Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: A new colleague

"Akari, isn't Inuyasha feeling very depressed?" Shippo asked. Akari stared at Inuyasha, noticing his confusion. She understood why—he was struggling with his feelings for Kikyou and his desire to become a full demon. To Akari, this reaction seemed perfectly natural.

Akari didn't want to be heartless by forcing Inuyasha to keep searching for the fragments. That was why she told him he could stay a few more days in the village. When he refused, Akari guessed it was because the village reminded him too much of his time with Kikyou—both the happy and painful memories. She realized he was still caught up in his own thoughts, unable to move on.

Because of this, she tried to delay their encounter with another important character, Miroku. However, it was not for long. One morning, Miroku appeared in front of them, trying to steal the fragments.

Akari did not resist when Miroku separated her from Inuyasha.

"Don't worry, I won't hurt you." Miroku said when they were far away from Inuyasha.

Akari laughed. "Of course, you don't."

"What?"Akari easily slipped out of his grip and kicked him.

Miroku avoided her and said. "Wow, the beautiful young lady is stronger than she looks."

"Yeah, I saw you last night spying on us." Miroku's face changed. He didn't think she had noticed him.

"So, were you waiting for me?" Akari nodded.

"Yes, I think we could cooperate. If we really fight, none of us would benefit from it." Miroku raised his eyebrow, curious.

"Why do you think so? Don't underestimate me." Akari chuckled and said.

"I don't." Akari pointed at his chest, saying. "You have three fragments of the pearl." Miroku's face was stunned.

"I can see the fragments. Even if you are a monk,"it would be difficult to find them just by intuition." Miroku thought about it. It wasn't a bad idea.

"What do you say?" Akari asked.

"Okay, I agree. But it will be only the two of us." Akari chuckled.

"I don't think so." Miroku didn't understand until he saw a sword attacking him.

"You! What do you think you are doing?" Inuyasha shouted.

Akari watched them fighting and didn't intervene until Miroku used his Wind Tunnel. Akari drew her sword and used it to separate them by purifying Inuyasha's energy and making Miroku recoil.

Miroku seemed surprised when he said. "The beautiful lady has incredible spiritual energy." Akari smiled and said.

"Thanks." Miroku quickly recovered his flirtatious attitude and said.

"Why didn't you say that you were a great priestess? We could have avoided this misunderstanding." Akari saw her clothes, and she accepted that she looked more like an assassin than a priestess. But in her defense, it wasn't her fault. Akari, in fact, preferred the priestess's clothes; they were comfortable.

"There are a few reasons why I don't look like a priestess." Akari could feel Inuyasha's gaze, but she ignored him.

"But this is not important, now. I want you to talk to us about the thing you have in your right hand." Miroku seemed confused, but he quickly started to tell Inuyasha and her about Naraku, the demon who cursed him and his family.

Akari saw Inuyasha's reaction, and he was very agitated. Inuyasha realized who was guilty, and he was anxious for revenge.

Akari looked at him and thought she couldn't let him be clouded by hatred, then she told him. "Stay calm, Inuyasha. I know how you are feeling. But we don't have a clue about him right now. But I think if we continue searching for the fragments. He will show himself sooner or later. He wanted the jewel before; I'm sure he wants it now, too.

Inuyasha clenched his teeth, but he finally calmed down.

They went in search of another fragment, and Miroku came to understand Inuyasha better. He, despite everything, found Inuyasha a good person, and he observed Akari's powers to purify the fragments. He decided to come with them.

Akari got along very well with him. Miroku was a funny guy, despite his perverted habits that always made her want to beat him up.

Miroku found that he got along well with Inuyasha and Akari. However, Miroku was curious about something.

"Akari, can I ask you something?" Akari nodded.

"How long have you been with Inuyasha?"

"A couple of months, why?"

"Because I wonder, what kind of relationship do you have with Inuyasha?" Akari took a moment to answer honestly.

"I will explain in a few words. Inuyasha had someone he really loved, but he is separated from her now. And I look similar to her. That's why I keep my distance from him." Miroku nodded, understanding the situation.

"Don't talk about it with him. He needs time to think." Miroku laughed and said.

"Got it. Although if you want to help him clarify his ideas, you can have a child with me."

Akari's lips tightened. "Shut up!"
