Sunless gulped lightly as he could faintly glimpse her cleavage peeking out from her shirt.
"Because… I… like you, Sunless…"
Sunless didn't know why—perhaps it was the hint of seductiveness laced in her voice as she spoke—but he felt a rush of blood course through his body as she whispered those words into his ear.
After gulping a mouthful of air, he distanced himself from her and responded with a simple, "okay."
A flicker of disappointment crossed Jennifer's eyes, but she waved it off and replaced the expression on her face with a teasing smile.
Sunless felt shivers at her gaze, like he was being eyed by a beast.
But, strangely, he didn't hate the feeling…
"Cough, aren't you going to take your leave?" Sonia said with a narrowed gaze.
She didn't know why, but she felt a hint of provocation just standing in front of Jennifer, and subconsciously, a sense of protectiveness toward Sunless arose in her heart.
Noticing her glare, Jennifer glanced at Sunless, then at Sonia, and chuckled before muttering something under her breath.
Just as Sonia was about to say something, Jennifer walked past her and exited the hospital room.
'Who even let her in?' Sonia clicked her tongue in annoyance, glancing at her as she walked away, swaying her hips seductively as though she wanted to entrance Sunless.
Fortunately, he wasn't looking in her direction and instead seemed to be pondering something.
Sonia shut the door behind her and walked to the side, folding her arms.
She looked a little furious about something.
Sunless finished his session of pondering and turned to his sister with a smile.
"What do you think about her proposal?"
"Me?" Jane asked, bewildered.
Sunless nodded. If his guess wasn't wrong… he might have figured out Jane's identity.
But he couldn't be certain, as he had only been with this new version of her for a day.
'I'd need a few more days to confirm my guess…'
Sunless nodded to himself and waited for his sister's reply.
Jane's eyes flickered with calculation before she answered.
"For her to be able to obtain passes for exploring the spirit continent, it only shows that her identity isn't ordinary in the slightest.
Due to that, we need to try our best to increase our strength before deciding whether to follow her to the spirit continent."
Jane paused slightly, then said in a solemn tone.
"The spirit continent is one of abundant energy and many miraculous yet perilous areas—treasures, resources, and much more. It's being controlled by the governments, as they want to be in control of humanity's growth, so that's something to keep in mind as well…"
"I think you should reject her offer…"
Sunless was about to interrupt Jane when she continued.
"Not completely," she said. "I'll go with her to the spirit continent."
"You?" Sunless immediately shook his head, completely rejecting the idea.
Jane's lips parted to speak, but no words came out of her mouth. Because of that, she knew she couldn't completely tell Sunless what she had in mind.
Instead, she paused slightly, then said, "Just trust me, bro. I can handle myself there… I'll be alright, and I'll even return with the rewards!"
Although she sounded convincing, and she looked at Sunless with a pleading gaze, hoping he would trust her on this, Sunless still shook his head.
How could he let his sister head to the spirit continent while he enjoyed life here peacefully?
If he were to do that, what sort of brother would he be? And coupled with the fact that he was given a cheat, how could he still remain useless?
Sunless ruffled her hair slightly. "I know what you're thinking, silly girl."
"But you need to understand, I'm your big brother here. I'd do the protecting, while you explore the world without a care…"
His words brought warmth to Jane's heart—but also some worry.
She had attained unimaginable heights in her previous life, hence she was sure she could regain some strength with time.
However, Sunless was different!
No matter how much she helped him, it would undoubtedly be difficult for his strength to increase as fast as hers!
How could she allow her brother to be endangered?
She couldn't let that happen!
She wanted to refute Sunless, but he shook his head and dropped the matter.
"Let's go for a check-up. Today our illness didn't act up, which is a good thing, but I need to understand what's happening exactly to be sure of our condition."
Jane seemed hesitant before her furrowed brows relaxed, and she nodded with a smile.
By the side, Sonia watched the exchange with folded arms, and a slight jealousy surged into her heart.
Why… why didn't Sunless care about her as much as that?
She stared at Sunless and felt a complex mix of emotions stir in her chest.
Letting out a faint sigh, she shook her head and turned around, trying to shrug the matter off her mind.
She then led Sunless and his sister to do their check-up, and they returned a few moments later.
On both their faces was a relieved expression, and there was even a look of joy on Sonia's face.
It was clear that she was just a step away from jumping into Sunless' arms for a hug!
"Ten years… ten years! You have ten more years to live, miraculously!"
And best of all… it wasn't just Sunless who could now live for more than ten years—his sister could as well!
It was as though there was some miraculous change in their bodies, causing their lifespans to be expanded drastically.
"It's nothing much," Jane offered with a wry smile on her face.
She knew that becoming a martial warrior granted one the chance to live up to 150 years.
Still, due to the curse on them, they could only live for ten.
The thought made her heart clench, and she was filled with bitterness.
Sunless sensed her emotions and smiled. "Don't worry too much about it."
His thoughts were different, however…
If just becoming a martial warrior could grant him ten more years of time, then what about ascending to the peak of the world?
Were there people who could live for thousands of years?
