"It seems I can't keep collecting the same attributes from a person…" Sunless mused internally.
If his guess wasn't wrong, he couldn't keep getting the strength attribute from his sister, although it seemed other attributes wouldn't be affected.
"In short, over time, the number of attributes I obtain from a person decreases until it's probably nonexistent. Meaning I would have to get the needed attributes from others."
Sunless pondered on the explanation for a bit and wasn't too disappointed.
It just meant he couldn't continue leeching off one person, but it didn't mean he couldn't leech off others.
Suddenly, a siren echoed in the surroundings and before Sunless and the two girls could realize, they were surrounded.
A loud voice boomed through a speaker, echoing throughout the building.
"Surrender yourselves to the authorities and we'll make your punishment as light as possible!"
The voice was masculine and it seemed to carry some weight.
Jane's eyes briefly flickered as she pondered a bit on the strength of the man who was speaking.
After a while of pondering, she turned to Sunless. "It's nothing to worry about, let's leave the place."
As she finished speaking, she turned towards the window and jumped without hesitation, to the shock of Sunless and Sonia.
The window was, surprisingly, large enough to accommodate her slender figure as she lunged forward, and glass splintered around, with some even grazing her skin.
Unfortunately, none of them could cause any harm to her.
She flipped twice before landing casually on the ground surrounded by a few bushes.
Then she casually turned towards Sunless, who had a stupefied expression on his face. He hadn't expected his sister to be so agile…
Still, noticing a few bubbles that were likely agility bubbles dropped along the way, he smiled and also lunged through the window.
On the way down, Sunless could feel his control over his body increase and he twisted midair, executing a flip and finally landing on the ground perfectly.
He casually stood up and noticed his sister's stunned expression.
It was clear that she had wanted to show off and hadn't expected Sunless to even surpass her execution a little.
Sunless smirked to himself and they both turned around to face the window where Sonia was standing.
She stared at the two, then at the height she would have to jump, and turned a little pale in fright.
How could Sunless jump from such a height and even twist midair?
She was dumbfounded at the thought. She glanced at them once more, then back at the distance, and hesitated on whether to jump or not.
"Get on with it," Jane urged lightly.
"We will be heading inside now. I hope no one tries anything funny. We are authorized to kill on sight should we have an appropriate reason."
His words made a chill run down Sonia's spine and her heart pounded heavily in her chest.
Still, she was reluctant to jump. This could potentially endanger her life. What if she landed on her neck? Broke a leg? Or something much worse?
She had seen all sorts of injuries happen to her patients and unknowingly, it had caused a certain phobia to blossom in her heart.
Sonia glanced at Sunless and Jane reluctantly and sighed with a shaky breath.
Bang!
Suddenly, the door burst open and three men armed with guns, pointed in her direction, stepped into view.
Sonia's body moved on its own and she jumped without hesitation. It seemed the fear of death was much greater than the phobia she had developed.
Still, she shut her eyes tight and didn't actively move to stabilize herself.
At the rate she was falling, it was clear she was going to get herself badly injured.
Surprisingly, just when she thought she would collide with the hard ground, she felt a pair of strong, muscular arms grip her tightly.
In a daze, she opened her eyes, causing strands of her disheveled hair to reveal the image of the handsome Sunless gripping her tightly.
He didn't seem strained by her weight and, feeling the softness of her body, he commented absentmindedly, "Soft and… a little light."
Sonia instantly felt heat creeping up her cheeks at the comment and quickly wriggled herself out of his grip.
Sunless was holding her in a bridal style, so his hand was just below her butt while the other was almost cupping her breast.
The position made her feel shy, a little awkward, and caused her heart to race with some expectations.
Feeling her wriggle beneath his grip, Sunless chuckled and dropped her gently.
Then, he felt a sense of danger and quickly picked his steel rod.
Bang!
A shot was fired in their direction.
Without hesitation, Sunless swung his rod at lightning speed as though he could predict the trajectory of the bullet.
Surprisingly, a clang echoed and something that seemed like a small stone was sent flying towards the bushes.
The officer seemed shocked that Sunless had so casually hit his bullet away with a swing of his rod.
It was something inhuman.
As though in a daze, he released multiple gunshots and the sound of gunshots also resounded behind him as his comrades fired off as well.
Sunless noticed the multiple bullets heading in his direction but still kept his calm as he gently waved his rod around.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sounds of metal clashing against metal echoed incessantly and within minutes Sunless had dealt with all the bullets.
Cling! Cling! Cling!
At the same time, all three police officers heard the sound of the gun signaling that the round of bullets had finished.
Gobsmacked, they turned to Sunless who was casually staring at them through the holes in his mask.
They couldn't have expected that he would deal with all those bullets using just a metal rod.
Sunless glanced at them and then shook his head, and the officers noticed a flicker of disappointment cross his eyes.
"Disappointment? He's disappointed in us?" The guards were bewildered.
How could Sunless look disappointed in them? They were the ones who were supposed to be disappointed in themselves!
By the side, Jane also stared at her brother like she had seen a ghost and her mind was screaming internally.
Such precision, such intense calculation, such perfect control of strength…
It had to take someone with a high level of strength and speed to so easily execute what Sunless had done.
"This… isn't he supposed to be a normal human? Although he has 'that' just like me, but still… he couldn't have awakened it now… how is he so strong?"
Jane internally asked herself whether she could do what Sunless had just done and as easily as he had, and she found her answer immediately…
"No, I can't…"
"Once a big brother… always a big brother…" The words that Sunless had told her all those years ago echoed in her mind.
