Alice's POV
I woke up with Bryan's arm around me and didn't panic. I didn't rush, although my body was feeling sore from God knows how many rounds we went on the night before. I just lay there for a while, staring at the ceiling and listening to his breath behind me. It was steady and slow, like he had nothing to worry about in the world. His chest rose and fell against my back, and for a moment, I let myself stay there.
Last night came back to me in pieces, and I remembered everything right from when I was panicking when the police came around, to him comforting me, his voice, his hands, and the way he had looked at me like he wanted me, like he had chosen me, even if it was just for one night. My chest felt tight, but not in a bad way. More like something fragile was sitting there, something I didn't want to touch too hard.
I turned slightly to look at him.
