Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: The Zeroth Law

Locking his gaze firmly on the high-tech red box sitting squarely on the floor, Luca stepped forward with anticipation and knocked lightly on the casing.

Knock knock knock~

"Huh? No reaction?"

"Though the case does seem to be made of carbon fiber."

He fiddled with it, turning it this way and that. He even pressed the prominent circular chip slot, ejecting [Baymax]'s mainboard chip, but the robot showed no sign of activating.

After reinserting the chip, Luca searched his memory for the plot of Big Hero 6, then hesitantly called out tentatively.

"Ouch~ It hurts~"

Even though it was clearly a fake cry of pain, the red box, which had been silent, suddenly reacted. The circular light strip around the chip slot lit up, accompanied by a faint beep-beep alarm sound.

Immediately after, the red storage case unfolded rapidly.

The white "filling" inside inflated quickly like a balloon.

Within moments, an inflatable robot resembling the Michelin Man stood atop the open storage case.

The chubby white robot first looked down at its surroundings, then blinked its eyes in confusion before taking small, shuffling steps out of the case and toward Luca.

However, the living room of the villa was currently a mess, piled high with packages. Even Baymax's path was blocked by clutter.

The chubby inflatable robot wasn't in a hurry. It slowly began a repetitive process.

Look down.

Bend over.

Move object.

Shuffle forward.

This guy was actually planning to move every single obstacle aside, one by one.

Watching this, Luca, who had been full of anticipation, felt his patience shatter.

He rushed over and frantically shoved the clutter aside for it. Only then did the inflatable robot stop and look at him again.

The robot raised its right hand, which had only four fingers, and a gentle but slightly robotic electronic voice resonated from within its body.

"Hello. I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion."

Seeing Baymax finally working properly, Luca let out a long sigh of relief.

But Baymax's next sentence froze him in place.

"Hello, Luca."

"Huh??? You know my name??"

Luca was full of question marks.

Although the synthesis panel mentioned Baymax had "over ten thousand medical procedures in its database"...

This implied the synthesized robot possessed all the information loaded by the original creator, Tadashi Hamada, and possibly even some original video recordings aside from the AI program.

But regardless, Luca's name shouldn't be in Baymax's database.

Even with the [Dominator] pistol earlier, he had to go through basic voice print and fingerprint registration after synthesis to bind user permissions.

However, hearing Luca's question, Baymax tilted its head slightly, looking at him with confusion.

(●—●)

"Yes, I know your name, Luca von Aurantius. I noticed you were in need of medical attention when you said 'Ouch'."

"Wait, wait!"

Interrupting Baymax's somewhat robotic explanation, Luca pressed his previous question.

"Why do you know my name??"

(●—●)

"According to the Zeroth Law, Luca von Aurantius is designated as the highest authority. I must fully obey all commands from the highest authority," Baymax answered quickly after blinking its black camera eyes twice.

"The Zeroth Law? Does that mean there are also a First and Second Law?" Luca asked immediately.

"The only extra-procedural law is the Zeroth Law, which takes precedence over everything. The First Procedural Law states that a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm..."

Baymax continued reciting, but Luca had already fallen into deep thought.

Extra-procedural law? And it specifically names me as the highest authority?

Even thinking with his toes, Luca knew this was definitely his cheat at work.

Actually, when he obtained the [Baymax] Core Component, Luca had similar worries.

The items he synthesized before, even the [Dominator] with its smart chip, only had simple functions like scanning, answering, and identity verification. This synthesized [Baymax] was the first advanced AI with autonomous evolution and emotional modules.

For high-tech creations with advanced AI, like the Red Queen from Resident Evil or the T-800 from Terminator, if loyalty couldn't be guaranteed, getting killed by his own creation would be a massive joke.

The reason Luca dared to synthesize [Baymax] directly was that this version was just a medical robot, so he didn't need to worry about betrayal.

But now it seemed his cheat had thoughtfully handled this issue for him.

However, this "Extra-Procedural Law" seemed like a double-edged sword to Luca.

The benefits were obvious.

This was the power of the cheat. Even if his AI's programming was tampered with by others, a single word from him would reclaim control. No one could take it away.

As for the downside...

"Extra-Procedural Law" meant that even Luca couldn't copy this code.

If he built replicas later through technical means instead of system synthesis, they probably wouldn't enjoy this "absolute loyalty" benefit.

Hmm, I'm getting a bit greedy. This situation is already the best outcome. I can be bolder when synthesizing intelligent items in the future.

Having received this excellent news, Luca snapped back to attention. By this time, Baymax had finished reciting all the fragmented "Laws" and resumed its previous task.

"Scan complete. No external injuries capable of causing pain detected."

"Fluctuations in your neurotransmitters and hormones detected. Diagnosis: Nervousness and mild anxiety. No treatment plan for similar conditions found in database. Database expansion required."

"Detected that your right forearm is missing below the elbow. Effective treatment has been administered, and a mechanical prosthetic is worn. Regular resistance training and muscle contraction exercises are recommended to ensure limb health."

As it spoke, Baymax's chest lit up, projecting a "Rehabilitation Exercise" video.

"Stop, stop, stop. I'll do that later when I have time."

Luca, completely missing Baymax's previous sentence about database expansion, waved his hands repeatedly. Only after Baymax stopped the projection did he ask his question again, his expression turning serious.

"I want to know, is there a treatment for 'Synaptic Encapsulation Syndrome' in your database?"
