Chapter 8 - Siblings Reunite

Tears streamed down Jane's face as she bawled her eyes out.

She had succeeded in regressing, but she wasn't able to change her brother's fate.

The only person she swore to protect, she had failed him!

Thinking of this, her tears flowed out uncontrollably.

'Then… what's the point of living if I can't protect the one I cherish the most?' As she thought of this, she felt the urge to just take her life right then.

However, she hesitated…

There was still a chance for her…

If she could ascend to the greatest height of the world, she could reverse life and death and bring back her brother…

Just as Jane's mind was surging with all sorts of weird thoughts, the door swung open and a young man with dark hair and a lady on his shoulder entered inside, short of breath.

The moment he entered, he let out a sigh…

His eyes landed on Jane, and he froze.

Jane felt her body stiffen instantly the moment Sunless laid eyes on her…

"B—brother…?" she whispered, not willing to believe her eyes.

Not caring for Sonia, Sunless dropped her and rushed to hug his sister, feeling countless emotions surging in his heart.

Sunless felt like shedding tears for a brief moment, but held himself firm and just embraced her warmly.

Meanwhile, Sonia felt Sunless' warmth leave her and she stiffened…

Her eyes were wide and filled with shock…

How was Sunless alive…

She subconsciously glanced towards the calendar. The date was still the same as before.

She had ingrained this date into her mind, as it was the date that Sunless died!

"How…" Jane whispered under her breath, her mind still filled with disbelief.

She wanted to dismiss this as an illusion, believing it to be some sort of illusion that someone had cast, but… she just couldn't.

Feeling the familiar brotherly warmth that had protected her for fifteen years, she knew that this couldn't be faked…

Finally, the tears that were already beginning to dry up began streaming once again.

"It's really you… brother… I thought I'll never see you again… sob… sob…"

Jane sobbed uncontrollably as she tightened her grip on Sunless' shirt.

Sunless was startled…

"Did you have a nightmare?" he asked as he ruffled her silvery hair, caressing it gently and causing her to relax slightly.

Jane smiled, and countless painful memories surged through her mind…

"Yes… a nightmare. It was a nightmare I wish would never come to pass…" she replied, then continued pressing herself against Sunless.

Sunless let out a breath as he pulled her from the hug.

He stared at her intently, noticing the reluctance in her eyes.

Using his two thumbs, he gently wiped the tears from her eyes…

"There… I've told you. No matter how terrifying the nightmare, I will always protect you."

For a moment, Jane fell into a daze.

It had been a very, very long time since she heard these words, and tears couldn't help flowing from her eyes once more.

"Silly girl, you're just a year below me. Why are you crying like a child?" Sunless laughed and wiped her tears again.

"Hehe…" Finally, Jane just grinned, keeping her eyes on Sunless and watching his every movement.

Suddenly, Sunless touched his nose lightly, feeling slightly awkward.

"You know you don't have to stare at me like that, right?"

To reply to him, Jane placed her palms under her chin and relaxed, her gaze remaining fixed on Sunless.

Chuckling at her antics, Sunless stood up.

"How's your body right now?"

As he asked, he walked towards Jane with an apologetic expression on his face and picked her up.

"It's still the same…" Jane muttered in reply as she moved her mysterious spiritual energy through her body, sensing her state and the impurities clogging it.

This was a technique she had mastered in her past life, which she could use to sense the state of her body.

'At this rate, I have barely two years to live…' Jane estimated in her mind.

Sunless was unaware of the situation, so he just nodded and sighed.

"Don't let it bother you too much. I will find a way to heal you soon."

As Sunless finished speaking, he clenched his fist.

Suddenly, his eyes narrowed slightly as he noticed a few bubbles dropping from his sister…

'This…' Sunless was slightly startled, not expecting his sister to drop bubbles.

He walked towards her and hugged her once again. Using the chance, he picked up the bubbles around her…

As Sunless picked up the golden attribute bubbles, a surge of astonishment coursed through him as the details of the spirit-type profession appeared in his mind.

[Ding! Congratulations on stepping into the adept stage supporting-type profession. Your knowledge of using spirit energy has increased exponentially.]

In Sunless' mind was a crash of information.

This detailed knowledge made him understand that martial warriors absorbed spirit energy, and from this profession, they could use this spirit energy to sense all kinds of things.

This included sensing one's strength, the state of one's body, and many more.

Although, because he was just at the entry stage, he could only sense someone's strength to a large extent.

And he didn't possess any spiritual energy to use with the class, so he couldn't sense anything for now.

Still, Sunless was bewildered that such an attribute had dropped from his sister's body.

'Is it a coincidence?' Sunless questioned no one in particular as he retracted from the hug and stared at his sister suspiciously.

"Sister, is there something you want to tell me?"

"Huh?" Jane stared up at her brother with a stunned expression as her heart skipped a beat.

'Does he know something?'

She hesitated briefly on whether to speak or not…

"There's nothing I want to tell you…" finally, Jane said nervously.

Sunless narrowed his eyes at Jane, pondering slightly and understanding that she was definitely hiding something…

Having lived with her for many years, he could tell when she was lying.

Under Sunless' intense gaze, Jane's heart was beating wildly and, unable to keep it from him, she opened her mouth to speak…

"Sigh… brother… you caught me… I'm actually a…"
