Chapter 10 - Martial Warrior

[Master: Sunless]

[Dexterity: 8]

[Strength: 9]

[Agility: 9]

[Spirit: 2]

[Note: 10 is the limit of an ordinary person]

[Professions: healer (4/5), gambler (0/50), speed (4/5), defense (3/5), warrior (3/5), imposter (1/50), supporting (10/50)]

[Martial Warrior: Stage 0]

Sunless stared dumbfoundedly at the system's words.

'So the system can display my stats like this? Kind of like a game interface…?' Sunless hadn't expected it, but it was to be expected since he hadn't checked the system since he started using it.

'This perfectly explains things…' Sunless let out a relieved sigh.

With this interface, he could keep track of his progress.

Sunless mused and pondered for a bit, glancing at the system's lines.

'If my guess isn't wrong… entry stage requires one attribute… then adept stage requires five attributes…'

'What's above that?' Sunless felt a sense of anticipation as he glanced at the three professions that were already at the adept stage.

Sunless calmed himself. With a few more attributes, he would know the answer. And he would even get to explore the levels above that.

Grinning in excitement, his gaze was drawn to something.

[Martial Warrior: Stage 0]

'Is this because I'm not yet a martial warrior?'

Just as Sunless had this thought, he subconsciously glanced back at the two spirit energy points he had.

Spirit energy points could only belong to martial warriors.

Sunless thought for a bit, sensing the state of his body using his divine sense.

Just then, his thoughts entered his body, and he sensed something unique there.

There was a faint, illusory image of a luminescent core within his mental space.

'This…' Sunless' eyes widened subconsciously.

This was a sign of one becoming a martial warrior.

But how?

Sunless was in disbelief.

"Brother… what's wrong?" Sensing that her brother was a little distressed, Jane immediately turned to him.

Sunless shook his head slightly before replying.

"It's nothing…"

As he stood up, he noticed a few floating bubbles beside his sister, numbering up to four.

Without hesitation, he acted as though he was merely passing by and picked them up.

[Ding! Gained 1 Heaven Refining martial technique attribute.]

[Ding! Gained 1 Heaven Refining martial technique attribute.]

[Ding! Gained 1 Heaven Refining martial technique attribute.]

Sunless was slightly startled as he watched his supporting profession climb to 14 in an instant.

At the same time, his comprehension of the heaven energy in the surroundings entering his body deepened.

'This is all due to… my sister?' Sunless felt incredulous as he realized the source of his miraculous change.

Knowing that his sister held a great secret, she was likely cultivating some kind of technique.

As such, the bubbles dropped onto him, and unknowingly, he became a martial warrior.

Realizing all this, Sunless felt gratitude well up in his heart.

He glanced at his sister briefly but ultimately chose not to say anything.

Actions, they say, speak louder than words.

Sunless also noticed Sonia glaring at him from afar.

He could tell she was still angry about him knocking her out the previous day.

…but it didn't matter much anyway.

'She's too soft-hearted to understand these things,' Sunless muttered internally.

He walked to the side of the bed. "What do you plan to do today?"

Normally, Sunless would already be hustling for a job or something to earn money for himself and his sister.

But now that she was awake, he didn't feel like leaving her anytime soon.

"How about playing hero?" Jane grinned briefly as she stood up.

Her legs felt slightly weak due to the fact that she had been in a coma for months.

Sunless stared at her curiously.

"Play hero?"

Since he had raised his sister with love and care, only showing her the good side of the world while hiding all the ugly things he did behind her back, perhaps she too was soft-hearted?

"It's a kind of game. We try to save people within this district, as many as our strength allows," Jane explained.

Instantly, Sonia glared at them. "Are you both crazy? You're running on borrowed time, and you want to do what? Play hero???"

She folded her arms beneath her slightly bulging chest and stared at the two siblings.

Just a few days ago, Sunless had gone to the martial sector and failed to awaken, and Jane had just woken up from a coma.

If she let them go out in such a state, what kind of nurse would she be?

Staring at them, she frowned slightly, her gaze solemn.

Sunless shrugged and turned to his sister.

"Whatever you say, sis. You interested?"

"Of course!" Jane nodded with an excited expression.

Not only were fights a way to relieve her stress, they were also a method of increasing her combat efficiency.

Besides, her main reason for doing this was something else entirely.

In her previous life, she had heard about a particular treasure in this part of the district.

If they could obtain it, she and Sunless could slightly ease the curse for the time being, increasing the time they had left by a bit.

Sunless turned to Sonia, his silver eyes narrowing.

"Are you going to come with us obediently, or should I knock you unconscious like yesterday?"

Sonia's eyes widened slightly as her mouth twitched.

She hesitated before lowering her head.

"I'll tag along… to ensure your safety."

Knowing that trying to stop Sunless would only lead to conflict, Sonia reluctantly agreed.

"Nice!" Sunless gave her a thumbs-up, causing her lips to twitch once more.

By the side, Jane laughed at her brother's behavior, feeling something bloom in her heart.

Times like this… she truly missed times like this…

Under Sonia's reluctant lead, Sunless and Jane were escorted out of the hospital.

Jane glanced at the two and said with a sly smile.

"First, we'll head to the supermarket and get masks and outfits for ourselves to make our appearances unrecognizable."

"Alright," Sunless agreed without hesitation.

Sonia sighed and dragged herself along.

Hailing a cab, she said, "To Northernwood Supermarket."

"The three of you?" the taxi driver glanced at them through the mirror.

Sonia nodded.

"Alright. That'll be seven dollars."

"Okay." Sonia took money from her purse and paid as they alighted from the cab.
