Anya began to settle into her new home for who knows how long. She tried the bed of hay and then she fluffed it up and tried it again. It was not what she's used to sleeping on. She looked around the hut to get ideas and checked the blankets. She then looked around to see if she could find some thread. There was nothing in sight. When she peaked outside of her hut, she noticed a beast lady with long black hair wearing a strapless wrap around dress. Anya asked the beast woman nervously, "Do you have some thread?" The beast lady looked confused at first because she didn't recognize Anya. She then looked at the blanket Anya was holding and nodded. The beast woman left and came back with a basket of thread. Anya thanked her and introduced herself.
"I am Doctor Anya, Beast Healer," she said. Anya figured she should keep up the role she used to not get eaten. The beast lady's face lit up when she heard that and said for her to wait. She came back and gave Anya a basket of meat and vegetables. Anya was surprised at the gesture and didn't know what to say. The beast lady said, "please take it, you healed my mate." Anya recalled the other wolfman, Anthony. She looked around and realized he hadn't been seen after. Anthony's mate said, "he had to return to the battlefield to help the rest of the warriors. Today's fight was over hunting rights." Anya gave her a confused expression and so Anthony's wife continued. "It was supposed to be a cease-fighting negotiation between the lions and the wolves, but one lion came back injured halfway through the meeting and war broke out. The wolves were accused of cheap tricks and pretending to want peaceful negotiations."
Anya unconsciously placed her hand on Anthony's wife's shoulder to try to comfort her, and when she did, healing energy began to engulf Anthony's wife. She began to glow and feel rejuvenated. When the process was done Anthony's wife gave Anya a grateful hug and smile. She was about to scream with joy and say thank you, but Anya covered her mouth. She told her to please try to keep it quiet for now. She doesn't know how often she can do that and that she would have to figure out her limit.
Anthony's wife nodded in understanding. Then pressed her fingers together like a duck and nodded. Anya let go of her mouth and apologized for covering her mouth. She then took the baskets inside and placed them on the table. She looked at the meat and wondered how she would eat all of that herself. She was petite and didn't have a lot of room to fit it all. Maybe if she preserved some of it or gave it to another who was more robust than her the meat would not go to waste. Then she looked at her thread and smiled, this was more than enough. There was an abundance of yarn too. She thought of things she could use it for; knitting sweaters, socks, blankets, making a comforter. There were so many possibilities of what she could create with just yarn and thread. She began to sow two sheets together into a large sack. Then she stuffed it with hay she scrunched into a ball and mixed it with some regular hay. It made a thick makeshift mattress. Then she closed it by sowing the ends. Even if she moved in her sleep, the hay would stay together and keep its shape.
She was looking for a stove, but didn't see any. Then she looked out her window to see if she saw Anthony's wife around, but she saw someone cooking outside. That is when she remembered the fire pit next to the hut. That must be how they cook, she thought. Well at least she won't go hungry for a while, but what if she's just getting fatten up for later. She let out a worried look on her face. Anya then smacked her cheeks from going down that rabbit hole.
Later that evening Misty visited Anya's hut and asked cheerfully through the entrance, "How are you settling in?" Anya, who was knitting a sweater for herself, jumped off her seat from the sudden sound of voice that interrupted the silence of her hut. Misty giggled a little and said, "You're jumpy like a cat." Anya looked back and asked, "there's cats here?" Misty shook her head, "Cats are mystical creatures, they come and go among the different packs. They are not a nuisance. We tried to sway one into having a permanent home with us, but it ran off. They're rarely seen now." Misty looked up at the sky and leaned on the wall a little. "The elder pack members said that cats are free because they have homes in the heavens. They only come down to see how we are doing. I guess they just watch over us." Anya was thinking about the street cats and feral ones that roam the town sometimes. Anya thought "So this is where they come when they go missing for days. Even after I leave food outside for them. They're here too." She wasn't going to burst their bubbles, after all those cats meant something to them. Then Misty remembered the reason why she was there. She was to take her to the pack's gathering court. She said excitedly, "come, we're late," and grabbed her hand. Then she pulled her out of the hut not waiting for a reply.
"Late for what?" Anya said as she was being dragged out of the hut towards a large group of beastpeople. She thought to herself, "oh this must be it. I'm going to be their meal." Anya began to sweat a little from nervousness.
Misty brought Anya to a stage and said, "Here she is!" to her mate. The crowd cheered. Among the crowd was Anthony's wife who was also happy to see her. Earlier she told Misty of her interaction with Anya and what she was told to keep quiet. They happened to be best friends, of course she would tell her. Anthony's wife was overflowing with joy that she began to hop in place at the sight of Anya.
Then Misty announced, "The Beast Healer has been sent from the heavens, please do not burden her with too many requests. Only by appointment, talk to Martha who has offered to manage her schedule. Please respect the beast healer and don't visit her hut for healing. Stick to the building we are preparing for her." Then Chief Alpha said extremely loud, "that is not a request! It's a command!" Everyone gave awkward smiles because they were both afraid of Alpha and happy at the same time for the healer.
They had a chair for Anya to sit and meet everyone so they could all familiarize themselves with her scent. But to everyone's surprise, she smelled like their pup. Misty looked at Anya and told her, "you smell like you are everyone's baby. That instinctively triggers their want to protect you. Is this one of your powers to maintain your safety?" Anya was nervous, she sniffed herself and didn't notice anything different. She looked at Misty and said, "this is how I always smell." Misty awed in amazement.
Anthony's wife, Martha, was going around telling people where the healing building was going to be. The banquet to welcome Anya and officially introduce her to everyone. It was something Misty prepared because she wanted her pack to release some tension and maybe this was the perfect excuse to get the situation out of their heads. Anya leaned in to ask, "I noticed some looked stressed still, is there something that matters?" Anya nodded and replied, 'we don't know when the next fight will break out, so it keeps everyone on alert."
