Chapter 9 - 09: Silent Knock- One Step Ahead

Sensing the impending danger, the security chief immediately pulled his phone from his pocket and began calling down to his office to request additional backup. But it seemed that at that moment, no one was present inside the office, and no one answered his call. In the very next instant, a horrifying claw tore through the walls of the elevator and lunged toward the chief, and a moment later his mutilated body lay inside the elevator, which had already descended and opened on the first floor. At that time, two guards were standing in front, having rushed there after hearing the sound of the elevator arriving. But before they could understand what was happening, Umbraxos—who had been hiding on the roof of the elevator—ripped open the elevator's ceiling and dropped inside. He hurled the chief's body at the two guards, knocking them both to the ground. Just then, one of the guards opened fire on Umbraxos, and the sound of gunshots alerted every member of the security team present. All of them stormed into the building to stop Umbraxos, but their automatic weapons and bullets proved completely ineffective against him. With every passing moment, he continued killing one guard after another, and within nearly five minutes, every guard present there lay on the ground as lifeless corpses.

"These humans don't know what they think of themselves. How could their tiny weapons ever stand against a demon like me?" Umbraxos muttered to himself. Then he transformed back into the guise of Kathrina and entered the security chief's room to search for any clue about the artifact.

Even after searching for a long time, Umbraxos found nothing that could reveal where the artifact was at present. Just then, the phone in the security chief's office rang, and on the other end was Harry. Disguised as Kathrina, Umbraxos deepened his voice and replied to Harry in the chief's voice.

"Chief, please tell your team to be ready in the morning. I'll come to the office. I've traced the artifact, and we'll meet early tomorrow. The artifact isn't very far from us," Harry said over the phone, believing he was speaking to the chief.

"Okay, sir. But could you tell me the artifact's current location? That way I can inform my team exactly where we need to go, and they can prepare accordingly. If there's a public presence at the location, we won't be able to carry heavy weapons," Kathrina replied, speaking in the chief's voice.

Harry found logic in her words and responded, "Actually, I'm still in the final stage of tracing the artifact. As soon as I get the location, I'll share it on your mobile. By morning, around seven o'clock, we'll move on that location."

"Okay, sir. As you say. But don't tell anyone else about this, because it's possible that someone from within the office itself was involved in stealing the artifact. After all, several of Winston's trusted people are still working in this office," Kathrina said, still in the chief's voice.

"All right, Chief. I won't tell anyone about the artifact's location, but make sure you keep your team ready," Harry said, and with that he disconnected the call.

"Now I'll have to find that security chief's mobile. After so much fighting, how am I supposed to know which corner I tossed the chief's corpse into?" Umbraxos muttered to himself inside Kathrina's room. "That bastard should have told me the artifact's location right now. I could have gone and obtained it immediately and returned to Lord KillWish."

Umbraxos then stood there, thinking and forming his next plan, because he knew the chief was already dead and that the police would arrive here very soon. That meant the news of the chief's death would spread across the entire city within moments, and in such a situation, Harry would never share the location on the chief's phone.

Umbraxos's assumption proved absolutely correct. When the company whose security guards were assigned to protect Olivia Tower received no response from the security team for more than fifteen minutes, they informed the local police station. As a result, once again, police from across the city began rushing toward Olivia Tower. Umbraxos watched all of this from a distance, sitting on a perch, observing with his own eyes.

On the other hand, Victoria and the Truth Fairy were sound asleep in their room, the heater turned on, enjoying a peaceful rest, completely unaware that the coming day was going to be far more hectic for them.

As morning arrived, Victoria bathed and changed as she usually did, then came downstairs to have breakfast with her family. But she was deeply surprised to find that no one was present there today.

"Mom? David? Daniel? Where are all of you?" Victoria called out, sitting down on a chair at the dining table.

"Sorry, ma'am. Madam Olivia went to the police headquarters early this morning with your father, and Madam Olivia sent David and Daniel to boarding school this morning as well," one of the household staff came and informed Victoria.

"What? David and Daniel were sent to boarding school? But why didn't anyone tell me about this?" Victoria asked in shock.

"Madam Olivia decided early this morning to send Daniel and David to boarding school after she received a call from the police headquarters about another attack on Olivia Tower today," the staff replied, looking at Victoria.

"What? Another attack again? Why would someone attack our company twice in a single day?" Victoria whispered softly to herself.

Just then, Truth, who was sitting on Victoria's shoulder, spoke up. "Victoria, I feel Athena has already sent one of her new demons here to retrieve that artifact, and he must have gone to your office in search of it."

Hearing the Truth Fairy's words, Victoria asked the staff to turn on the television placed in the dining hall. As soon as the TV was switched on and a live news channel appeared, the news of the previous night's attack began playing in front of Victoria. It went something like this—

"According to the information received, this attack on Olivia Tower was carried out because the earlier attack had failed, which was thwarted midway by a mysterious girl. In last night's attack, the deaths of seven people have been confirmed, and the injured are being treated at a nearby Metro Hospital. The police chief stated that the identity of the culprit has not yet been established, and the statements of the injured are still pending, after which a conclusion can be reached. Recently, while releasing CCTV footage, the police chief informed that a girl aged around 22–23 years was seen entering the building late at night, but she was not seen exiting it. The police are also searching for this girl. In this attack, the security chief of Olivia Tower has also died, whose mutilated body was found lying outside the building's elevator. Olivia Tower's owner, Mr. Allen Stark, has stated that he has no enmity with anyone and does not know who is repeatedly attacking his office in this manner. From unidentified sources, it has also come to light that the real reason behind this attack is an artifact, said to be worth billions, which was misplaced or stolen from the building during the first attack. For the latest updates, follow our social media handles, and now we take you to the city's weather report."

