Chapter 30: The End of the Beast Tide! The Butterfly Effect!
Without the Beast King's command, the beast tide quickly became agitated and violent.
They swarmed toward the depths of the mountain range, and the earth began to tremble.
Ren turned his head to glance at the bloody pulp of meat—completely unrecognizable as the Beast King.
He crossed his fists in front of his chest.
As countless magical beasts poured into the mountains, Ren swung a fierce, heavy punch to his side.
The mountain range shook violently. The structure of the mountains began to crack, and the ground split open amidst the intense tremors.
The magical beasts roared, but they were powerless against the massive falling rocks and plummeted into the fissures one after another.
Giant boulders crashed down, crushing countless beasts to death. Those that couldn't stop their momentum followed the others, falling headlong into the abyss.
In front of the town walls, Zeus breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the beast tide turn and rush frantically toward the mountains.
Even with the bottomless abyss intercepting the tide, the beasts had nearly broken through into the town.
"It must be the Master's doing, forcing all those beasts to surge back toward the mountains!"
Watching the retreating backs of the panicked beasts, Prometheus spoke with a serious gaze as he floated beside Zeus.
"Then let's hurry and go support the Master!"
Hearing Prometheus, Zeus, his body crackling with electricity, shouted eagerly.
Exchanging a glance, Zeus, Prometheus, and Napoleon flew toward the mountains.
Flying along the path, they saw countless corpses of magical beasts.
Zeus couldn't help but be shocked.
Finally reaching the depths of the mountains, they saw Ren slaughtering the beast tide in a frenzy, swinging his fists to vibrate and kill the surrounding monsters.
"Fire from the Sky!"
Prometheus spat out countless fireballs, spraying them into the tide of beasts surging toward Ren on the ground.
Landing among the herd, the fireballs exploded instantly, the continuous blasts echoing through the mountains.
"Thunderous Judgment!"
Zeus didn't want to be outdone. Lightning danced wildly in the sky, turning into ferocious lightning snakes that bombarded the ground.
Amidst the beast tide, Ren looked up and noticed Zeus in the sky.
Stomping hard on the ground, he leaped up.
He landed straight on Zeus's back.
"Master, are you alright?!"
Seeing Ren, Zeus, still crackling with lightning, asked hurriedly.
The reason was that Ren's current appearance was terrifying.
He was bathed in blood, and the thick scent of gore made Zeus's heart jump.
Ren shook his head and didn't answer.
Looking down at the endless beast tide stretching out of sight, Ren finally understood why this was a Ten-Year Quest.
With a beast tide of this level, an ordinary S-Class mage would have long been trampled to death within the swarm.
A glowing sphere appeared around Ren's fist, and he smashed a heavy strike into the air beside him.
Space shattered. The mountain range began to collapse.
Countless magical beasts were buried under the mountain rubble.
Ren put his full power into this one strike, completely shattering the mountain range.
The earthquake covered the entire range, and violent tremors could be felt even inside the town.
Houses collapsed, and quite a few people were buried under the debris.
Some magical beasts that weren't buried by rocks were vibrated to death the instant the shockwave hit.
Blood and beast corpses were everywhere throughout the mountains.
A thick smell of blood wafted through the ruined landscape.
This single strike had instantly killed the beasts within the mountains.
Exhaling a heavy breath of turbid air, Ren shook off the dried blood on his body, feeling sticky and uncomfortable all over.
Under the perception of his Observation Haki, there were almost no living things left in the mountains.
Most of the beasts buried deep under the rubble were heavily injured.
Just to be safe, Ren punched the air with another heavy strike.
Another violent tremor followed. The mountain range seemed to ripple, undulating like waves.
Ren sat down heavily on Zeus. The continuous fighting had left him feeling a bit exhausted.
"Let's go back."
Breathing out, Ren patted Zeus.
"Yes, Master!"
Hearing Ren's command, Zeus turned and flew toward Gilto.
In the town, quite a few houses had been shaken down.
Many people suffered injuries of varying degrees, but fortunately, no one had died.
Back in town, Ren found the mayor, who was comforting the residents.
Seeing the blood-soaked Ren, the mayor was startled at first.
But after hearing that Ren had resolved the beast tide and killed the Beast King, the man fell to his knees in front of Ren, weeping bitterly.
Leaving the cleanup work to the mayor, Ren returned to where he was staying.
Luckily, the inn hadn't collapsed from the earlier tremors. Ren went back to his room and took a bath, washing away the sticky blood on his body.
After everything was settled, Ren began his journey home.
Sitting on Zeus, flying toward the train station in the city, Ren rested his hands behind his head.
Before long, Ren fell asleep on Zeus's back.
To let Ren sleep well, Zeus specifically slowed down.
Two days later, Ren returned to Magnolia.
Getting off the train, Ren let out a long breath, stretched his body, and walked toward Fairy Tail.
Strolling through Magnolia, residents who saw Ren smiled kindly at him.
"Hey! Ren-nii!"
Walking down the street, a familiar voice suddenly came from behind.
Ren turned around and saw Lisanna and Mirajane behind him.
Ren turned fully, a smile on his face as he waved to Lisanna.
"Yo, Lisanna. Where are you going?"
"Mira-nee is taking me out on a request. But Elfman-nii isn't coming."
Lisanna stuck out her tongue and ran quickly to Ren's side.
Even though Ren had beaten Mirajane into heavy injuries during that mage trial, Lisanna didn't hold a grudge against him for it.
"A request?"
Ren raised an eyebrow and asked curiously, looking at the silent Mirajane beside her. "What request? Is it dangerous?"
Mirajane glared, lifting her head proudly as she said to Ren, "None of your business. I'm an S-Class mage. Even if it's dangerous, I can handle it!"
Seeing Mirajane acting all high and mighty, Ren rolled his eyes and looked at Lisanna instead.
Lisanna giggled and said to Ren, "It's a request to subjugate bandits. But it's not an S-Class request. Mira-nee wants to let Elfman-nii get some practice!"
Hearing this, Ren felt relieved.
Ren was worried that because of his presence, Mirajane had become an S-Class mage early and might go on that Beast King subjugation quest (The Beast) prematurely.
