Chapter 9 - Apocalypse Roulette, Apocalypse Store

Moving to the base cities and the citizens who had been banned from City 01.

The banned people were being led by Olivia, a 23- or 24-year-old-looking female with dark black hair. Her face looked plain, but her eyes held a fire of survival. She had been a part-time worker before the apocalypse and was still in her work uniform.

She had gathered the people who had been cast out. Although the number that had gathered could be called many, compared to the people who had decided to stay near City 01, it was about one-tenth of the whole group that had been cast out.

Once the people who had planned to follow her had been finalized, she received a notification: .

She looked at the Apocalypse Roulette, which showed the spin options in silver and a wheel featuring an ice ball, a beast that looked like a rodent but with tusks and wings, and many other human and monster figures.

Olivia looked at the spins while also keeping a lookout at the surroundings for anything edible. Getting impatient, she mentally clicked on spin, selecting the Level 1 spin.

Rumble!

It was like an ancient wheel had spun, bringing the rise of humanity with it. The Roulette spun with a smooth, deep sound that resonated with Olivia's soul.

When the wheel finally stopped, it had landed on a human figure wrapped in an overwhelmingly green aura. Olivia began to feel some kind of lock being unlocked within her blood.

Wood Element Physique (Basic): Grants the user familiarity with the control of the wood element. Boost in cultivating wood element spells. Also helpful in other element branches related to Wood.

Olivia looked at the description and the rising green wisp of energy from her fingertips, taking the shape of flexible and curved tendrils that touched the ground around her. Vines started to grow around her.

Reeling in the energy rising out of her fingertips, the connection with the small vines remained. However, instinctively, she knew that after a few seconds, the vines would wither away.

Looking at the stopped Apocalypse Roulette, Olivia thought and decided to spin again, opting to spin for just 6 points after confirming there was an option to spin according to preference for how many points one wanted to spend.

The wheel started to spin again. This time, it lost some of the charm it had shown for the Level 1 spin of 10 points.

Olivia looked at the reduced points, which now showed 80 points. The wheel slowly came to a stop.

"Olivia, did you find anything?" one of the citizens named John called out suddenly, arriving from behind her.

"No, there are only plants and some vines, but nothing that would be edible. Did you or the other people find anything?"

"No, we also did not have any luck. However, there was something strange: when we started to search and had completed a search of an area, we got 5 points each. Did you get any points?"

Olivia heard this and looked toward the points count, which had unknowingly risen to 85 points.

"Yes, I got the points as well. Have you tried spinning the Roulette?" Olivia asked, a bit skeptical.

John replied, not noticing the slightly raised pitch in her voice, "No, we came to the conclusion not to spin after one of us tried spinning and got a gold brick. Instead, we searched the Apocalypse Store and found different things available. There was food, but also weapons that were kind of mystical."

"All of us decided to pool our points and get weapons for the stronger builds. The elders, children, and weaker physique ones got food and camping gear."

Olivia mulled it over and shared that she was okay with that, keeping her Wood Element Physique a secret for now.

Olivia and John moved toward the clearing that they had located after moving about 15 minutes from the City 01 entrance.

While moving toward the temporary base, Olivia looked at the Roulette that had stopped spinning.

Wand: Instrument to help a mage cast spells smoothly and increase the power of spells by 2-5%. Can be used to block an attack from a level 10 being!

Olivia looked at the description and did not take the wand out from the Storage of the Apocalypse Roulette.

Instead, after checking out the Roulette, her gaze moved toward the Apocalypse Store.

It showed categories where anything could be found—from pencils to atomic bombs and many unknown things never seen by humans or this planet.

Right now, instead of checking those things that could not be useful, her gaze moved toward the store's Physiques section:

Physiques:

Strength Physique (Basic) (basic strength physique; after training, can contend with level 10 beings): 10 Points

Agility Physique (Basic) (basic agility physique; after training, increases overall agility, reflexes, and matches speed of basic level 10): 10 Points

Overall Physique Improvement (Basic) (Improves comprehensive stats directly to a level 10 being): 50 Points

...

Looking at the Physiques listed made her understand she might have lucked out with her first spin, because her Wood Element Physique showed it was 30 points.

Searching for her wand in the store, she found the wand for 10 points. This also saved her some points.

Next, she looked at the camp equipment that could be bought straight away without the need to set it up oneself. It showed a camp allowing 30 people for 100 points, and a camp allowing one person for 5 points. However, the single-person camp did not have the same facilities as the one that cost 100 points.

Arriving near the clearing, they heard a ruckus and tension in the air, along with screams.

ROAR!
