A few days later…Ding. Ding. Ding.
Scott jolted awake at the sound of his phone. He had no idea how long he'd been asleep. He reached under his pillow and pulled out his new phone.
Stiles was calling.
He answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Scott." Stiles's voice was more serious than usual. "Any news? I mean… about Sean?"
The moment Sean's name was mentioned, Scott felt his throat tighten.
"No," he said after a brief pause. "Nothing."
A deep sigh came through the phone.
"I figured…" Stiles hesitated. "Also, don't forget Allison's necklace. You need to talk to her today."
"I know," Scott said quietly. "I will."
The call ended.
Scott lay back down, staring at the ceiling as his thoughts began to spiral.
Where was Sean?
He'd vanished after the full moon. He hadn't come home for days. Their mother could barely sleep anymore. They'd spoken to Sheriff Noah countless times, but there were still no answers.
Scott was deeply worried about his brother but he had no clue where Sean might be.
The truth, however, was far different than they imagined.
Sean had gone into hiding.
After the full moon, his body had changed permanently. His facial features had sharpened, his muscles had grown denser stronger.
He sat on the roof of the Hale house, watching the sunrise. For days, he had fed his unending bloodlust by hunting down rogue hunters. After the full moon, his life had begun drifting into darkness. He knew it but he didn't fight it. He simply let it happen.
As his eyes followed the rising sun, Sean reflected on the past few days.
After helping the Argents, he'd continued killing stray hunters in the forest. It felt instinctive. Even though he could control his body, his emotions were tangled unruly. As if they no longer fully belonged to him.
After days of slaughter, he felt like he had regained some control. But whenever he looked at himself in the mirror, the memories returned the mockery, the cruel amusement he'd felt during the massacre.
The untamed beast inside him still lingered behind his eyes.
It was there.
Just silent.
Time passed. Afternoon settled in.
Sean noticed a familiar figure approaching the house. She was jogging then suddenly changed direction.
Allison.
She reached the house and went inside. Moments later, Kate Argent stepped out from behind the tree she'd been hiding behind and followed her in.
A sudden scream echoed from inside.
"Damn," Kate said with a mocking tone. "You've got strong lungs. What was that scream?"
"Were you following me?" Allison demanded.
"You can't blame me for worrying about my favorite niece," Kate replied casually. "What are you looking for?"
"I don't know. Something… anything." Allison hesitated. "Why did he try to kill us?"
Kate chuckled. "Come on. Just imagine being trapped here with your father and me."
"That doesn't mean I want to become some sick killer," Allison snapped.
"You don't need to be sick to be a killer," Kate replied calmly. "You just need a reason."
Allison suddenly stood up."I want to be stronger! I don't want to be afraid anymore. I want to feel strong."
Kate stepped closer, circling her slowly."Allison… give me some time, and I can give you exactly what you want."
Clap. Clap. Clap.
The sudden applause made them both flinch.
Kate instantly reached for her weapon. "Derek?" she called out.
Allison moved behind her, scanning the room.
Then a familiar voice echoed from the broken floor above.
"Kate Argent. Allison Argent. Such an emotional moment."A low chuckle."Hmm… witnessing the birth of a hunter. Very… very exciting."
They looked up.
Standing there was Sean.
Kate froze. Chris had warned her. Even without that warning, the massacres over the past few days had made one thing clear this man was dangerous.
"Allison," Kate said firmly, her voice tense and unsteady, "don't move from behind me."
Allison felt the shift in the air. She had never seen Kate this unsettled before.
She looked at Sean. His face felt strangely familiar like she'd seen him before. But she couldn't recognize him. Half of his face was obscured by a swirling darkness.
Sean chuckled as he began to walk forward.
"Allison… Allison," he said softly. "Do you really want to become a hunter? Do you even know what happens to hunters?"
His voice was dark. Mocking.
Kate raised her gun, finger tightening on the trigger."Stay back."
Sean smirked, glancing at the weapon."Really?"
The Argents had been tracking him for days. They must've realized by now ordinary bullets barely worked on him unless they were infused with something far stronger.
As Sean drew closer, Allison asked shakily,"Who… who are you?"
Before Sean could answer, Kate spoke.
"He's a monster, Allison. The reason your father's been on edge. This man has killed hundreds over the past few days."
Allison stared at Sean in terror, feeling as though a massive shadow loomed behind him.
Sean said nothing. He only laughed.
Then he turned toward the door.
"I'll be watching you," he said quietly. "And if you make the wrong move…"
He didn't finish the sentence.
