Chapter 13 - First Glimpse of Apocalypse Civilization

Ren decided to follow the two-person team. He planned to move around the lake to catch up to them and to test his newly changed body and the suit.

He started running along the shore without any worry of being seen, since the suit was camouflaged. At first, he jogged lightly to test his speed, planning to increase it if it felt too slow.

The two people also turned around and began returning to their base, following the same path they had taken earlier.

After jogging for only a few seconds, Ren realized he was already moving faster than his full speed before his revival. Deciding that this was enough testing, he began running at full speed.

If he hadn't been wearing the suit, he might have created a sonic boom from the sudden acceleration. As he pushed his speed further and started running seriously, his hair color once again turned black as ink, as if it were pulling everything into a void.

The suit reduced air resistance, allowing him to cut through the air and catch up to the two people before they could even take ten steps.

Once he adjusted to the speed, Ren continued following them. Looking at their clothes, he noticed they were wearing something similar to what people wore before the apocalypse. He had many questions, but for now, he decided that returning to civilization came first.

The journey was uneventful for the two people, as Ren dealt with every mutant before they could appear in front of the unaware humans. By following them, he earned about 50–60 points.

Most of the mutants that appeared were low-level, unlike the bear he had dealt with earlier. Just as he began wondering how far the base was, he saw a clearing filled with golden light and strange symbols radiating brilliance.

The two people he was following touched the golden symbols, and their bodies dissolved into particles of light, which were absorbed by the wall of symbols.

Ren observed this without making a move, as he noticed other people entering and exiting through the same golden symbols on the wall.

As he thought about wanting to see the city in its entirety and understand how large it was, his feet suddenly left the ground. He began to hover, sensing that this ability came from himself rather than the suit.

Carefully controlling his movement to avoid the tree branches, he rose above the forest canopy. From above, he saw a dome-like structure covering a city that appeared no larger than the smallest cities from before the apocalypse. After gradually learning how to fly properly, he began thinking about how to enter the city.

At first, he considered ramming straight into the symbols, but a deep sense of dread washed over him, as though doing so might kill him. He abandoned that idea immediately.

Instead, he turned his attention to the Unlucky Roulette and the Destiny Store, weighing which option would be better.

The Destiny Store would definitely have what he needed to enter the city, but he worried about potential side effects. The roulette, on the other hand, meant leaving things to chance.

Seeing that he had 46,186 points, he decided to use 186 points to round the number and hope for the best.

After selecting spin, Ren returned to the ground and stood near the city wall.

The wheel spun and then stopped.

Without giving the drink another glance, he stored it away and decided to try a 1,000-point spin.

He spun the roulette again and watched as it stopped on an item resembling a locket with a bead or pearl.
