Seasoned With Love
Season 3 – Episode 3: "Holding Two Worlds"
Amara's POV
Pregnancy is strange.
Not in a bad way.
Just… humbling.
Because the restaurant doesn't slow down just because my body decided to start building a human.
And the restaurant has always moved fast.
Too fast sometimes.
This morning I was standing in the kitchen doorway watching Marcus argue with a produce supplier on speakerphone while Rose reorganized next week's event calendar like a general planning a war.
Normal day.
Except now everyone keeps looking at me like I might break.
I crossed my arms.
"I can still work."
Marcus didn't even look up.
"No one said you can't."
Rose raised an eyebrow.
"But you are sitting down at some point today."
I narrowed my eyes.
"You two had a meeting about me, didn't you?"
Marcus shrugged.
"Luke started it."
Of course he did.
Right on cue, Luke walked in carrying a small box.
I sighed.
"What is it this time?"
He set the box on the table.
"Doctor-approved snacks."
Rose burst out laughing.
Marcus shook his head.
"Man came prepared."
Luke looked at me seriously.
"You skipped breakfast yesterday."
"That was one time."
"Amara."
"Luke."
We stared at each other for a second.
Rose whispered to Marcus,
"They're doing the name thing again."
Marcus whispered back,
"It means neither of them is backing down."
Luke opened the box and started setting things out like a very organized nurse.
Fruit.
Granola bars.
Crackers.
I blinked.
"Luke… this is a lot."
"You need energy."
"I run a restaurant."
"Exactly."
I tried not to smile, but it slipped out anyway.
"Okay fine," I said, grabbing a granola bar. "But nobody treats me like I'm fragile."
Marcus pointed toward the dining room.
"Too late. Customers already noticed."
I groaned.
"Great."
Rose nodded.
"Half of them want to give you advice."
"Please tell me you stopped that."
"Oh I did," she said proudly. "I told them Amara is the boss."
I liked that answer.
Luke pulled out a chair beside me.
"Come sit for a minute."
"I am literally standing."
"Sit anyway."
I sat.
Mostly because I knew he wouldn't stop until I did.
He leaned forward slightly.
"Talk to me honestly. How are you feeling?"
I thought about it.
"Tired sometimes."
Rose nodded.
"That's normal."
Marcus added,
"But you've still been doing double shifts."
Luke looked at me carefully.
"Amara…"
"I know," I said quietly. "I just don't want the restaurant to slip."
Luke shook his head immediately.
"It won't."
"You don't know that."
"I do."
I frowned slightly.
"How?"
Luke leaned back in his chair.
"Because this place isn't just running on you anymore."
He gestured around the room.
"Marcus runs the kitchen like a machine now."
Marcus grinned.
"True."
"Rose basically runs operations."
Rose nodded confidently.
"Also true."
Then Luke looked back at me.
"And Amara built a team."
Something about that made my chest feel warm.
But still…
"I don't like slowing down."
Luke smiled softly.
"I know."
Rose crossed her arms.
"Which is exactly why we're making adjustments."
I blinked.
"What adjustments?"
Marcus slid a paper across the table.
"A new schedule."
I looked down at it.
Shorter hours.
Delegation shifts.
Manager coverage.
I looked back up slowly.
"You guys already planned this?"
Rose smiled.
"We've been planning it for two weeks."
I stared at them.
"Two weeks?"
Luke nodded.
"You were pushing yourself too hard."
I looked at him.
"You didn't tell me."
He answered calmly.
"Because I wanted a solution first."
Marcus added,
"And we didn't want you thinking we were taking control away from you."
Rose pointed at the schedule.
"You're still the boss."
I studied the paper again.
Honestly…
It was smart.
Very smart.
I sighed.
"Okay… this is actually good."
Marcus raised his hands.
"Victory."
Rose smirked.
"Told you she'd see it."
Luke leaned closer.
"But there's something else."
I looked at him.
"What?"
"The city."
I exhaled.
"Of course."
Rose nodded.
"They're watching the restaurant more now."
Marcus added,
"And business is growing faster than expected."
I looked around the dining room again.
More customers.
More reservations.
More attention.
And now a baby coming.
Two worlds.
Luke spoke quietly.
"Amara doesn't have to carry both alone."
I met his eyes.
"You really believe that?"
"I do."
Rose suddenly said,
"Also, one more thing."
I braced myself.
"What now?"
Rose smiled.
"The city council invited you to speak at a small business event."
I blinked.
"They did what?"
Marcus laughed.
"Yeah… you're officially inspiring people now."
I leaned back in my chair.
"This is a lot."
Luke nodded.
"Then we take it step by step."
I looked at him.
"You're really calm about all of this."
He smiled slightly.
"I've had practice."
Rose gave him a look again.
The kind of look that meant she still knew there were layers to Luke most people didn't understand.
Marcus clapped his hands.
"Alright, enough talking. We have a restaurant to run."
Customers started coming in.
The lunch rush beginning.
Normal chaos.
But different now.
Luke stood and offered his hand.
"Ready, Amara?"
I took it.
"Always."
Then he leaned closer and whispered,
"Just… maybe fewer double shifts."
I laughed.
"No promises."
Rose called from the counter,
"I heard that!"
Marcus added,
"We all heard that."
And as the restaurant filled with noise and life, I realized something important.
Balancing two worlds isn't about doing everything alone.
It's about trusting the people standing beside you.
And for the first time since the pregnancy news spread across the city…
I finally felt like I could breathe a little easier.
