19 - A Dangerous Change
"So what do you think?
"Why are you showing me this, Mr Lythoryn?" She looked away from the pictures to another object on the table just to distract herself. "I am not a detective. I can't do anything to help these people.
"You can. Just as you are. There is no use denying it."
Those were unsettling words, but she fought the urge to shift in her seat and sat still instead.
He was planning a game, and she couldn't risk losing it or getting caught in it.
When he spoke next, his voice sounded nearer, as if he had closed the distance between them slightly. Idalia could feel her back burn with the knowledge of his presence, but she kept her gaze firmly on the labelless bottle.
"The message on the wall has been recovered. We even had a little help from the perpetrator themselves."
It was becoming difficult to keep her breathing even, but she did, as she watched him slide another picture right in front of her.
