Chapter 12 - Playing Hero

Still, a faint thought tugged at the corner of her mind as she glanced at Sunless.

'Didn't he fail to awaken as a martial warrior? How is he already a martial warrior???'

She was filled with curiosity but didn't voice her suspicions.

Jane, on the other hand, glanced at her and shrugged.

She didn't want to be disrespectful to her brother, but since he wasn't a martial warrior, he couldn't change much.

On the other hand… she…

Feeling the pressure of a rank 1 martial warrior, she was filled with confidence that she would be able to handle the old man.

Gordon Street was a long walk from where they were, and because of that, the group just hailed a cab to head over there.

The ride lasted for more than ten minutes before the car came to a stop at what seemed to be an extremely crowded street.

Jane was the first to get down, and the moment she did, she glanced around suspiciously.

Sunless came down next after her and noted the crowded street filled with houses.

The houses were so tightly packed that, for a moment, he wondered how the people were able to coexist here at all.

Unlike the bustling street they were from, this place was a stark contrast.

In fact, compared to the lives Sunless and his sister lived, this place seemed far worse off.

Of course, all this was because Sunless was always hardworking, making sure his sister never lacked anything.

Sonia alighted last and glanced around with an irritated expression.

Just the place alone was enough to send a creeping tingle down her skin, and she didn't like the sensation at all.

"By this time, the old man should be on the road, hawking the few things he has…" Jane said, causing Sunless to nod.

"Do you have a description of him?" Sunless asked thoughtfully.

Jane glanced at Sunless, then shrugged. "Once I catch sight of him, I will be able to recognise him immediately."

Sunless fell speechless but simply nodded in agreement as well.

Still, as her big brother, he was ready to protect her at any moment.

He glanced around, and a smile touched his lips when he noticed something that looked like a metal rod not too far away.

He walked over lightly and picked it up.

Weighing it, he felt that it was to his taste.

Seeing the metal rod in Sunless' hands, Sonia's lips twitched repeatedly, and images of what had happened the day before surged through her mind like a tide.

She glanced at Sunless, then lowered her gaze silently.

She could tell that this was for their protection…

'Still, killing people like that without a care…' she felt slightly reluctant.

Knowing Sunless wouldn't listen to her, she decided not to think about it anymore.

Sunless glanced at her and nodded, causing her lips to twitch once more.

Jane watched the exchange between the two and was momentarily astounded.

'Is there something I'm unaware of?'

Despite being curious, she shoved it to the back of her mind and said to her brother…

"Come, I'll lead the way."

Sunless nodded and motioned for her to continue.

With that, the three, clad completely in creepy masks that made them look like thieves, walked through the streets like thugs.

Along the way, they encountered a few civilians, but upon seeing the three with black masks, especially Sunless who held a huge metal rod similar to a baseball bat in his hand, they hastily retreated for fear of being robbed.

Sonia rubbed her head in frustration just as the last person ran away.

She turned to the siblings and noticed that they didn't seem to care much about what the others thought.

'They are so similar in that…' Shaking her head with a sigh, she could only follow them.

Finally, Jane's eyes lit up, and she turned to Sunless with a small nod.

Sunless' eyes immediately sharpened as he noticed an old man in a woodworking shop. The old man sold all kinds of things, ranging from iron scraps to other metals.

Sunless glanced at the old man and held his gaze for a few seconds, noting the kind expression plastered across his face.

'The kindest ones are the ones not to be trusted the most!' he thought silently as he noticed his sister increase her pace.

In the blink of an eye, Jane caught up to him.

In his shop, the old man glanced up at them suspiciously.

"What do you wish to buy, young fellows?" he eyed them. Although he spoke kindly, seeing the masks on their faces, he was already revolving his internal energy.

Jane glanced at the old man and sneered.

Then, without wasting a second to speak, she attacked. Her frail, slender body made a graceful arc through the air that neither Sunless, Sonia, nor the old man could keep up with.

In an instant, the sound of skull shattering echoed, and Sunless watched in terror as the man's head vanished right before his eyes.

Shocked, he quickly looked at the old man, noticing blood spurting from his neck in fountains, splashing onto the materials around the shop.

Bang!

The man's corpse crashed heavily onto the ground, and Jane took out a rag to wipe her hand.

Sunless was left in utter astonishment as he stared at his sister.

'So strong…' he whispered in his heart.

Noticing the bubbles on the ground, Sunless pretended to pace around the shop casually and picked them up.

They were numerous, as they seemed to have been dropped by Jane and the old man.

After picking up all ten bubbles, Sunless didn't just enter the Entry stage but also the Adept stage of the physique-type profession.

He felt an astonishing amount of strength flowing through his limbs.

And subconsciously, the iron rod in Sunless' hand felt light.

In fact, he could vaguely feel that his strength now rivalled what his sister had displayed, and probably even surpassed it!

'Damn… it's so easy to get stronger?'
