Europe.
"Commander? The United Nations is pressing us again."
Trace whispered a reminder. Due to his excellent performance recently, he had avoided being sent to the moon to serve as a miserable guard in the lunar defense force.
"Let them wait," Elysia said coldly.
It was already too late to rush over there. Having shed some of her sentimentality, Elysia had gained a rare measure of rationality; her university years in reality had indeed sharpened her wits.
After ordering everyone else to withdraw, Elysia hooked the corners of her mouth with her fingertips, forcing herself to look like she was smiling.
She rapped her knuckles hard against a large door. Before long, the door swung open, and a tall, elegant beauty with long wine-red hair appeared, looking slightly dazed with a hint of tipsy laziness.
"Eden, long time no see."
Elysia walked into the room as if she owned the place and closed the door behind her.
A flash of bewilderment crossed Eden's hazy golden eyes. "Do we... know each other?"
Sister, you're making yourself at home a bit too much, aren't you? Did I drink myself stupid?
"Strictly speaking, we don't know each other yet."
According to the "normal" plot of the dreams, she and Eden were supposed to become first friends after Eden joined MOTH. But that wasn't supposed to happen until after the Seventh Herrscher. Elysia didn't have the patience to wait that long anymore.
"Not... yet?"
Eden's creative mind ground to a halt. We don't know each other? Then...
Then aren't you trespassing? Aren't you afraid I'll call the police?
Oh, you're in uniform... right. Thinking this, Eden sobered up instantly, her eyes turning wary.
"We really don't know each other yet, even though we are meant to be the absolute best of friends. I simply couldn't wait that long," Elysia said with total sincerity. Even outside the dreams, they were very close friends.
Eden sniffed the air slightly. A look of panic crossed her flushed face. You... you aren't an extreme sasaeng fan, are you?
"I need your help, Eden!" Elysia gripped her slender fingers tightly.
"You... please, go on." Eden tried to pull her hand away, but the "cute" girl in front of her had strength that was anything but normal.
"Come with me, Eden!"
Eden's face went pale. Great. A powerful, high-ranking lady is an obsessed stalker fan of mine.
"Let's go save the world together."
Elysia's voice lost some of its usual sing-song playfulness. She had gone to university—in the real world. Without money, power, or force, you could achieve nothing. But Eden had money, Elysia had the force, and by leveraging the momentum of the Herrscher and the shell of MOTH, they could combine everything. Time, place, and people—all in their favor. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
"...How much money do you want?"
Her voice—hailed as a masterpiece of human art—didn't tremble, but her bloodless face made it clear she wasn't "convinced" by the heroic speech.
"Everything."
Elysia tilted her snow-white neck. Her greedy demand paired with her military uniform made Eden wonder if she should die with her dignity or just hand over the ransom for her life. Since Elysia wasn't hiding her actions, Eden figured the girl must have world-ending power behind her. She couldn't just be that stupidly confident.
"I'll have my manager transfer all my cash to you immediately."
"Not just the cash."
These gluttons can never be sated. Hearing Elysia's further demands, Eden suddenly felt a sense of resignation, her voice laced with a trace of mockery. "Does your 'background' actually have the capacity to process so much real estate?"
Eden's fixed assets were at a point where they were truly "immovable." From Elysia's tone, she seemed to think she could liquidate them without collapsing the market—which was pure ignorance. If such power truly existed, Eden wouldn't have been able to cross them... and at that level, they wouldn't need to resort to this.
"Don't worry. Great Britain will pay the bill for the whole world."
Markets are self-regulating, but that regulation has limits. Dumping all of Eden's wealth at once would shatter that balance. But it didn't matter. Just like in the timeline where Eden joined MOTH, Himeko's "Great Fire" would end up balancing the global books anyway.
"Great Britain?" Eden blinked. "I've never heard of that name."
Oh, right. There's no 'Great Britain' here, just 'Europe.' Trash dream, so many bugs.
"Oh, Eden probably doesn't know yet—the island of Great Britain has been wiped off the map."
Eden held her forehead. I haven't woken up yet, or this girl is having a psychotic break. My stalker can't be a mental patient... though few sasaengs are sane to begin with.
Elysia looked at her "sweet but naive" best friend who knew nothing, letting out a sigh of frustration.
"Oh! Even if this is a labor of love so cheap they can't afford voice actors, the attention to detail is amazing."
"They've even filled in a lot of the plot points that were glossed over in the original story."
Kaito walked through the halls of Great Britain's highest laboratory. Invisible Imaginary hands emerged from the sterile, cold steel walls, turning every obstacle into experience point drops. By the time he reached the central hub, only one or two people were left alive in the entire facility.
Their faces were blurred, but Kaito easily pulled up the experiment logs. Faced with a password prompt, he simply dragged a nearby "Elite Mob" over and pressed his face against the scanner.
It was a game mechanic. Even though the developer was too lazy to make a face model, the moment the NPC touched the screen, the highest level of authorization was granted.
"As if it would be this easy in real life," Kaito muttered. "Face ID without a password? So fake."
Having finished, he casually tossed the man behind him. The elite's body dissolved into the Void the moment it hit the wall, leaving only a single experience point that zoomed into Kaito's body.
"Let's see... Siberian Tundra."
It wasn't hard to find. Normally, system logs go in chronological order, but this "dog" developer hadn't done that. The latest entry was from one day ago:
[March 17: Subject ## has survived once again. Curses, hatred... and friendship have become the hopes sustaining her.]
Skipping a mountain of meaningless data, Kaito scrolled up quickly.
[March 16: Subject seems to be failing. Useless trash.]
Finally, his eyes landed on an entry from a month ago:
[February 14: Subject ## escaped. Due to constant Honkai injections, she bent the bars and fled with several other subjects. Fortunately, we had captured many Honkai Beasts beforehand. Although all the beasts died in the pursuit, the subject was recaptured. She displayed extraordinary power. Her companions, however, were quite ordinary—though the 'power of friendship' seems to allow the subject to endure the experiments for longer.]
Kaito: "..."
"I take it back. This is just a direct copy of Sirin's plot, but they added the 'Survivor'—the player—into the mix."
Wait, was that girl in the tower?
He had zero recollection of her. She had probably already become part of his XP bar.
"If a plot character gets killed by the player, can you even continue the main quest?"
