Cassy frowned as she thought about how Elena could be having a nice time with Lucien's son as his lawfully wedded wife, while she... she was still waiting for Harris to man up enough to propose marriage to her.
The bitterness was one reason why she had suggested paying them a visit, the other reason was to really see what the man looked like, if he really matched the dashing description of her father.
With Juliet joining her to cajole her father, she managed to persuade him into agreeing to go.
She also calculated that, if he was as her father had said, then she would surely be able to convince him to divorce Elena so that he would marry her instead, afterall no man could stand her soft dazzling seductive moves.
Edward called Lucien since he didn't have Jason's number, when the man picked up, he said the lies, words for words and line for lines just as his wife had asked him to say.
Lucien checked in with Jason first,Jason had agreed to them visiting, before he sent him the address, as well as telling him that Jason would only be free the next day, so they had the go the next day for dinner.
Edward told his wife and daughter, both of them were elated, they hadn't expected their visit to be so soon, A minute later, the mother and daughter pair started running around, searching for outfits for themselves.
The next day, the two women dressed up very expensively, ready to impress someone else's husband.
Two hours later, they arrived in Jason's Penthouse because they had stopped by a shopping mall to get some gifts for the in-law.
When they arrived, A guard ushered them to the living room. He was the only one Elena had seen with Jason, she hadn't even met his personal assistant. They sat down looking around at the cold yet beautiful house.
Soon, Elena came down the stairs to welcome them as the hostess.
She was dressedin an elegant yet very simple white dress making her look very young and petite. Aunty Annette stood beside them waiting for any messages.
Cassy stared at her with jealousy, Elena smirked, she haven't seen Jason yet and she was already this jealous? She shook her head as she approached them, not bothering to fake a smile.
"Father....., aunt Juliet, Cassy, welcome" She welcomed.
"Elena..my dear child.." her father called out in unusual soft tone. Elena resisted the urge to massage her forehead as she felt her head begsan to ache.
"What is it this time.. again?" She had grown to see him as a very cunning man whose actions were always for a purpose that would only benefit him. But somehow, she seemed to have seen a pained expression on his face, one which only lasted for half a minute.
"What do you mean..? you know that dad is very pleased with you, you're the only reason why dad's company is still functioning." He maintained a soft tone.
Elena shook her head.
"Indeed... You can say I helped you save a company which I have never stepped my legs on, one which you intend to hand over to Cassy here, once she is married." She wore a smile filled with mockery.
Edward was speechless, Juliet sneered while Cassy continued to look upstairs, waiting eagerly for someone.
"It'd alright, Elena said in a ladylike manner, what would you like to drink while you wait
Jason to round up with his conference call."
Finally, Cassy looked at her.
"I want Mimosa" She said like a princess ordering a maid. Edward and Juliet both settled for warm mineral water. Elena decided to let cassy's spoilt behaviour slide this time around.
Elena smiled, half looking at Cassy.
"I'm really really sorry, you know we're newly weds, so we let the other maids off, aunt Annette's is the only one around, because she's very discreet and hardworking." She explained because she noticed some doubts in the mother and daughter's eyes as they stared around. Not that it mattered to her anyways.
Aunty Annette looked at her in shock, but she managed to keep her stern expression. She then went to the kitchen to get what they had asked for.
Cassy hissed, turning her face away as her eyes reddened with anger and jealousy.
Juliet smiled as she looked around the house.
"Elena dear, how is your husband treating you, and how're you adjusting to your new life?"
Elena shook her head as one word appeared in her head, "Hippocrate!
"I'm fine, he really takes good care of me, and I'm adjusting very fast, afterall, someone who had managed to live in the same house with you for so long can leave and adjust well with anybody.." sarcasm was rich in her voice. Juliet's face became bitter as anger was visible on it.
Just then, Annette arrived with a classic looking tray containing a glass filled with mimosa and two bottles of mineral water.
Juliet kept quiet, fuming angrily.
While they sipped the water and Cassy the mimosa, they heard not too loud but firm footsteps coming down from the stairs.
Cassy was the first to raise up her head. She eagerly wanted to see his face to configure if she had made any mistake, but unfortunately, the man she saw was a devastatingly handsome, manly and able man without any disability.
The family of three stood up, each having different thoughts as they looked at the man who had just walked down the stairs.
"Father Edward, Mrs Wilson." Jason nodded in acknowledgements, as he walked past Cassy, he didn't even look at her or acknowledge her.
The couple's greeted him politely.
From what Jason had learnt, this family wasn't on a really good term with his wife. He knew that he hadn't been treating her very well, so at least he could help her this once.
They all sat down.
"I'm sorry for just joining you now, I was on a conference call, you know how demanding running a company can be." He turned around and caught cassy's eyes checking him up, surprise in her eyes. He was already tired of speaking so much within five minutes, so he turned his eyes away as if he hadn't noticed.
"It's okay, we have not waited for that long." Juliet spoke up. Elena looked at the family as if she was watching something very interesting.
Soon Annette came to inform them that dinner was ready, so they stood up in unison and walked to the dinning area led by aunt Annette.
Elena followed quietly behind Jason making small quiet steps.
The group sat down to dinner. The table was set with fine china and crystal, the atmosphere refined and sophisticated. Jason, exuding confidence and a hint of aloofness, poured a glass of 2005 Château Lafite Rothschild for everyone, the rich aroma of the Bordeaux filling the air.
"Shall we begin?" he said, his tone polite but lacking warmth, as the first course was served: Seared Scallops with a truffle and champagne risotto, garnished with edible gold Juliet always the proper woman, was very much impressed, she complimented the presentation, and Jason replied, "Just a little something we whipped up," his expression unreadable.
Cassy, was struck by Jason's cool demeanor – he seemed perfectly in control, but a bit... distant, she liked him already. She wondered if he was always like this or if he was just being formal. The conversation flowed, with Jason participating when necessary, but his interactions with Elena were polite and minimal.
The main course was Japanese Wagyu beef tenderloin, served tableside with a reduction of 20-year-old balsamic vinegar and a side of truffle-infused macaroni au gratin. Jason was also pleased with the execution. He wanted the family to leave as soon as possible.
As they indulged in the Grand Marnier crème brûlée for dessert, Edward turned to her and said, "You've done well, darling – Jason is a perfect host." Elena forced a smile, but Jason's expression didn't change, his eyes lingering on his wine glass.
The evening wrapped up with petit fours and espresso, served in the living room, where they chatted a bit longer.
Cassy was frowning bitterly, Elena decided to tease her bit.
"Hey... Cass.... Why are you so bitter today? hope you didn't break up with that fool, Harris." As she spoke, everyone turned their eyes to the two of them. Cassy gritted her teeth. " What's it, Elena? Why would i break up with Harris, are you planning on getting back together with him?"
Elena laughed.. Jason was also surprised at the sound of her laughter.
