Chapter 31 - A great fighter

Adam nodded.

"Of course, I've already been given the document for the contract, you just have to sign the contract after going through it."

Elena smiled happily.

"Wow... After this, we'll be able to fully create a well established branch in New York!!"

Elena happily collected the documents from him, she then went into her office so she could sit down and go through the documents.

It was already getting when she finally went through each and every word on the contract.

She was about to hand the signed contract to Adam when she received a call from Lucien.

She picked up immediately.

"Father.."

"Hmmm, my dear child, how are you?" His voice was unusually soft.

"I'm okay, father, what about you?" She yawned lazily, resting her back on the chair.

"I'm okay, where are you? Annette informed me that you're not at home, and when I called your father, he said he hadn't seen you after the wedding." He felt his heart ache as he spoke.

It was at that moment that she realised that she didn't even have his number!!

It was going to be more difficult than she had thought. But she was a fighter.

She shook her head before answering him.

"I just went out for some errands, I wish go back immediately, since I'm already done."

"Okay.. okay, go back immediately, it's getting late." He urged her before hanging up when he was done reminding her that she could always turn to him whenever she was facing any difficulty.

Elena quickly went back to... Jason's penthouse.

When she arrived, the man was working and having dinner at the same time.

She paused in a dilemma, what was she going to do? Was she just going to walk past?

The man's head raised up, he looked at her briefly, before turning back to the laptop.

She walked past him to her room, she realised she was very hungry as she saw him eat.

She curled up on the bed. She would go down once she was sure he had gone out or into his room. She soon dozed off.

Jason looked at the girl as she walked to her room with faked confidence. He wondered where she had been, the driver had only informed him that she stopped at a fashion shop.

She was very misterious, he had done a thorough background check up on her, yet, there were still some loopholes in her file that still left him quite confused.

He decided to get someone to follow her wherever she went from the next day.

After dinner, Melinda called him. He was reluctant to pick the call at first, but the guilt he felt for her got the better of him. So he picked up.

"Hey..., Jason, how are you?" Her voice sounded soft and light like a feather.

"Good, you?" He lit up a cigarette.

"I'm..also good, I just miss you alot!" She said sadly. "When are you coming back?"

He frowned. How was he going to tell her?

Melinda almost choked when he didn't say anything, it must be very serious,Jason didn't like staying in new Jersey, he would have gone back to her had it not been something very serious.

"You don't need to come back, I can just come to you, I'm not really busy, anyways." She said.

Now how was he going to refute her?

"No need.. I'll be back soon." He assured her, Melinda wasn't sure why, but she felt like he wouldn't be keeping to his words this time around.

"Okay.. I love you... Take care of , you shouldn't overwork yourself, okay?"

"Hmm." He answered before she hung up.

After the call, he went to a bar.

Just as soon as he had walked out of the door, Elena came out of her room, she quickly tiptoed to the kitchen, she checked around and found some leftovers.

She sighed in, as she quickly scooped a spoonful of rice into her mouth, Elena heard footsteps, she turned around to find the house help, aunt Annette looking at her in shook.

The elderly woman wondered why the young woman was sneaking around her own home like a thief.

Elena went back to her room after she had has her fill.

A week quickly flew away, but Elena saw no glimpse of Jason, it felt like he had disappeared into thin air, he didn't go back to sleep at night, he didn't even call her.

Though she didn't like him, she has hoped they would cope just fine by trying to understand each other and living a life together while respecting each others.

Now that he wasn't around, Elena focused more on her work, she spent her days either in the company, the fashion store or at the orphanage.

Aunty Annette was the only one who seemed to care, she always had a sympathetic look whenever Elena went back to the house.

On Monday, Jason finally went back home, when he noticed that Elena wasn't at home, he wondered where she always went off to, he had asked someone to follow and monitor her, yet she always managed to disappear from his men at some point. He had no good opinion about her, he only felt she was a gold digger who had managed to coax his father into giving her part of his share so she could use it against him,(Jason).

It had already been more than a week since they had gotten married, he was very sure she was getting tired of their marriage, very soon she would realise that she would be gaining nothing by forcing him to marry her.

He went straight to his room after having dinner, and yet his new wife still hadn't returned. He shook his head as went upstairs to his room.

He stood by the window as he waited patiently for her for reasons he would better not probe into.

Soon, a car drove into the parking lot. He lit a cigarette. The figure of a tired woman came out of the car. She took her handbag, then she walked into the house.

Jason went into his study seeing that she had arrived safely.
