Even during dinner, Elysia couldn't keep her mouth still.

"Kaito." She tapped the rim of her bowl lightly with her chopsticks. "I haven't been idle today. I've thought it over and finally settled on our family rules."

You've been plenty idle then!

Kaito critiqued her silently. He had just picked up a piece of meat, but he paused mid-air and flicked his wrist to drop it into Elysia's bowl.

"You've worked hard, Sis. Eat up."

He'd listen to what the rules were first before deciding whether to eat his own share. That way, if she pointed at him later and said he was "living off her dime," he could just spread his hands and say, "I didn't eat a thing."

"Rule number one: You must be devoted in love."

Kaito recalled the time his sister tricked him into pressing his thumbprint on a "Community Registration Form," only to tell him later it was a Marriage Registration. Then, just as his teenage brain was filling with fantasies of the future, she staged a "relationship breakdown" that same afternoon, ruthlessly splitting his life savings in half.

Devoted?

If it weren't for the gender restrictions, Kaito would have wanted to start his career using that exact method. First, pursue Boss Bronya, then the heiress Kiana, and finally the young miss of the MEI Corporation, Raiden Mei—a triple-threat asset liquidation!

Though the most likely outcome would be Auntie Cocolia, Uncle Ryoma, or Schicksal stuffing him into a sack and tossing him into the Huangpu River.

Elysia cleared her throat twice. Once she was sure she had Kaito's attention, she continued enthusiastically.

"Rule number two: We share a revolutionary bond from our years of leaning on each other. If either of us likes someone in the future, we must tell the other person, let them evaluate the choice, and unconditionally—I mean sternly—listen to their advice."

Otherwise, the other person would be left in the dark while the family member they grew up with suddenly abandoned their little home... that kind of future was simply too terrifying.

This was the rule Elysia had thought up the moment she finished scaring Sakura earlier that day.

Kaito's mind immediately flashed back to: [One Big Happy Family].

"My advice is: quit that group chat and stop hanging out with those bad influences," Kaito suggested earnestly.

It was exactly because Elysia spent all day chatting with those twelve "fox friends" that she was turning from a perfectly cheerful, vibrant beauty into a mental case.

Elysia: "..."

"First of all, I'm not dating them. Secondly, the 'One Big Happy Family' group is already gone."

"HUH?!!"

Kaito froze. For real? Did his sister actually have the resolve to do that?

Elysia pulled out her phone like a magician and flicked to her messaging app. Now, there was only [Golden Courtyard (13)].

Kaito: "..."

Fine. He'd wait until after she saw the psychiatrist; things would surely get better. Kaito wasn't an idiot; countless movie plots had taught him that forced behavior never works—it only pushes a mental patient to further extremes.

"Rule number three~"

"There's a third one!?"

Seriously, Sis, are you really this bored all day? I'm starting to get jealous.

Elysia pondered for a moment and waved her hand dismissively. "Hmm... let's keep the third one in reserve for now. We'll discuss it later."

She seemed to feel the timing wasn't quite right yet.

"Let's eat! I'm sure I'll have a good dream tonight!" A bright smile bloomed on her face.

Returning the favor, she picked out the leanest, most succulent piece of meat and put it in the bowl of her brother, who currently seemed more reliable than herself.

Kaito shoveled food into his mouth in silence. Just eat. No point arguing with her. Once he got to "mow some lawn" later, his mood would improve significantly.

Violent catharsis was always second only to crying in a loved one's arms—and it was more direct, with fewer prerequisites. Kaito was starting to feel grateful for modern technology.

As he chewed, his final thought was: Sis's cooking... it really has... regressed.

After dinner, Kaito dutifully went to wash the dishes. As the cold water rushed over his hands, his thoughts drifted to a strange place.

Could my sister's mental issues be caused by just being bored at home?

Elysia even had time to draft family rules. What did she actually do all day? She couldn't possibly be binge-watching shows and surfing the web twenty-four hours a day.

Having finished his chores, Kaito stepped out of the kitchen and noticed his sister was still in the living room, giggling at something happy she'd found online.

He instinctively slowed his pace.

His fingertips were icy after being in the cold water for so long. He crept up behind her, and his freezing palms—like a vengeful spirit reaching out from the underworld—clamped firmly onto Elysia's neck.

"Eep—!"

With a short shriek, Elysia bolted like a startled rabbit, sliding off the sofa to sit on the carpet. She clutched a pillow and looked up at him with a pout, her eyes full of grievance.

Kaito shrugged, a genuine smile finally appearing on his face for the first time that night. His mood was visibly brighter.

"Have a good dream, Sis."

As he turned to head to his room, he faintly heard a soft, nasal mumble from behind: "Goodnight, Kaito."

He looked back to see his sister with her head bowed, her pink hair falling forward to hide her expression.

"Goodnight, Sis."

He closed his door and locked it from the inside.

He didn't really have a logical reason for it; a gut instinct just told him to do it.

Herrscher: Kaito

Level: 15

Skills: Twin Familiars, Decree of the Void, Elemental Shield 3

Attributes: Attack Speed 5, Decree 5

[Elemental Shield 3]: Grants "Unstoppable" status while the shield is active.

Even though he complained about Great Britain, it still had a decent population base.

The main quest of the game was currently stuck... Apparently, he had "casually" slaughtered a key plot character. He blamed the developer—why would you set friendly fire on a vital character, give them experience points, and provide zero warnings?

"Priority one: evolve the Elemental Shield. Then, find that boss and get my revenge."

Great Britain.

Inside a solemn cathedral, a priest was murmuring prayers, perhaps begging God to lend a hand. An invisible Spear of Subspace tore through the barriers of reality, claiming a splash of crimson blood.

A Honkai Beast was birthed instantly, devouring the experience points and seeking out other living souls nearby.

Kaito rubbed his palms together. This scene was playing out across various parts of the country. He was becoming more convinced that the dev had forced him to lose the first stage by withholding the "Familiar" traits—picking up XP manually was way too slow.

But—

"Found you."

"Honkai Beasts?"

Sakura retreated quickly. Her original target had already been pierced by a spear. A weak Honkai Beast was born from the remains, automatically locking onto the only living person in the room.

"Why is a large-scale Honkai outbreak happening in Europe?" Sakura frowned, her focus sharp.

A dazzling flash of steel followed. she didn't hold a post-strike pose, nor did she slowly sheathe her blade; her grip on the sword only tightened.

"This feeling of being watched... who is it?"

The empty hall was silent save for the remains of the Honkai Beast. The fallen corpse slowly bled out. It was deathly quiet, yet it felt as though something was there.

Through a rift in the Void, a pair of pure white eyes snapped open the moment the beast died, locking onto the pink-haired girl whose head was glowing with a red aura, labeled as a "Boss."
