Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: I Am a Robot

"Master, do you really want to track that person yourself? What if..."

Shamila genuinely didn't want Luca to take any more risks.

Even though these intruders were easily dealt with today, the fact that the enemy dared to send gunmen so blatantly to attack the villa meant they were serious. If they tracked the enemy all the way back to their lair...

If anything happens to the young master, how will I explain it to the Madam!

In this situation, Shamila believed the best solution was to call the police and seek protection.

As for retaliation after finding the mastermind, she and the assassination squad could handle it.

However, Luca shook his head again upon hearing this.

He tapped the [Tracking Glasses] lightly, noticing the tracker moving away faster. The surviving intruder had likely reached their vehicle and fled. He then spoke.

"Auntie Shamila, we're just following from a distance. Whether we act in the end is still undecided."

"Time is tight. Go get the car."

Seeing this, although Shamila still looked reluctant, she obeyed and turned toward the underground garage.

But she secretly decided...

Once they tracked down the location, she would ensure Master Luca didn't take any rash risks.

While Shamila went to get the car, Luca prepared to finish off the remaining unconscious intruders one by one.

But after some consideration... Although the "Castle Doctrine" meant Luca could legally kill all of them without issue, he decided to keep two of the more "pleasing to the eye" ones alive.

Firstly, if he didn't get any intel from tracking the escapee, he could come back and interrogate them. Secondly, if the police got involved later, it would be easier to get solid testimony.

Given the effect of the [Dominator]'s non-lethal electromagnetic stun rounds, the two lucky survivors wouldn't be waking up tonight. There was plenty of time to interrogate them after Luca returned.

Of course, if they could catch the mastermind by tracking the target now, that would be even better.

However, while dealing with the intruders, Luca was surprised to discover something.

Tonight, apart from the one he intentionally let go and the four Shamila killed, all the other intruders were merely unconscious.

Most of them only had minor scrapes aside from being knocked out by impact. The unluckiest one only had a minor fracture in his calf.

And the common thread among them was that they were all taken down by Baymax.

Turning to look at Baymax, whose eyes still glowed red, Luca sighed inwardly and ordered.

"Baymax, deactivate Destroy Mode."

"Received... Hello, Luca."

Whether due to body posture or simply the absence of the red glow, Baymax's aura suddenly changed.

Even those eyes, which should have been just two black cameras, seemed much clearer.

"I violated my healthcare protocols. I... harmed humans."

Baymax's voice remained flat.

But for a moment, Luca inexplicably heard a trace of... grievance?

"Baymax, you did it to protect me."

Luca was slightly stunned after speaking. He hadn't expected to say such a thing.

Especially to a robot.

The scene fell into silence for a moment. Finally, Baymax, the robot with "unreadable emotions," spoke first.

"The best medical care is to prevent all possible dangers before the patient gets injured."

As it spoke, Baymax extended a large hand and gave Luca a thumbs-up.

However, this gesture made Luca even more silent.

In fact, Luca had realized it the moment he found all the enemies "neutralized" by Baymax were merely unconscious.

Even in "Destroy Mode," Baymax had been holding back as much as possible to avoid harming humans.

Of course, this was also related to Luca's vague commands like "neutralize enemies," "attack," and "throw tree." Baymax hadn't violated his orders.

Luca knew very well that if he had ordered "kill enemies," Baymax would have executed it without hesitation due to the "Zeroth Law."

But...

Is that really necessary?

To make this goofy marshmallow with an emotion module take human lives personally?

"Forget it. This is fine. Baymax, just protect my life and health from now on." Let others handle the killing.

Luca hadn't expected that he, a bastard who wouldn't hesitate to kill when necessary, would want to protect a robot's "innocence."

Shaking his head with a self-deprecating smile, Luca reached out and gently patted the scratched armor on Baymax.

Baymax, still puzzled, tilted its head slightly, blinking its eyes as it watched Luca pat the back of its hand.

"Is Luca concerned about me? I am a robot; I do not require psychological counseling." (●—●)

Hearing this, Luca smiled again.

But compared to his self-deprecating smile earlier, this one was much more natural.

Tsk~ This guy says he's a robot, but his emotions are richer than many humans~

While Luca was mentally teasing Baymax, Shamila drove the car out of the garage.

Considering the potential danger, she chose the bulletproof Cadillac the company had sent earlier.

However, this posed a problem: squeezing Baymax's bulk into the car.

Deflating and returning to the case would be fine.

But if a sudden battle broke out, and an unarmored Baymax got damaged, Luca would have nowhere to cry.

Considering they would be tracking the target through potentially crowded areas...

After a brief hesitation, Luca dismantled a few larger armor pieces from Baymax and stuffed them into the trunk.

"Baymax, squeeze! Deflate a little! Almost there! Okay~"

Shamila, watching the huge white fatty filling the entire back seat from the driver's mirror, twitched her mouth imperceptibly but remained silent.

Hope no one checks the car on the way...

Luca got back in the car and patted Baymax in the back seat.

Then Shamila stepped on the gas, driving toward Manhattan.
