Chapter 33 - letting her guards down

Elena was dumbfounded as she looked at Cassy. But she retained a mocking smile.

"I wonder whom you took after, is it dad? No..... It must be the most proper woman in the university, you're a fool!" She stood up immediately, feeling some grievances she felt provoking them was only right.

By now her parent's faces was as black as pot. She grinned. "Don't worry aunt, I won't steal your daughter's boyfriend, in already married, you should ask her instead to take her eyes off of my husband, before i rip it out." Elena threw a challenging look at her stepmother.

Jason looked at her, she was a very brave girl, no....maybe she was very sure they wouldn't dare do anything to her. She seemed more misterious to him.

Elena looked at the man that was married to her only on names. She smiled impish like at him. "Sweetheart, please see out guest out, I'm so tired." She massaged her forehead.

Jason decided to play along, mostly because he was completely tired with the seductive glances Cassy had been throwing at her was very irritating.

"Hmm...," He nodded in agreement as she walked up the stairs elegantly

After seeing the Wilsons of, Jason walked back to his room.

He wondered about the huge rift between Elena and her family, what could have caused it? Was it because they didn't treat her right or was it something else?

The next day, Elena left the house as early as five AM, even before Jason left just as she normally did.

He knew when she left the house, he only told his men to be on high alert.

He wanted to know the things she did in secret.

After the brief argument the previous night, Elena received a call from Adam.

They had finally gotten a new contract, it's was a contract which they thought they have already lost, so,no preparation was made.

Since no preparation was made, how could she not leave the house very early? She needed some documents and she also had to attend a meeting in another city that morning. She had no idea someone was trailing behind her because she was very much in a hurry, perhaps that was the reason she let her guards down.

As soon as she arrived, Elena saw that Adam was waiting for her at the private parking lot with some files.Adam quickly briefed Elena as he rushed in to the car. "Okay, so the investors want to discuss expanding Elwave's services in the Northeast. They're looking at a potential $5 million investment for a 20% stake."

Elena nodded, eyes on her phone. "What's the valuation?"

Adam checked his notes. "They're valuing Elwave at $25 million pre-money. We need to push for at least $30 million."

Elena glanced up. "Got it. And what's the agenda for the meeting?"

Adam handed her a folder. "They want to discuss partnerships with local tech hubs in Jersey City and possible government grants. Oh, and they mentioned wanting to meet the person behind Elwave."

Elena smiled slightly. "Let them be surprised .What's the plan for the server issue back in Ridgewood?"

Adam's phone buzzed. "Benson's got it under control. Should be fixed soon."

Elena nodded. "Good. Let's focus on the meeting."

Elena drove the car out with a lot of speed to the airport.

Elena's rushed through Newark Liberty, phone buzzing with emails as she navigates the crowded terminal. Adam's keeping pace beside her, juggling her laptop bag and a stack of meeting notes. The sounds of announcements and chatter fill the air, but she's laser-focused. Her sleek black heels click on the tile floor, echoing her urgency.

"Adam, what's the status on the Marshalls' RFP?" she asks, not looking up from her phone. The Marshalls are a big deal – a tech conglomerate looking to expand into the Caribbean, and Elena's company, Elwave digital tech, was gunning to be their partner.

Adam checks his tablet, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Sent it to the team. They're crunching numbers. I pushed them for a prelim proposal – should have it by the time we land in Jamaica."

Elena nodded, typing away on her phone with her thumbs flying. "Good. Let's get it back to them ASAP. We need this deal to push into the Caribbean market."Elwave digital tech's been eyeing this expansion for months, and she wouldn't let it slip.

Adam nods, making a note on his pad. "Also, the team synced up with the Kingston office. They're prepped for the meeting tonight. I've got the client's tech specs and pain points right here." He tapped his tablet.

Elena glanced up, a hint of a smile on her lips. "Perfect. Review the notes on the flight. We need to crush this." Her eyes flickered back to her phone as she firesd off another email.

As they approached security, Adam asks, "Want me to grab you a coffee before boarding?"

Elena checked her watch – 8:20 AM – and calculates the time. "Yeah, grab a black coffee. We board in 45." Her voice, smooth, commanding, no room for small talk.

Their eyes met – business as usual – before Adam nodded and sped off to grab the coffee. Elena took a breath, scanning the terminal. Players in the tech game don't sleep, and neither did she.

Adam hurried back with the coffee, handing it over as they join the security line. "Boss, got your coffee."

Elena took it, a quick thanks, and they pushed through security. The Jamaica meeting's gonna be huge.
