Chapter 1 - Chapter 1- The Price Of Love

Jason Kingsley adjusted the sleeves of his worn jacket as he stepped into the luxurious restaurant.

The place looked like something out of a dream.

Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting warm golden light across polished marble floors. The soft sound of a piano filled the room while elegantly dressed couples sat around candlelit tables.

Jason hesitated at the entrance.

This was easily the most expensive place he had ever been to.

But tonight was important.

Tonight was Vanessa's birthday.

Jason took a deep breath and walked inside.

Near the center of the restaurant, he spotted Vanessa sitting with her friends. They were laughing loudly, surrounded by plates of expensive food and half-finished glasses of wine.

Vanessa looked stunning as always. Her long black dress shimmered under the lights, and her perfectly styled hair fell over her shoulders.

For a moment, Jason forgot all about the price of the restaurant.

He smiled and walked over.

"Hey, sorry I'm late," Jason said.

Vanessa glanced up at him.

Her smile faded almost instantly.

"You're late," she said flatly.

Jason scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

"My delivery shift ended late. My boss wouldn't let me leave early."

One of Vanessa's friends looked Jason up and down and scoffed.

"A delivery guy?" she whispered loudly to the others.

They giggled.

Jason pretended not to notice and pulled out a small box from his pocket.

"I got you something," he said, placing it gently on the table.

Vanessa raised an eyebrow.

"Open it," Jason said nervously.

Vanessa slowly opened the box.

Inside was a simple silver necklace.

Jason had spent nearly all his savings to buy it.

For a moment, the table went quiet.

Then Vanessa started laughing.

It wasn't a warm laugh.

It was the kind of laugh people make when they see something ridiculous.

"A silver necklace?" she said.

Her friends burst into laughter.

"Oh my God," one of them said. "Is this a joke?"

Jason felt heat rise to his face.

"I know it's not very expensive," he said quietly. "But I thought you would like it."

Vanessa closed the box and pushed it back toward him.

"You thought wrong."

The words hit Jason like a punch to the chest.

Jason stared at her.

"Vanessa… what do you mean?"

Vanessa leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms.

"Jason, look around you."

Jason slowly looked around the restaurant.

Everyone here looked rich.

Designer suits. Luxury watches. Expensive jewelry.

Vanessa leaned closer and lowered her voice.

"You don't belong here."

Her friends chuckled again.

Jason's stomach twisted.

"I brought you here because I wanted tonight to be special," he said softly.

Vanessa suddenly grabbed the necklace box and tossed it onto the table.

"This?" she said loudly. "This is embarrassing."

The people at nearby tables began turning their heads.

Jason felt their eyes on him.

"But I used all my savings for—"

Before he could finish, Vanessa raised her hand and slapped the table.

"Enough!"

The restaurant fell silent.

Vanessa stood up.

"You're poor, Jason," she said coldly. "And I'm tired of pretending that doesn't matter."

Jason felt the world spin around him.

"What are you saying?"

Vanessa smiled.

But this time, it was cruel.

"I'm breaking up with you."

Gasps came from some of the nearby tables.

Jason stared at her in shock.

"You can't be serious…"

Vanessa stepped aside and wrapped her arm around a man sitting beside her.

Jason hadn't even noticed him before.

The man wore a perfectly tailored suit and a watch that probably cost more than Jason made in a year.

"Let me introduce you," Vanessa said proudly.

"This is Daniel Carter."

The man smirked as he stood up.

"So you're the boyfriend I've heard so much about," Daniel said casually.

Jason's fists slowly clenched.

Vanessa laughed again.

"Oh please. Don't call him my boyfriend."

She looked at Jason like he was something dirty stuck to her shoe.

"He was just a placeholder until someone better came along."

Daniel slipped an arm around Vanessa's waist.

"You should know your place," Daniel said calmly. "A broke delivery guy dating someone like Vanessa? That's just pathetic."

Laughter exploded around the table.

Jason's chest felt tight.

Every word cut deeper than the last.

Vanessa grabbed her glass of red wine.

"You know what?" she said.

Then she threw the wine directly at Jason's face.

The cold liquid splashed across his clothes.

The entire restaurant gasped.

Vanessa smirked.

"That's for wasting my time."

Jason stood there silently.

Wine dripped from his hair and jacket.

The laughter around him echoed loudly.

But inside his pocket…

His phone vibrated.

Jason slowly pulled it out.

One message.

From an unknown number.

His heart was still pounding as he opened it.

The message contained only one sentence.

"Young Master… we have finally found you."

Jason frowned.

Before he could react, his phone started ringing.

The same unknown number.

Jason stared at the screen for a long moment.

Then he answered.

"Hello?"

A calm elderly voice spoke on the other end.

"Young Master Kingsley," the man said respectfully.

"It is time for you to come home."

Jason's entire world was about to change.
