Chapter 9 - Hunting (9)

His goal for now was simple — he would build himself a small hut to live in. He sighed a bit.

Well, time to work.

Going into the forest, he would summon a fire axe. He found out he could make fire tools; it was a nifty skill.

But this wouldn't work much.

So, he would look at his hand.

As he did so, fire would begin gathering there, rotating around his arm at incredible speed, making it spin like some sort of chainsaw.

Now, with his energy blade chainsaw arm, he began his work, chopping down tree after tree.

After his fifth tree, he took some saplings and seeds that had fallen and replanted them. He wasn't a dick — he wouldn't cut without replanting.

Now for the process of creating planks.

Once more, he made fire tools and began carving. Struggling as he worked, the sun went down. He spent roughly 12 hours doing this, making planks.

He also made himself wooden tools. With his shovel, he dug a hole in the ground — basically carving out a rectangle in the earth.

He dug out what would be the foundation of the house.

Using a stick, he drew out what he wanted.

He just wanted a small little hut, with a toilet, a bed, and a kitchen. The other stuff could wait. He knew he wasn't knowledgeable enough to make a house out of bricks, but he could do wood.

After all, he was good with stuff like this. Times like this made him glad he had helped his dad with those 12 hours of unpaid labor back when he was a kid.

They were helping him now.

For the first day, he was only able to build the foundation. That was enough progress for now.

He heard his belly grumble. Okay, so he needed food — just something kind of light.

So, he spread his wings and tried to flap them once more.

It looked awkward as hell — twisting and turning like no other. He was truly a beginner at this flying thing.

He really needed to learn it; it would help him so much with building the house. This project of his would take so freaking long.

Plus, he didn't even know how harsh the winters here were. While he was confident he could survive as a Lunarien, his human thoughts were still there, and he wanted warmth.

For a solid 30 minutes, he flapped around and fell like an idiot. Okay, this flight thing would take a while.

He needed to get used to these new limbs of his.

But first...

He needed something to hunt. Until he got the gist of his powers, he would be damned if he just went out there.

So, he tried to make a bow.

Since he'd been chopping trees and doing stuff with them — like building a house and using them as a back scratcher — he had the materials.

Okay, he found a stick, 6 feet in length. That should be good enough.

He tested its stretchiness, and it passed the test.

Now, he summoned some flames at the tips of his fingers and began carving it. The fire was compressed to a very small level, working more like a cutting agent than anything.

He sliced the parts that needed slashing.

He made his strings using a lot of dried material he had nearby. It worked for his purpose.

Probably not gonna last long, but hey.

As for the arrows...

He created flaming arrows.

He could do this. He made sure the wood was wet just in case.

He went to a vantage point near the lake and waited for any creature to get thirsty so he could hunt them down.

He barely made any sounds, using his gift of sensing to tell if a creature was there. He even had his flame off for this, hiding in the foliage. He was truly undetectable.

He waited there... for 3 hours...

Before a Brachiosaurus came to drink some water.

Shit was big as hell, with a 50-foot neck.

This could feed him for a while.

He closed his eyes, focusing mostly on his senses.

As he breathed out, some fire seemed to come out of his lips, flowing toward the bow.

He pulled on the strings, closed one eye, and gazed at the creature with the other. He steadied his heartbeat.

Thadump

Thadum

Thadum

.....

He released the strings.

FWOSH

The flaming arrow launched toward the beast, not even giving it time to react. By the time the creature raised its head to look around, everything turned white for it.

It died instantly.

It was shot directly in the heart.

The beast's massive body fell to the ground, dead.

Meanwhile, roughly 100 feet away, Kairo watched, calming himself down. Not once did he think his knowledge as a surgeon would help him so much in locating a beast's weak spot and killing it.

He had released his arrow as the beast was exhaling, when it was at its calmest. And since he used his flame to boost the penetrating power of the bow, the creature stood no chance.

Speaking of the bow, his gaze went to it.

The bow was charred, burned to a crisp. This was to be expected. Next time, he would make one out of fire.

This bow couldn't contain the power he had.

Even now, he didn't even know how strong he was — he was simply still getting used to this new body of his.
