Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Hope for a Cure

The "Synaptic Encapsulation Syndrome" Luca mentioned in his question was precisely the condition his mother, Gina, was suffering from.

Now that he had Baymax, a robot with advanced medical data, he naturally wanted to find a cure.

This wasn't just to save the company or for his own future benefits.

It was also for the mother who had loved, cared for, and raised the original host since childhood.

For Gina, who, even in the face of danger and moments before falling into a coma, was still worried about and trying to protect him—this "stranger" who had taken over her son's body.

Luca looked at Baymax with complex emotions.

Fortunately.

After quickly searching its internal database, Baymax gave an answer.

"Synaptic Encapsulation Syndrome is caused by... (see Chapter 14)... Depending on the intensity of the energy pulse received, the patient's nerves become encased in cocoon-like mutated proteins."

"It is recommended to use magnetically driven nanobots for targeted removal surgery. This can rapidly excise and destroy the cocooned protein layer, restoring the patient's nerve signals."

Luca, who had only heard the first half, started to relax his brow, but as Baymax finished, he frowned again.

"Magnetically driven nanobots? Baymax, do you possess this treatment capability?"

(●—●)

"Given a Nanotech Medical Pod or nanobot solution combined with a Targeted Magnetic Navigation Device, I possess the necessary operational skills."

Luca's face fell instantly.

Without even thinking, he knew those were medical devices from Baymax's world.

In his current world, maybe the "Cradle" that would create Vision in the future might be somewhat related.

But that device seemed more focused on using nanotechnology to repair physical trauma. Whether it could achieve the effect Baymax described was unknown.

Still unwilling to give up, Luca pressed on.

"Does your database contain the manufacturing data for these two devices?"

"Aside from the manufacturing process for Baymax units, the database does not contain information related to the manufacturing of other medical equipment."

Luca shook his head helplessly.

However, the fact that Baymax's database contained its own manufacturing process was good news.

At least Luca might be able to replicate similar products using this data later.

That said, this basic version of Baymax was technically inferior to the combat-upgraded version modified by Hiro Hamada.

The combat Baymax's unscientific flight control system, thrusters, enhanced scanners, and other gear were basically black tech.

The standard Baymax only had high-capacity lithium batteries, a high-output flexible exoskeleton, wide-range precision scanners, an evolvable AI with an emotion module, and over ten thousand advanced medical procedures...

Uh, actually, the standard Baymax is already ridiculous enough!

While Luca's mind wandered...

Perhaps sensing his disappointment, Baymax tilted its head and spoke again.

"In the absence of treatment equipment, targeted protein-devouring medication can be chosen for adjunctive therapy. Continuous administration can slowly remove the cocooned proteins. Recovery time depends on the patient's condition."

Luca was initially delighted, but recalling Baymax's previous answer, he reined in his expression and asked uncertainly:

"Can you make this targeted medication?"

(●—●)

"Relevant targeted medications can be purchased at designated pharmacies."

As it spoke, the projection screen on Baymax's chest lit up again, listing a long row of pharmacy names and addresses.

However, seeing that the first few all started with "San Fransokyo...", the excitement Luca had just felt deflated instantly.

"...Can you say something useful?"

Unexpectedly, as soon as he said this, the image on the screen changed again.

It clearly displayed the name "Targeted Drug for Synaptic Encapsulation Syndrome," followed by a long chemical bond diagram and the proportions of several other chemical components.

"This works too!!"

"Do you have the preparation process for this drug?!" Luca asked.

"Preparation process not found in database."

Hearing this, although Luca was somewhat disappointed, he wasn't discouraged.

With the chemical structure and proportions of the drug, he at least saw a glimmer of light.

As long as he had a laboratory in the relevant field cooperating with the research, there was a high probability of producing this drug.

In fact, existing technology might already be capable of creating similar drugs.

The issue was that, firstly, this disease was extremely rare before, so without sufficient demand, mature large laboratories wouldn't actively research such specialized drugs.

Now with a clear direction, both the difficulty and the production process would be greatly simplified. As long as enough funds were invested, successfully producing it wouldn't be too complicated.

After all, Luca didn't need mass industrial production to sell for profit.

If it was just laboratory preparation, it would merely be a matter of cost.

"Thanks a lot, Baymax!"

Having his emotions toyed with back and forth by this chubby white robot, Luca finally relaxed and hugged its soft body without reservation.

Yep, really feels like a marshmallow.

Feeling the hug, Baymax instinctively wrapped its arms around Luca, completely enveloping him in its bouncy body.

"Detected that your neurotransmitter levels are steadily rising, and hormone secretion is stabilizing. Diagnosis: Anxiety symptoms alleviated."

Luca paused slightly upon hearing Baymax's voice report.

He recalled that Baymax had indeed "diagnosed" him with mild anxiety earlier.

But then, Luca just laughed it off.

Even though he considered his mentality and resilience to be above average...

Transmigration, combat, the company, and threats to his life—with all these troubles piling up, only having "mild anxiety" was actually pretty good.

After hugging Baymax tightly again, Luca gently pulled away and smiled at the robot.

"At a time like this, don't spoil the mood with diagnostic results~"

"This point has been recorded in the care matrix. Treatment confirmed complete. If you wish for me to enter sleep mode, you need to say 'I am satisfied with your care'."

Looking at the big guy's rigid adherence to protocol, Luca smiled helplessly and shook his head.

Looks like the dialogue and emotion modules will need a lot of training later.

Thinking this, Luca decided not to say the "sleep phrase." Instead, he let Baymax stay active to keep him company.

"I will stay by your side at all times."

Receiving the command, Baymax stood motionless on the spot. In its understanding, this counted as companionship.

Sure enough, its behavior patterns are still a bit stiff.

Hmm, the activation and deactivation commands also need some adjustments.

But first I need to see how complex Baymax's core programming is. If it's too difficult, modifying it will be a pain.