His hand brushed the wall beside the door. The surface shattered instantly.
Then he was gone as if he'd never been there at all.
Allison collapsed to the floor, her legs giving out.
Kate stood there, breathing heavily. As a hunter, she was sensitive to bloodlust and what she'd felt just now surpassed anything she'd ever experienced.
She helped Allison to her feet and led her out of the house.
Elsewhere, Derek and Stiles were locked in a tense discussion.
"Scott couldn't get the necklace," Stiles said. "Allison wouldn't even talk to him. We need another plan."
Derek stared at him silently, as if asking what kind of plan?
"Actually," Stiles continued, "Allison got a message from Scott's phone. Asking to meet at school."
Derek frowned. "And?"
"That wasn't Scott."
Derek grew suspicious. "Can we find out who sent it?"
"Yes," Stiles said. "Not me but I know who can."
"Then call them."
Stiles nodded, pulling out his phone. Then he paused and looked at Derek.
"By the way… do you know what happened to Sean after the full moon?"
Derek hesitated.
"Yeah," he said slowly. "He's alive. Just…"
He didn't finish.
Because the rest was too dark.
Derek had seen Sean once killing hunters. He'd spoken to him that night, and even though he'd only known Sean for weeks, this version of him felt far darker.
He didn't tell Stiles any of that.
Stiles noticed the pause."Just what?"
"He's resting," Derek said finally. "He'll be back soon. Maybe today. Maybe even sooner."
Stiles felt relieved but for some reason, a sense of unease settled deep in his chest.
That evening, Derek and Stiles pulled up in front of the hospital.
The message had come from Melissa McCall, Scott's mother. That alone made no sense. If she was asking for help, something was very wrong. Whatever was happening, it wasn't normal.
Derek stayed in the car while Stiles went inside.
He scanned the halls, checking every corner. When he found nothing, he pulled out his phone and called Derek.
Stiles "Hey, Derek. I can't find her. I've checked everywhere."
Derek "Ask Jennifer. She's the one handling things with my uncle."
Stiles "That's the problem. Your uncle isn't here either."
Derek "What?"
Stiles "He's gone, Derek. Not here."
Derek's voice sharpened instantly.
Derek "Stiles, get out of there. Now. That's him. He's the Alpha. Get outside."
Stiles lowered the phone and froze.
Peter Hale was standing to his right, leaning casually against the wall, watching him.
Peter "You must be Stiles."
Stiles took a step back, ready to run, but a nurse suddenly blocked his way.
Nurse "What are you doing here? Visiting hours are over."
Stiles stared at both of them as realization slammed into place.
Stiles "You… and him… oh my God. I'm going to die."
He barely had time to react before Derek moved knocking the nurse unconscious in one clean motion.
Derek "Stiles. Move."
Stiles ducked out of the way.
As he ran, Derek and Peter were already fighting though calling it a fight felt generous. Peter had the upper hand, completely dominating Derek.
Stiles turned a corner at full speed and slammed straight into someone.
He hit the ground hard.
Stiles "Hey, you need to get out of here?!"
His voice faded as he looked up.
Sean was standing over him.
Sean "Wow. Damn. Your head's basically solid metal."
Stiles didn't answer. He scrambled to his feet and hugged him.
Stiles "Sean… I thought you were dead."
Sean exhaled slowly.
Sean "Sometimes, I wish I was."
That made Stiles pull back.
Stiles "We have to leave. The Alpha is here. Peter Hale. He's the Alpha."
He grabbed Sean's arm and tried to pull him away but Sean didn't move.
Sean "I know who the Alpha is, Stiles. And even if we wanted to run… we can't."
Stiles glanced behind them.
Peter and Derek were standing side by side now.
Peter looked directly at Sean.
Peter "You know, you really pissed me off that night. First time anyone ever slipped out of my hands. And on top of that… you actually managed to hurt me."
Sean didn't respond. He just watched him.
The silence stretched tight.
Derek's eyes flicked to Stiles do something but Stiles had no idea what that something was.
Sean finally spoke.
Sean "You don't need to stand in my way like I have a choice. If I'm needed… I'll help."
He turned, grabbed Stiles by the arm, and walked away.
Peter and Derek watched them go.
Stiles stared at Sean as they moved.
Stiles "Are you seriously on his side?"
Sean "I'm on no one's side, Stiles. Our interests just happen to align. That's all."
Stiles "So what now? You're just going to keep hiding?"
Sean "No. We're going to Scott."
Stiles nodded.
They got into the car and drove away from the hospital.
