Chapter 36: You Think You're Qualified to Joke with Me?
Reaching out to pat the frog on the shoulder, Ren nodded and said, "No problem."
Then he turned his head and shouted to Erza behind him.
"Erza, the Council member wants to throw you in jail."
As Ren's words fell, everyone present was confused about what Ren was doing.
Some people hurriedly shouted at Ren, "Ren, what are you doing?!"
"You can't let them take Erza!"
"Mr. Ren, you can't let Miss Erza be taken away!"
Lucy even reached out to block Erza, looking at Ren's face with fear in her eyes.
Ignoring the guild members' words, Ren finished speaking and turned back to the frog, smiling. "Actually, there was an accomplice in destroying the train and the station. I suggest you arrest them together."
The frog's eyes lit up, and he nodded hurriedly to Ren. "Thank you so much, Lord Ren! I will definitely report this to the Council!"
"Could Lord Ren please tell me who Erza's accomplice is?"
The frog's eyes were excited, completely forgetting the terrifying pressure from earlier.
"Me!"
Ren looked at the frog with a smile, slowly straightened up, and stared at him calmly.
As Ren's voice fell, the smile on the frog's face instantly froze.
The step he was about to take stopped abruptly.
Cold sweat dripped slowly from the frog's forehead.
Swallowing hard, the frog forced a smile at Ren and stammered, "Lord Ren, don't... don't joke with this humble one."
Ren's smiling face suddenly turned cold, his chilling gaze completely devoid of emotion.
"Do you think you're qualified to joke with me?"
Ren's eyes were icy as he looked down at the frog in front of him.
As Ren's words fell, a terrifying pressure instantly swept through the entire square.
The frog instantly felt as if a mountain were pressing down on him.
His legs went weak, and he flopped to his knees in front of Ren with a thud.
Trembling all over, cold sweat poured down the frog's body.
Suppressed by that terrifying pressure, the frog instantly recalled the scene from before.
Struggling to look up, he wanted to beg Ren for mercy.
One look at Ren's indifferent eyes, and he suddenly felt as if a sea of blood and corpses lay behind Ren.
In the next instant, under Ren's terrifying Conqueror's Haki, the frog felt as if something was being drawn out of his body.
Grabbing a transparent soul in his hand, Ren tossed it casually to Zeus in the air.
"Go back and tell those useless Council members: if they insist on causing trouble for Fairy Tail, start with me!"
Ren's eyes were utterly indifferent as he spoke to the frog word by word, coldly.
After finishing, the terrifying Conqueror's Haki dissipated.
As Ren's voice fell, the frog's eyes rolled back, and he passed out completely.
Waving to the Council soldiers in the distance, the cold and ruthless look on Ren's face disappeared.
Returning to his previous smiling appearance, he handed the unconscious frog kneeling before him to them.
Smiling, he said, "Make sure to take good care of the Council envoy!"
The soldiers trembled all over, nodding hurriedly in agreement.
After sending away the Council envoys, Ren turned to look at the silent crowd.
Ren smiled and said, "Hey, hey, hey, you didn't really think I was going to hand Erza over to them, did you?"
Hearing Ren's familiar tone, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Ren's appearance just now had shocked them greatly.
The Ren from a moment ago was completely different from before; they had never seen him like that.
"Scared me to death, Ren. I thought you were really going to sell Erza out."
"I knew Ren couldn't possibly betray a comrade."
"You were shouting the loudest just now!"
"Nonsense! Don't slander me!"
Looking at Ren's familiar face, everyone started teasing him.
Only Erza looked worried, walking up to Ren with concern in her eyes, asking, "Is it really okay?"
Ren shook his head and laughed. "Don't worry. The Council is just looking for trouble, trying to make things difficult for Fairy Tail."
"They won't go to war over such a small matter."
A cold glint flashed in Ren's eyes and disappeared, but Erza didn't notice.
At this time, Natsu, who had been knocked out by Erza's punch, also woke up.
Full of anger, he rushed out of the crowd, scanning the surroundings.
"Hey, what are you looking for?"
Seeing Natsu like this, his natural enemy Gray shouted at him with disgust.
"Where are those Council bastards?! Why do they want to take Erza away!"
Gray rolled his eyes. Seeing Natsu's furious gaze, he said helplessly, "What the hell are you doing? They're all gone."
Natsu paused, looking at Erza's back not far away.
Stopping, he scratched his head and asked curiously, "But didn't they want to take Erza away? Why did they leave?"
"What are you talking about?! With Ren here, how could they possibly take Erza away!"
Gray rolled his eyes at Natsu, crossing his arms.
Hearing Gray's words, Natsu felt it made sense and nodded.
"Perverted bastard! Why are you stripped down to your underwear again while talking!"
"Huh? Idiot flame-breath bastard!"
Barely two sentences in, and they were at each other's throats.
Watching the two about to fight, Erza suddenly appeared beside them without them realizing.
"You are not allowed to attack your comrades!"
Accompanying a critical punch to each of them, the two obediently stopped.
Shoulder to shoulder, they forced smiles in front of Erza.
"We are good friends! Erza!"
"That's right, that's right! We are family!"
Erza nodded with satisfaction, watching their retreating backs, shoulder to shoulder, contentedly. She said logically, "That's right. We are all comrades of the same guild, like family!"
Looking at Erza with her hands on her hips, Ren held his forehead helplessly.
That little girl from back then grew up crooked.
Now she's become a disciplinary committee member. Erza used to be so gentle and lovely back then.