After hearing so much news, Victoria angrily switched off the news channel and said to the Truth Fairy, "If the demon sent by Athena has already arrived here, it clearly means he is one step ahead of us right now. We can't waste any more time—we must get the artifact's location from Harry as soon as possible and reach it before that demon does."

On the other hand, Umbraxos, disguised as Kathrina and wearing the security team's uniform, had already reached Harry's house. After arriving at Harry's door, Umbraxos rang the doorbell and then stood there, waiting for Harry to open the door. Meanwhile, Harry had also received a call from Victoria and was talking to her on the phone.

"Harry, where are you right now?" Victoria asked him.

"I'm at home, but I'm just about to leave with the security team to retrieve the artifact. Why, what happened?" Harry asked, startled upon hearing Victoria's voice.

"Did you hear that Olivia Tower was attacked again last night, and that the security chief has been killed? Right now, the police suspect a girl," Victoria said to Harry.

"Yes, but the girl's face isn't clearly visible in the footage. Still, the police are searching for her. By the way, why did you call so early in the morning?" Harry asked in return.

"Have you found the artifact's location?" Victoria asked directly.

"Yes, I have, but when I spoke to the security chief last night, he asked me not to tell anyone. He suspected that someone inside the office might be involved with the person who stole the artifact. The fewer people who know the artifact's location, the better, because many lives have already been lost because of it. So, I'm sorry—I can't tell you the location," Harry said, refusing her.

Just then, Harry heard the doorbell ring for the third time—it was Kathrina, or rather Umbraxos, pressing it.

"But you said you spoke to the chief last night—he was murdered that very night. Then who were you talking to? And please, tell me the location," Victoria insisted.

On the other side, Umbraxos was now ringing the doorbell repeatedly, which irritated Harry. He said, "Victoria, look, I can't tell you. And it seems the security team has arrived, so I need to go. Bye. I'll explain everything to you when I get back." Saying this, Harry disconnected the call.

Then Harry angrily walked toward the door and, opening it, snapped in irritation, "A doorbell is meant to be rung once. It takes time for the person inside to reach the door because they don't fly here—they walk. But you just keep ringing it continuously."

However, as he said this, Harry's gaze fell upon Kathrina standing before him in the security team's uniform. The top button of her shirt was undone, and her figure was such that the opening made her cleavage clearly visible. Seeing such a beautiful woman in front of him, Harry was instantly mesmerized, and he immediately began apologizing to Kathrina for his behavior.

"By the way, who are you? The chief was killed last night, and I've never seen you with the security team before today," Harry asked Kathrina softly.

"Hello, Mr. Harry. I'm the chief's sister. I was his junior, and now that the chief has passed away, the agency has appointed me as the new chief. If you wish, I can show you my appointment order—it's kept on my car's dashboard," Kathrina said, lying smoothly.

But here, Harry made the same mistake the chief had made—he too became captivated by Kathrina's beauty, a mistake that had cost the chief his life. Repeating that very error, Harry refused to check her appointment order.

"Now that you're the chief's sister, you wouldn't lie. Please wait for a moment—I'll get my laptop, and then we'll leave," Harry said to Kathrina, and went back inside the house.

Disguised as Kathrina, Umbraxos had already realized that Harry had fallen into his trap, which was exactly what he wanted. The very next moment, Harry came back out with his laptop and bag, and started walking toward his car along with Kathrina.

"Where is the rest of your team? Are only the two of us going?" Harry asked, seeing Kathrina alone.

"Yes. The chief had said that it was possible someone from within the office or the security team itself was involved with the people who stole the artifact. That's why he warned me not to trust anyone. So I came here alone. But don't worry—I'm a living killing machine, and it doesn't take me long to take lives," Kathrina said, reassuring Harry.

Seeing her confidence, Harry began to trust her. He got into her car with Kathrina, and they headed toward Chor Bazaar.

Meanwhile, at Victoria's house, Victoria was hurriedly changing her clothes.

"What's going on, Victoria? Where are we going in such a hurry?" the Truth Fairy asked, watching her rush.

"Truth, we need to reach Harry as soon as possible. We're bound to find out something about the artifact from him. He said he spoke to the chief last night, but I think it was one of Athena's demons pretending to be the chief, because the chief was already dead by then. That idiot Harry cut my call without even listening properly," Victoria said.

As she spoke, Victoria grabbed her car keys, slung her bag over her shoulder, and walked toward the main door along with the Truth Fairy.

Elsewhere, Cheng and his boss were also ready. That day, they were going to meet the buyers from the dark web to strike a deal for the priceless artifact, completely unaware that two different dangers were moving toward them from two sides. In the very next moment, who would obtain the artifact and who would meet death was impossible to predict.
