since becoming Kage, his name had disappeared.
"You're right, Daigo. My name is Kaizo. It's been a long time since anyone called me that," Kaizo said.
"Well, Kaizo-sensei don't worry. I promise the village will become stronger. But before I go, I have a mission for you," Daigo said to Kaizo who nodded.
"How necessary is the Wind Daimyō?" Daigo asked.
"He's very necessary, Daigo. If your idea is to kill him, it's impossible we'd have the whole world against us, including the samurai."
"Damn I was going to ask you to eliminate that useless daimyō. Fine if that's not possible, keep him busy while I build these tunnels. We need to get the most benefit for a while before we have to share it with him," Daigo explained.
"Alright don't worry, I'll handle that."
"Ohand finally, before I leavecan you form a unit of ninjas with strong Wind affinity? I have an idea for a jutsu that could help us in the war."
"Send me the details of the jutsu and how it would work I'll take care of that. You already have enough work without thinking about training people too."
"Fine alright, that's all. I'm leaving bye," Daigo said leaving the room.
He didn't take more than two steps before seeing someone waiting for him leaning against the wall.
"Oh, Pakura-chan how have you been?" Daigo said approaching though he was surprised when, instead of words, he received a hug from her.
Daigo returned it though surprised he hadn't expected the proud Pakura to greet him with a hug one day instead of a nod.
Seconds later, Pakura realizing what she had done pulled back, looking out the window to avoid his gaze.
"Hahaha I didn't know you missed me that much, Pakura-chan," Daigo said with a teasing smile.
"Shut up, idiot," Pakura replied hitting him in the ribs.
"Hah alright, I'll stop. Though I really like that new perfume you're wearing it suits you perfectly," Daigo said rubbing the spot Pakura hit missing her blushing cheeks.
"Looks like I arrived at the wrong moment," a calm voice said Sasori, who looked at both taking in the situation.
"Oh, Sasori you've grown. You're almost my height already. It's been so long I don't remember the last time I saw you how you've been," Daigo said looking at Sasori, who brushed Daigo's hand off his head.
"Everything's fine. I came to greet you after that entrance and spectacle. I didn't expect you to arrive now," Sasori replied.
"Ah that's because they're doing things wrong. Someone has to come save the situation. How's that going?" Daigo asked changing his tone slightly at the last part.
"In progress. When you have time, you can stop by my workshop to see it."
"Alright one of these days. As you know, I'll be very busy. What do you say we go eat? You too, Pakura-chan I'm paying."
Unable to refuse, Daigo dragged both to a restaurant to eat his favorite food meat skewers.
Daigo missing the food didn't let a single skewer escape, devouring everything on the table.
While Sasori and Pakura watched seeing that despite time passing and Daigo getting stronger he was still the same.
"How did the war go for you two? You've been in it from the beginning," Daigo asked.
"I learned a lot. Thanks to your jutsu ideas, I improved quite a bit finishing off many ninjas. Though in the end, you know how it went," Pakura said.
"Same here my poison skills improved at a very fast rate, along with my other project," Sasori replied.
"I see you've both done quite well. And the others Baki, Shizuka, Arata how have they been?"
"Baki and Shizuka no idea but I heard about Ben becoming a little famous in the kiri front.
Arata's still as crazy as ever though it seems almost dying several times has made him a little smarter," Pakura said.
"Well, Arata still needs more experience to improve so that's fine. I hope to find him to give him another beating."
"What project are you two talking about? You've been mentioning it for a while," Pakura asked drawing both their attention though Sasori became a little more serious.
"It's something between Sasori and me don't worry. When it's finished, you'll see it. For now, it's a secret."
"Fine but you have to show me when you finish."
"As you say."
That's how the day ended with Daigo, using his impeccable tactics, managing to leave without paying leaving the giant bill for Pakura and Sasori who cursed Daigo for always doing the same thing.
Afterward, Daigo went home spending time with his mother, since his father was still in the east with Todo. He enjoyed his day before what was to come.
