She sat down in her seat and sighed, Kala was running late as always, and Tundra was a new student, so they were figuring out his schedule. She was left alone with her thoughts for the first time in a couple of days.
It felt weird, being left alone with her thoughts again. A familiar yet distant feeling she couldn't seem to shake as she wondered if Tundra would be in any of her classes, the voices around her turning into background noise as she stared out of the poorly patched up window being held by super glue, some tape, and a dream.
She snapped out of it once the bell rang and the teacher started the lesson, only to be almost immediately interrupted by a staff member Hirune didn't bother to memorize the job of walking into the classroom with Tundra pulling the teacher aside to whisper something to her. The class fell into an awkward silence, some audible whispers about him flying about every so often as he stood there nearly as awkwardly as the class stared at him.
As the random staff member left the teacher called out to the class, "This is our new student Tundra, Tundra feel free to sit in any of those open seats."
Coincidently, there were empty seats all around Hirune, although her classmates didn't see her in the same light as everyone else, they still didn't want to be associated with her unless they had to for a group project. So, it came as a shock to everyone when they saw him walk over and sit on the desk to the left of hers. There were now two students in the left corner of the room near the window, and the corner suddenly felt a bit cozier.
Nothing really interesting happened during the first couple lessons, just Hirune sharing her previous notes with Tundra while trying her best to memorize all of the important parts of the current lesson to write them down later. A bit of occasional banter between them throwing off the flow of the class as before now Hirune seemed to lack any social skills, nevertheless the ability to make an acquaintance. It was now lunch time though and Tundra went down to the cafeteria to grab some lunch. Nearly everyone else stayed in the classroom eating their own food.
Suddenly, a group of girls walked up to Hirune and surrounded her, bombarding her with questions.
"So, how is he?"
"He's so hot right?"
"Do you two know each other?"
"Do you like him?"
"Why's he so friendly with you?"
"Why's he seems so interested in you and not any of us?"
As Hirune went to say that she didn't know they shut her up by cutting her off, "I mean, I guess you are really pretty," one of them said. "And your hairs also really well kept," another said. "She also smells good," another added.
Tundra suddenly came back. "Hey Hiru, I saw an ice cream stand outside and wanted to ask if you wanted some," Tundra called out from the doorway for the whole class to hear. The room went silent for a moment, before bursting into screaming and hollering.
"Yeah sure! De dulce de leche si ay!" She responded her voice barely audible over the classes freakout, which was mostly at what he called her. Yet he still managed to hear her and gave her a dumbs up as he went.
"So you two know each other?!" The girls started to bombard her again.
"Are you two close?"
"That was just a joke right?"
"Is there any signs that he's interested?"
"Are you interested?"
"Is he your boyfriend?"
'My what?' Hirune thought focusing on that last question, her face turning red as her blood softly boiled. She looked directly at the girl, "What! No! He's a friend I made at work! It's not like that!" She said freaking out and swatting her hand to try and cool her face down. The girls walked away giggling while saying sure as Tundra came back and walked over to her.
"You're a tomato!" He said with a laugh, "What happened?"
"Nothing," Hirune said as Tundra handed her the ice cream, she asked him for. She was surprised that he managed to get the flavor she asked for considering that it's been pretty hard to find recently. "They actually, had it?"
"Yeah, it was worth a little extra, but it was worth it," Tundra answered sitting down next to her, he had the same flavor as her.
Hirune looked at him eating it for a bit then turned to look out of the window as she ate her own, "Esta dificil que no me guste la idea de esa niña cuando me tratas tan bien." (Translation: "It's difficult for me not to like that girl's idea when you treat me so well.")
'Does she think I don't know Spanish? I'm pretty sure she knows I'm from Spaniaca by now, right? Just because I don't speak it often it doesn't mean I don't know it. The only reason I haven't said anything about her comment is because love is war and whoever confesses their love first loses, am I right Cuelebre?' Tundra thought in his head, to which, Cuelebre didn't answer due to his disappointment in the boy.
Hirune suddenly took a bite of his ice cream even though they had the same flavor, "Tastes good." She said calmly while this happened on the inside: 'What are you doing?!' 'I don't know!' 'Okay girl, calm down, it's fine this is totally fine- Hirune how dumb are you!' 'I already said I'm sorry! I don't know what came over me I just suddenly wanted to do that!' 'Girl- You could've just ruined any chances you had at getting with him-'
Namulenza was suddenly cut off by Tundra taking a bite of Hirune's ice cream and saying the same thing as her. 'Never mind you go girl you've got this! Woo!' 'Thank you, thank you!'
While this happened inside of Hirune's head, Tundra was still mostly paying attention to his surroundings, although he was also distracted by her, he still managed to spot a little shine from a knife within someone's pocket.
