Chapter 18 - Episode 17

Beacon Hills was quiet at night and just as unsettling. Streetlights flickered with a fragile glow as the wind howled through the trees. Somewhere in the distance, a dog barked, followed by… a howl. Long, deep, and threatening. It was as if the town itself was holding its breath.

Meanwhile, things were far from calm at Beacon Hills High School.

The classroom was dim. Moonlight filtered through the shattered windows, making the blood on the floor glisten.

Sean was leaning against the wall.

His shirt was soaked in blood. His shoulders were slumped, yet he was still standing. His breathing was slow, his eyes half-closed.

Allison spoke in a trembling voice "So… is this it? Are we going to die here?"

No one answered.

"Th-then… who did this?" she continued, her eyes shifting to Sean.

Scott took a step forward. His voice was uncertain, but there was anger in it "Derek did this."

Stiles lifted his head. "What? No.. Derek-"

"Who else could it be?" Scott snapped. "He was following us, he was everywhere.."

Lydia cut in sharply "It doesn't matter. Whoever did it, we can't stay here."

Jackson spoke up immediately "We should call the police."

A brief silence fell over the room.

"No."

Stiles's voice was sharp and firm.

Jackson turned to him "What do you mean, no?"

"I said no!" Stiles's voice cracked, but he didn't back down 'If the police come… everything falls apart.'

Scott stepped closer to him "Stiles, this is insane. Someone is dead. We're hurt. Sean—"

"I can't call my dad here!" Stiles exploded "I can't bring him into this!"

Just as Scott was about to say something..

BANG!

The door shook.

The wall trembled. Dust rained down from the ceiling.

Another one

BANG!

Allison screamed. Lydia stepped back. Jackson cursed.

From behind the door came a deep growl.

Sean had been silent until then.

Slowly, he straightened up.

Everyone looked at him.

Sean's voice was low, but resolute "I'll draw him to me somehow."

Scott shook his head "No. No, you can't do this."

Sean looked at him. His eyes were tired, but clear "I'm already injured."

The door shook once more.

"The moment I open the door, you run," Sean continued. "He'll follow me. Or he'll look for me."

Stiles shook his head "Sean, this is madness.."

"Don't stop until you reach the exit," Sean said. "Get in the car and get out of here."

Scott's voice trembled "What if he catches you?"

Sean smiled faintly "He already is."

Silence fell.

At last, Scott lowered his head "…Okay."

Stiles stepped forward and hugged Sean. It was tight, hurried "Be careful, man."

Sean returned the hug "You too."

From behind the door, a howl rose.

Sean turned toward the door.

When the Alpha slammed into the door once more, the classroom shook. Dust fell from the walls as Sean lifted his head "Now," he said in a low voice.

Before the door even broke, they all moved at the same time. Scott, Stiles, Allison, Lydia, and Jackson burst through the back door and ran toward the upper floor. Their footsteps echoed through the corridor as Sean deliberately slowed down, putting distance between himself and them.

When he started running, blood streamed from his back, leaving a thin trail across the floor. With every step, that trail stretched farther, drawing a dark path through the school corridors. He heard the sound of claws behind him heavy, rhythmic, and accelerating.

The Alpha was closing in.

Sean clenched his teeth and pushed himself faster. His eyes turned golden yellow, and his body barely seemed to touch the ground anymore. As he ran, he muttered to himself,"Let's see how durable a werewolf's body really is."

He didn't hesitate when a closed door appeared in front of him. He smashed through it with his shoulder, ripping it from its hinges. When he entered, he found himself in a vast gymnasium. High-ceilinged, dark, and silent.

And at its center…

A hanging body.

The janitor's lifeless form swayed slightly. Sean's gaze instinctively dropped, and he noticed the key hanging from the man's pants. His eyes narrowed."A fire exit key…" he murmured. "If I take this to Scott and the others, they can escape through the fire stairs."

The moment he pulled the key free, a deep growl rose behind him.

Sean slowly turned around.

What stood before him was a massive wolf. A black-furred werewolf standing on two legs, its muscles pronounced, its eyes glowing a vivid crimson.

For a brief moment, an instinctive fear surged through Sean. The primal terror a beta feels in the presence of an alpha. But it lasted only a second.

The fear vanished.

Another thought replaced it.

"As a matter of fact…" he thought, "if I kill him… I can take the alpha spark, can't I?"

A slow, demonic grin spread across his lips. It was a bloodthirsty, unsettling expression—so much so that the Alpha hesitated for a moment, staring at Sean in confusion.

Then they both moved at the same time.

The Alpha lunged forward with a roar. Sean charged toward him as well. Just as their claws were about to collide, Sean slid with a sudden burst of momentum, attempting to slip behind the Alpha.

But he was too slow.

With an agile motion, the Alpha caught Sean by the back of the neck and hurled him into the wall.

The wall cracked.

Before hitting the ground, Sean kept his darkened eyes fixed on the Alpha.

It was dark. There was a strange shadow band covering his golden-yellow eyes.

The Alpha approached him and looked down at him with a contemptuous expression. Then he raised his claw. As it moved toward Sean's neck, Sean smiled and looked at him.

"Hey… you're going to kill me anyway, right? Then can you answer something that's been on my mind? Arghh!!"

He screamed in pain as the claw struck his abdomen.

At the last moment, the Alpha twisted his claw and tore into Sean's stomach. Then he stared at him in silence.

Sean spoke."Everyone has it, but no one can lose it. What is it?"

He asked the question and waited.

The Alpha paused for a moment, as if thinking, What is he talking about? But when he noticed the demonic grin on Sean's face, he sensed that something was wrong and took a few steps back. At that moment, a shadow burst out of the wound in Sean's stomach. A pitch-black spike flashed past his eyes.

Then another spike struck his face, carving a line beneath his eye. It hadn't caused serious damage. The attack had very little effect on him, but it was enough to stun him.

Snarling, the Alpha turned his head and was about to strike Sean again—only to realize he was no longer there. With a mix of rage and mockery, he let out a howl.

Sean was already moving, crashing from side to side as he ran through the narrow corridor. Pitch-black blood dripped from the corner of his mouth onto the floor. His eyes had returned to their normal color.

Hearing the howl had given him strength as a werewolf, but his body couldn't withstand it. The move he had forced beyond his limits had distracted the Alpha, but when he sent the shadow through his organs and released it as an external attack, the backlash of that attack had damaged his own organs.

His body also seemed to be crying out from the power he had used. As his legs gave way, he stumbled into the locker room and slowly slid down the wall into a seated position. Through the locker room window, he looked up at the moon outside. It was as if watching the moon was giving him strength.

As his eyes closed, he looked at it with a faint smile on his face. And as he slowly collapsed to the floor, he heard distant, familiar voices…
