"Don't worry, Sis! I'm the best laborer you ever personally raised," Rin joked. Ignoring Sakura's look of resignation, she set aside the magazine featuring the model Kalpas and gave her a playful smile.
"Gotta go! I'm heading to the interview now." Her pace was light, almost skipping as she merged into the crowd flowing into the towering office building.
Watching her sister's energetic figure disappear behind the revolving doors, Sakura sighed softly. She didn't doubt Rin's skills—the girl had followed her around during university and mastered C and Java—but the professional world was far more complex than code. The interview stage was never as simple as Rin thought.
[One Big Happy Family]
Her finger slid across the screen as she opened the relatively quiet group chat.
Sakura: "Watching my little sister head off to her interview and enter society... I suddenly feel a bit emotional. [Cat Wiping Tears.jpg]"
Elysia: "Right, right! I always feel like as soon as the little ones leave your sight, they become strangers so quickly! They aren't clingy anymore! ♪"
Sakura: "..."
The small spark of sentimentality she'd felt was instantly scattered by the terrifying future Elysia described.
Elysia: "Kaito and I were only apart for four years during university, and I feel like my brother has turned into a completely different person. He isn't as easy to trick as he was when he was little."
Sakura: "..."
The others in the group didn't chime in; after all, only Elysia and Sakura had siblings close to their own age.
Elysia: "And then, the child you watched grow up leaves your sight entirely. They shed the mask they wear at home and gradually transform into their true inner selves. And then—they never come back! ★"
Sakura: "..."
Aponia: "Boys and girls are a bit different, but... Sakura, are you alright?"
Elysia: "It's all the same. Back in high school, I even tricked Kaito into signing a marriage application. He even pressed his thumbprint! Now that boy isn't close to me at all. [Crying Cat Face.jpg]"
Though, on that same afternoon, Elysia had cited "irreconcilable differences" as a reason to make him sign a divorce registration form. She split Kaito's savings in half to use as the startup capital for her "Miss Pink Elf" account.
She successfully turned that money into more money, covering the university tuition for both of them... though that entire operation had left eighteen-year-old Kaito quite traumatized.
Aponia: "?"
Sakura: "I'm going to work. Talk later."
Even though she had taken the day off, she felt a bit suffocated right now.
Elysia: "Entering society is so annoying; everyone has less and less time to hang out... But! Everyone must stay happy! ♪"
Sakura: "..."
She silently opened her settings and put the group chat on Mute.
Aponia: "I feel fine. In my private clinic, the patients are surprisingly easy to talk to. [Cat Pondering.jpg]"
Meanwhile, inside the building.
Fresh out of university, Rin radiated youthful energy. Her optimistic personality meant she wasn't particularly nervous about the upcoming interview. Seeing a long queue at the elevator, she hummed a tune and turned toward the stairs—walking was fine; it was good exercise.
She occasionally drifted into a daydream about the future, her eyes squinting as she smiled to herself, letting out a soft hum.
Thump—
"Sorry! Are you okay?"
A slightly anxious male voice rang out, and a firm hand steadily caught her as she stumbled from the collision. Kaito quickly held the girl steady, apologizing immediately to avoid trouble.
He was in a hurry to get to the airport for the pickup. An ice princess! A melancholy literary girl! Even if Boss Bronya portrayed her as a dorky "dummy" in the games.
"I... I..." Rin blinked, a bit dazed.
At this sudden close distance, sunlight streamed through the window, splashing across the young man's face and giving him a golden outline.
Could it be? Could it be! Am I the female lead of an idol drama?!
"My name is Rin," she said, her voice softening.
Once she was steady, Rin stood frozen on the spot, watching this man—who looked incredibly handsome even in office attire—bend down to pick up her resume and documents.
"I'm Kaito. I'm very sorry for bumping into you." Kaito didn't say much else, organizing the papers neatly before handing them back to her.
Rin suddenly snapped back to reality. "Are you here for an interview too?"
A thought struck her: Surely no one dresses this sharply just for a regular workday? She realized he might be her competition. Her heart instantly turned as hard as iron.
Hmph, I'm not afraid of competitors. I have work experience—as a fresh graduate!
"An interview?" Kaito instinctively looked her over. "Good luck. Maybe we'll be colleagues in the future."
Since Bronya had gone independent from Anti-Entropy, leaving only the staff of Reason Studios, they definitely lacked the manpower to start a massive new project. Having said that, he gave a faint, apologetic smile and hurried down the stairs.
He couldn't wait any longer. That one brief glimpse during university had left too deep an impression on him.
Rin's eyes were sharp. She watched the man reach the bottom floor and walk side-by-side with a beautiful girl with cascading silver hair before curling her lip.
"Whatever. Interview first. Sis is waiting downstairs." She knew reality was never an idol drama.
Bronya asked casually, "Who was that girl?"
Kaito replied just as casually, "An applicant. She seemed very energetic."
Energetic. Hearing that word made Bronya think of Kiana... and Kaito, who held unrealistic fantasies about her.
"Not taking the motorcycle?"
"You're driving the company car."
As a genius producer, Bronya would never let people look down on her company's scale. If things got tight, she'd just chat with her bestie and ask for a little sponsorship.
"Speaking of which, since this is a personal matter, shouldn't you have picked her up and taken her to your place, Boss?"
Kaito opened the car window. He didn't use the autopilot; the speed steadily climbed from 100 to 120... then 140, 160, 180 km/h.
"Since she's coming anyway, I'm going to squeeze some labor out of her. She helped with the original game, after all."
She sat in the passenger seat with the window open, feeling the howling wind and watching the scenery blur past.
As expected of Kiana! Kaito knew that a seemingly cold, melancholy literary girl would surely be incredibly knowledgeable.
While Bronya and Kaito sped toward the airport, Sakura—who remained behind waiting for her sister's good news—sharply caught that brief scene. She watched Kaito leave side-by-side with that silver-haired woman of extraordinary temperament. After a moment of thought, she picked up her phone and unmuted the group chat.
[One Big Happy Family]
Sakura: "[Photo.jpg]"
Sakura uploaded a picture of Kaito and Bronya walking together.
Sakura: "Elysia, I think I found the reason why your brother is so distant."
Sakura: "He's in a relationship."
Elysia: "???"
