Chapter 36 - Her game

The next day, Elena woke up very late, the sun was already up and shinning brightly.

She yawned lazily before looking at the bedside clock. She yelped as she got up.

She searched for her phone. When she switched it in, she saw that she had more than twenty miss calls, ten from Adam, five from Aisha and the from Celia.

Elena ran into the bathroom. She took a quick bath, dressed smartly before going down for breakfast.

Jason was working downstairs while sipping coffee.

He raised his head up as he noticed that she seemed to be walking in a hurry, especially as she climbed down the stairs.

He assessed her from head to toe, it was at that point that he realised that she was always dressed professionally as if going to work or something of the sort.

She hopped past him into the kitchen as if she didn't see him, or maybe she really didn't.

He dropped the cup leisurely on the table, eyes scanning and at the same time calculating her movements.

She ran out of the kitchen munching on a toast, she also held a coffee mug, she was about to walk past him when she noticed something amiss. She halted in her step.

Elena turned around. Her husband was looking at her with very keen eyes. She choked, coughing aggressively on the toast.

"Why... Sorry....why are you.... ?" She was almost in tears as she continued talking.

"Go get yourself a cup of water." He advised coldly.

Elena ran back into the kitchen cursing herself for her I'll luck that morning. She drank some water before she managed to calm down. She heaved a sigh of relief.

"What to do next? She asked herself, where would she tell him she was off to that morning?.

She walked slowly out of the kitchen, a complete contrast to how she did earlier.

He raised his eyebrows, looking at her as she seemed to be caught in a dilemma.

He decided to have a short conversation with her, that was already him going out of his way.

"Come here...." He urged her to go nearer.

She moved a step them paused.

"Come on, I won't bite." He sounded more cold than the words he said.

She moved nearer, she didn't know why, but she was somehow scared of him. He looked at her, feeling quite satisfied that he could get her to obey his words.

"Where are you off to?." He asked going back to check some emails.

"I... Want to ....go shopping." She stammered.

Yes, shopping, like every other women. But despite this, he couldn't bring himself to believe the words she said.

"Since you're now my wife..." The word 'wife' sounded stale on his lips.

He continued. "Since you're my wife... You should be very careful when you go out, I'll ask one of the bodyguards to go with you."

Two could play the game she was playing. He smirked. Despite the report from his personal investigator, he wanted to know if she was really what she thought, Not that it mattered, but he needed to know!

Elena was striked dumb. What to do?

She felt like giving him a good beating, looking at his physic, she decided against it.

She felt like throwing a tantrum but she decided against it, their relationship hadn't progressed to that level, she wasn't even sure if it would ever.

She glared angrily at him. How could he bully her ?

She wore a fake smile." That would've been nice, but I've grown up taking care of myself all alone, I wouldn't be comfortable with someone following me from behind."

He nodded his head calmly as if saying, "fair enough" but then he spoke up. "The bodyguard will be as discreet as possible, you wouldn't feel a thing, you should be happy I'm having this conversation with you." He really left no room for negotiation.

Elena's phone rang at that morning. She looked at the phone. It wasr Lucien, her father in-law. "Dad is calling." She said to him before walking past him to she answer the call.

Lucien soft voice spoke at the other end softly. "My dear, why haven't you come to visit dad for so long? Did that brat lock you up?" He sounded very bitter.

Elena peeked at the son who was unaware that his father was blaming him for something he didn't do.

She decided to change her destination that morning, she was ninety nine percent sure Adam would be able to handle everything back at the company.
