Chapter 8 - Revival

Ren eyed the notifications, going line by line. The species "???" made him question, "What am I now? Would I still be able to have kids?" Still feeling his reproductive parts present—and somehow even more enhanced—made him feel happy, but his own thoughts also put him in a strange mood.

Moving to the next part, "Passive" made him understand why he was not too overwhelmed by his changes and everything, especially being naked underground.

Nothing in "Active" as it should be. Then, moving to the points—which should have shocked him—he tried to understand what might have happened. Did someone drop an atomic bomb?

Ren thought further and recalled that by the end, before he almost died of a heart attack, there was silence, like he was the only one left, which should not have been possible. But what would he know? He was unable to understand what had happened till now.

He only knew that some kind of apocalypse had started and he had tried to revive his supposedly dead girlfriend. However, not seeing even a trace of her body had almost left him dead.

Ren silently thanked Dr. Woohoo, whom he had never known, and thought about how foolish he had been to almost give up multiple times. He accepted reality quickly: this would be his life now, being unlucky.

Snapping out of his inner thoughts, Ren punched forward, not caring about anything blocking his fist.

WOOSH!

A hand shot out of the ground. Mutants lurking around the area, startled, started searching for the source of the sound.

Ren, unaware, pulled himself out of the ground, standing buck naked without any shame. He glanced around to check for any larger leaves or something to cover himself with.

He started moving toward the sound of water nearby, slowly approaching it, ignoring the changes and the surroundings that looked like someone had vomited everything from Earth together—not even registering the sky, with both sun and moon out in the open, or the clouds.

Ren found some thin, large grass-like plants, but they could not help him cover himself up. Looking at the water made him feel thirsty. Moving toward it, he bent down to drink.

Looking at his reflection in the water, he suddenly leapt back. He turned around, not finding anything.

Slowly moving back to the lake, he leaned down to look at the reflection. "Am I this guy? Did I change souls with someone? Who could have done this?" What Ren saw was a man with fiery red and orange hair that shone like a traffic signal, making everyone stop.

The face would have been considered handsome with its morning sleepy-head hairstyle, but the hair itself stole all the attention.

Ren finally started noticing the changes he had gone through after being revived. He had grown a bit taller. He had slimmed down but did not look too muscular. The blood—or whatever—was running in his body, making him glow, although not very brightly. He looked like a human lamp with his shining hair and softly glowing body.

Taking his attention away from his body, he looked around and finally noticed the surroundings.

The trees—or whatever they had mutated into—looked purple or shades of purple. The grass was the same lighter shade. He could see that the lake was the only thing blue. Overhead, the crescent moon and red blazing sun. The thorny clouds dropping who-knows-what.

Scratch, scratch!

Ren turned his head to find a bear-like mutated animal trying to thrash and break into his skin.

The bear suddenly stopped, first looking at the hair—almost showing an expression of restrained laughter—then looking at Ren's eyes, which had turned pitch black, along with the hair slowly turning pitch black like a mysterious doorway to another dimension.

The bear mutant started trembling and slowly leaked itself, the liquid flowing toward Ren's feet.

Feeling the liquid, Ren's expression slowly started to thaw. His expressionless face morphed into one showing pure wrath—eyes fully wide, swearing at the ancestors of the bear, nose flaring.

Ren slapped toward the bear's head, which had: . Ren did not think if his hand would be bitten, held, or broken by the bear. Before the bear could register or realize what had happened, it was missing the area of its head where Ren's hand had passed.

The pain registering in its brain, the bear also looked toward the hand that held its lower jaw, some part of its nose, and some part of its tongue. Then it looked toward the thing that looked human but was more freaky than itself. The bear whimpered, like it had been scammed by its lover, and ran away with tears in its eyes, hoping the freak did not chase after it.

Ren just stood there, with the flesh, blood, bones, and whatever was inside his hand. Slowly looking toward his hand and realizing his power, he gasped and got a bit excited. Throwing the fleshy thing away and bringing his hand to his face to stifle the laughter that almost burst out.

Suddenly, he heard some sounds. He turned around and looked at a group of creatures: a lion, elephant, camel, lizards, snakes, birds, etc.

The mutated creatures looked at Ren, also noticing the hair, which had color returning—but this time not orange-red, but more pinkish-purple. Then, following that, they looked at his face, which was glowing from the hair's light and his body. The hand that was stifling his laughter dropped, and he had hand marks on his face due to the blood, which gave a look like he had just finished devouring something.

The animals got startled and slowly backpedaled, the crawlers trying to be unnoticed and the birds scattering into the sky, flying in different directions.

Finally, when they were out of view, they ran like their lives depended on it, leaving Ren dumbfounded, unaware of how he looked now.
