Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Lizard Serum

"It's you who only has three days left, Norman," Professor Connors muttered deeply.

Humans are selfish. Compared to his promise with Norman, his own arm was far more important. He could only say sorry to Norman.

After discovering the gecko's characteristics yesterday, Professor Connors researched various Squamata (lizard) species.

Many lizards possess the ability to shed their tails, and some even eat their detached tails to replenish nutrients. Furthermore, the severed tail will regrow within two to three months.

He could fully utilize the lizard's genes to refine his serum, match it with his own DNA, and inject it into his body!

Unbeknownst to Professor Connors, Norman had already run out of patience with him.

Underground Laboratory

"I knew that man wasn't reliable!" Norman's tone sounded calm, but his anger had already exploded like dynamite.

"What should we do now?" an underling asked.

Norman glanced lightly at the subordinate, staring at the equipment in front of him. "This experiment doesn't need him anymore, and I don't want it to be leaked."

"I understand." The subordinate immediately grasped Norman's meaning: Professor Connors wouldn't live through the night.

After the subordinate left, Norman reached out and caressed the container. "Once the experiment is over, we'll all leave."

Night

"Success! It's a success!" Professor Connors cried out excitedly, his entire body trembling, conveying his overwhelming emotion.

He had finally succeeded! His arm...

However, Professor Connors was extremely cautious. Although the experiment was successful, it was only successful on the white mouse. He hadn't tested it on himself yet.

"This serum contains the DNA formula of the white mouse. Now, it's time to use my own DNA formula."

Professor Connors used his only arm to operate the equipment on the table and wrote down the final formula he had obtained in his notebook.

He was in the basement and hadn't realized that five uninvited guests had already rushed into his house above ground.

"Remember, kill the target and retreat immediately," the leader ordered.

Everyone sprang into action, beginning to search the house.

Basement

"Hmm?" Professor Connors felt dust shake down from the ceiling. His eyes sharpened.

Professor Connors slowly walked up to a screen and flipped the switch. The screen showed surveillance footage from various parts of the room.

Since they were using each other, how could Professor Connors not guard against Norman? For safety, he had intentionally set up surveillance in the four corners of the room.

"No~" Professor Connors never expected that Norman would decide to kill him three days before the launch and before the experiment was even completed!

He knew he would eventually be found in the basement.

He looked at the completed lizard serum on the table, which was matched to his own genes. Just now, he had drawn some of his blood to mix with a drop of the serum to see if they would fuse. The results weren't ready, but Norman's men had arrived.

"Even if it works, I still need time for my body to accept it," Professor Connors desperately racked his brain, trying to figure out how to save himself.

Professor Connors quickly packed the lizard serum from the test tubes, drew it all into a syringe, and put it into a briefcase.

After securing the two most important items, he reached for his formula notebook, but the basement door was kicked open, and footsteps echoed on the stairs.

Professor Connors only had time to grab the briefcase. As he rushed past the microscope, he glanced at the sample: the serum and his blood had fused perfectly, with no anomaly!

"Fantastic!" Connors strained his legs and frantically ran toward the basement's back door, bursting out and hoping no one was guarding that exit.

The five gunmen rushed in and only saw Connors's retreating back, at which they opened fire in a frantic volley.

The instruments on the table were shot to pieces. The experimental white mice were killed, their glowing green eyes fading back to normal.

"F***! There's a back door!" The lead gunman angrily kicked the table over.

THUD!

The notebook on the table fell into a hidden corner. The five gunmen immediately ran off in the direction Connors had fled.

Professor Connors used the back door passageway, which led him back to his ground-floor bathroom.

He opened the window and climbed out. It was late at night, and the streets were mostly empty. He couldn't seek help from the police for what he was doing; he was on his own!

"Where are you going, sir?" Two men appeared in front of Professor Connors.

Professor Connors turned to run, but two more men appeared there as well. To prevent Connors's escape, there were four people lying in wait outside, boxing Connors in completely.

"Hehehe! What's going on here?" Spider-Man arrived!

Silas had not been active tonight; he was busy thinking about the Talisman clues.

"This is none of your business, kid!" Norman's men didn't want any trouble. Their target was only Professor Connors!

"No, no, no. If you're planning to harm that guy in the white coat, then I'm afraid I have to intervene," Peter said, perched on a streetlight.

"Kill him." Norman's men immediately opened fire, shooting at Peter.

Peter used his spider-sense, spinning in the air and perfectly dodging the bullets.

"My gosh, your shooting is worse than kids at a carnival," Peter shot webs, snatching the guns from their hands.

He jumped to the ground and quickly knocked out the four men, using webs to hang them from the streetlight.

"Hello, are you alright?" Peter turned and asked Professor Connors.

Professor Connors asked suspiciously, "Are you Spider-Man?"

"Oh~ That's right. I didn't realize I was so famous. Here's an autograph, make sure you don't lose it." Peter narcissistically pulled out a piece of paper with his signature: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Professor Connors instinctively reached out to take it, but then five more criminals burst out of the house.

"There are more?" Peter put away the autograph and prepared for battle.

Professor Connors, without hesitation, seized the opportunity, turned, and ran. He left the gunmen to the warm-hearted Spider-Man.

After Peter had dealt with everyone, he noticed Professor Connors was gone.

"Where'd he go? Did he run away?" Peter looked around. Seeing no sign of Connors, he sighed.

"I was hoping he could call the police for me. Now I have to do it myself."

Peter, in batches, webbed all nine subdued criminals and hung them from the front of the nearest police station.

"Phew~" Peter clapped his hands. "Done. I should get some rest now, or being late tomorrow would be terrible."

Professor Connors, meanwhile, lay gasping for breath in a pile of junk, hiding behind cardboard boxes.

"I hope that Spider-Man can handle it," Professor Connors decided he couldn't wait any longer.

He resolved to stay at a friend's house and inject the lizard serum there.

Since his blood and the lizard serum had fused perfectly earlier, he was certain that injecting it would be safe.

Underground Laboratory

The serum, which had been perfectly fusing with his blood, suddenly seemed to open its gaping maw like a beast, devouring Professor Connors's blood.

Professor Connors was completely unaware of this.

The well-meaning Peter also had no idea that he had just saved his future enemy.
