Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Teary Trivia

*Assassin POV*

'Is this couch really enough to cover me? It seems too small for someone of my height. Wait, are those footsteps? She's coming back out, but it's only her. What's the other guy doing? No matter, I should still be able to take them both down. Although I would prefer to take them both at the same time, my artifact should still work on a single target,' the Assassin Nizari thought as they sunk into the bottom of the couch and looked around.

"Hello~, I know you're in here somewhere," Hirune called out. Her voice somehow coming from the roof.

'She's on the roof?! I wasn't told about this!' Nizari thought before rolling her eyes. This still shouldn't be a problem as long as she can find a transparent item to sink into. The couch she sunk into suddenly bounced and squeaked.

"You know, I really don't appreciate intruders. All though I think that's obvious because no one does, what I meant to say was that the second I see you, you die. Got it?"

'Is this the same girl I was sent after? Because she's not acting like how she was described,' Nizari thought as she suddenly phased out of the couch with a dagger and stabbed Hirune in the thigh, getting a quick glance at her before sinking back into it. 'Why's her hair fully silver? And why are her eyes red? Did she move while I got here?'

"Well now you're just dumb. An assassin giving away their location? Weren't you told anything about me?" Hirune cackled as she devoured the couch, Nizari barely flying out of the jaws before they shut.

She snickered, barely keeping in a sly smile, "Yellow King!" Her eyes shifted from red to a golden yellow. A mask forming over her face catching her off guard. This mask being shadowy and foggy, with a bunch of white thoughts in it that seem like eyes stalking you in the dark. Eyes that Nizari couldn't help but staring at before it all went dark.

"Trivia!" A joyous Hirune called out from the darkness with a certain overly excited chime. A bunch of lights suddenly turned on, and Nizari found herself out of her cloak and instead in a business suit and her crimson red hair up in a ponytail. In front of her laid a pedestal with a big red button and a large screen to her left. The same overly excited Hirune stood there in a blue business suit with her fingers interlaced as she yapped to the crowd. To her right and across from her stood another three Hirune's, one with glasses that seemed very knowledgeable, one with an extremely anxious look on her face, and one that seemed bored.

"Okey Dokey then, first question~!" Host Hirune chimed, "What's the name of a Caxine dish that ends with -ito?"

Glasses Hirune slammed the button, "Daoreito!"

Nizari raised an eyebrow and made a large gesture with her arms, "That was made in Caloria! That's in Mesopiana!"

Ding! Ding! Ding! "Good answer niece!" Called out Bored Hirune in a surprisingly energetic voice for how bored she seemed while clapping.

"What is happening?"

Another question popped up on the screen after it showed how many points Glasses Hirune just got. "Alrighty then~!" Host Hirune continued, "How many artifact elements are there?"

Nizari pressed the button and called out, "seventy-seven!"

WOMP! WOMP! "It seems like you're wrong but good guess!"

"But- That's- I-"

Bored Hirune pressed the button, "How's anyone supposed to know that?"

DING! DING! DING! "Sensational answer Boredy!" Host Hirune said as the screen moved onto the next question. "Now what's the name of the most powerful king you've met?"

Nizari slammed her hands on her podium while shaking her head. Anxious Hirune gently pressed her button, "Um... The king in yellow and black?"

"And That's~!" DInG! DiNg! dInG! The dinging kept on going in a distorted manner as the lights flickered. Host Hirune finished, "Correct!" The screen suddenly shattered and rebuilt itself into unimaginable shapes continuously as a gigantic constantly distorting figure of a yellow and black checker pattern pulled its head out of the screen and onto the stage before a bunch of glowing golden eyes popped up all over it, the eyes moving as though they were seven-dimensional shapes.

Her vision suddenly blurred and she saw the gray roof of Hirune's home again. Standing there with her mind shattered, she collapsed onto the floor while drooling and peed herself.

"You- Ugh! Do you have any idea how hard it's going to be to clean that? It really isn't because I just have to mop it but still," Hirune said while taking the mask off, vanishing into the air. "Well, I guess I'll have some level of mercy for the likes of you," Hirune said as she made the devourer jaws appear in her hand while walking over. Then she suddenly collapsed while holding her head as the sound of an incomprehensible whispering of madness echoed in her head,

'a#@t*o)u^%$m!@hadw@33454$%^&%adhdkan!*(#@*@#$@#ndaiwaawd!#G&DEHN @E&g2E72g'

"Namulenza!" Hirune shrieked as her eyes turned purple and the whispering stopped. Her breath shaking, she continued with what she intended to do and used the jaws to devour Nizari's head.

"Okay Tundra! You can come out now," she said while trying to hold back tears and compose herself. Tundra walked out of the room while holding all of the things she'd grabbed and looked at her, her eyes already a little puffy as tears streamed down her face, tears she didn't even seem aware of as she gave him an awkward smile. He put down the stuff on the remaining sofa and sat down next to her, as she hadn't moved from the spot which she had fallen.

"You, okay? What happened?"

She shook her head and kept her lips sealed not wanting to worry him, knowing that the second she said anything about it she'd break down into tears, unaware that she was already crying.

"Hirune, you're crying. Tell me what's wrong?"

Her eyes widened as she felt her cheek for confirmation, which just caused her to start bawling as she felt holding it didn't matter anymore. Tundra panicked for a moment, unsure of what he did wrong to make it worst.

"The- the," Hirune tried to speak but she kept on gasping for air as she did.

"I-I-It's okay! You don't have to tell me now? Is there anything you need?"

She sobbed and pointed at the music box, to which he instantly obliged and brought it over, cranked the lever and opened it for her. The little jingle calming her down a little, as she crawled towards him and wept into his shoulder with her arms around him.

He was caught off guard for a second but quickly snapped out of it and hugged her back, one of his arms running through her hair in a comforting manner, "Shh, it's okay, everything's going to be okay now alright? I'm right here." She dug her face a little deeper into his shoulder.

They sat there for a couple hours as when they left it was already night. Tundra couldn't help but stare at the sky as they walked, never imagining that he'd be the one comforting someone instead of the one putting them at unease.
