Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: News from the Hospital

"Twenty thousand??"

That's nearly as much as scrapping a piece of equipment in the lab...

Luca, who had been excited about Baymax's combat power, twitched his mouth upon hearing this.

Being rich didn't mean he could be wasteful.

But the experiment had already proven enough.

Even without the carbon fiber external armor, Baymax's combat capabilities weren't significantly affected, aside from some slight movement deformation due to its inflatable body.

After all, Baymax's own mechanical power was immense, and the carbon fiber composite skeleton provided decent defense.

Plus, considering balance and the need to carry heavy loads during nursing work, the strength and output of its hands and feet were way beyond standard.

The current Baymax was already an excellent combat robot with a very deceptive appearance.

However, there are still many exposed circuits and critical equipment on the skeleton. Relying on external armor for protection is safer. I wonder if all the armor components will be printed by the time I get back tonight.

It's a pity that although I imported motion modules for firearms, Baymax's hands are too big. I'll need to customize special firearms for it later.

In fact, Luca was already considering whether to develop a batch of purely combat-oriented bodyguard robots based on Baymax's prototype.

After all, while Baymax was certainly more mature in healthcare work...

The medical equipment field was deep and treacherous. His company had no prior connections in this area, and rashly entering it could lead to backlash.

Hmm, all of this will have to wait until I fully control the company.

Just as Luca was thinking this, the company's bulletproof car pulled up outside the villa courtyard.

"Master, when shall we depart?"

"We leave now!"

....

New York, Brooklyn. Wellhaven Hospital.

Although this hospital didn't have the long history of New York Presbyterian or overall excellence across all medical fields...

In terms of neurology and neurosurgery, it was absolutely a leader in the entire United States.

Otherwise, Luca wouldn't have specifically transferred his mother here.

In the VIP ward, Shamila was discussing Gina's condition over the past two days with her attending physician.

Luca, meanwhile, stood quietly by the side, gazing at his mother.

Although Gina was in her forties, her delicate features made her look more than ten years younger than her actual age.

Especially now, in a coma, she had lost the imposing aura of a business tycoon she usually carried, replaced by a sense of tranquility and fragility.

If one didn't know her true background, it would be hard to imagine that she was once a powerful female warrior who dominated the chaotic battlefields of Sokovia. Let alone believe that she had taken out three Chitauri soldiers consecutively before falling into a coma.

To go this far for a cuckoo like me... I bet you'd regret it if you knew the truth.

While Luca stared at Gina in a daze, Shamila's voice suddenly rose, drawing his attention.

"So, Dr. West, you mean there's a possibility for the Madam to recover now?"

Shamila stared excitedly at the doctor, wanting to grab his arm to ask more but fearing it would be too abrupt, so she just clenched her fists in the air.

Dr. West, Gina's attending physician, saw Shamila's reaction and glanced subtly at Luca, who was also looking over. He then explained somewhat awkwardly.

"Uh... it's just a possibility. Since several families with severe cases of the same condition have chosen to give up treatment, the hospital has communicated with the families and plans to form an expert panel to conduct experimental treatments on these patients."

"If the treatment is ultimately successful, perhaps Mrs. Aurantius can also receive effective treatment."

Luca's mouth twitched upon hearing this.

This so-called "expert panel experimental treatment" sounded nice, but the key word was "experimental."

Conducting such procedures was even more complicated and tedious than signing organ donation forms.

It was basically human experimentation. Normally, no hospital would take such a huge risk to do something like this.

"Does Dr. West know what the success rate of this experimental treatment is?"

Shamila asked this. Although Luca had said last night that there might be a cure for Gina, obviously, the hospital held more authority in her mind.

However, Dr. West became even more awkward when answering her question.

"This... well. The expert panel is just starting to be organized, so no one can be sure about the specific success rate. But this panel will invite Dr. Strange and several other big names in neurology, so the expertise is guaranteed."

Hearing this, Luca frowned immediately.

When his mother was first diagnosed, he had asked someone to invite Stephen Strange, but he was flatly rejected without even meeting the man.

Why would he decide to wade into this muddy water now?

Calling it "muddy water" was an understatement. Judging by Dr. West's meaning, this so-called expert panel didn't even have a treatment plan, let alone be formally established.

Under these circumstances, the probability of finding an effective treatment in a short time was extremely low. Combined with the dubious label of "experimental treatment," who had the clout to move that incredibly arrogant man?

Before becoming Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange wasn't exactly a philanthropist.

To maintain his surgical success rate and reputation in the medical field, he usually wouldn't touch surgeries he wasn't confident in.

Of course, with Strange's skill level, if he thought a surgery had no chance of success, it was basically a death sentence.

So...

"May I ask, who proposed initiating this expert panel?"

Luca stared unblinkingly at Dr. West, waiting for his answer.

Facing the boy's questioning gaze, Dr. West's eyes flickered slightly, but he quickly composed himself.

"I don't know. But even if I did, I couldn't reveal it to you."

Luca stared at him for a moment longer, then nodded calmly.

"Thank you, Dr. West, for informing us of this news."

"Now, I'd like to spend some time alone with my mother."

Saying this, Luca signaled Shamila to show the guest out. He turned his back on the doctor and brought out the medical case containing Baymax.
