Chapter 9 - LIKE A SOAP OPERA

"YOU'RE THE only crybaby Alpha I know."

Koo Mujin frowned at Lee Haneum's statement. "You know other Alphas?"

As expected, Lee Haneum gave him a look that said he was about to punch him if he didn't shut his mouth.

Hence, Koo Mujin acted like he was zipping his mouth.

"Alphas are rare, but yes, I know other Alphas," Lee Haneum said. "Isn't Bae Kyung an Alpha, too? You're saying something stupid, Koo Mujin."

Tsk.

No, Koo Mujin wasn't upset with Lee Haneum— he was upset with himself.

I just told myself that I'll save and protect Lee Haneum, and yet I let my jealous side take the wheel again.

No, this wouldn't do.

I have to act my age.

The problem was Koo Mujin's mental age seemed to have regressed along with his physical body.

This is exactly how I acted when I was around this age.

"Koo Mujin, are your parents coming here later?"

"Yes, they are," Koo Mujin said, nodding. Thanks to Lee Haneum's question, he managed to stop himself from using his brain power too much. He had to conserve it since he wasn't the brightest at that age. "Both my mother and father will be here, so don't worry."

"Did they scold you when they found out they were being summoned to school?"

"Oh, they did. They scolded me for breaking the school rule when I released my pheromones. But they didn't scold me for protecting you."

Lee Haneum's eyes widened in shock. "You told them about me?"

"Yes. I told them why I got into a fight, after all."

"T-Then they probably hate me for getting you dragged into my problems."

"No, of course not," Koo Mujin denied while shaking his head firmly. "Actually, they wanted to meet you…"

Crap.

Koo Mujin only realized that he shouldn't have said that when Lee Haneum started backing away from him.

Oh, no.

"Why would your parents want to meet me?" Lee Haneum asked suspiciously. "What did you tell them about me?"

Koo Mujin scratched his cheek. "Uhm…"

"You didn't tell them that you wanted to marry me, just like how you declared that you're my future husband. Did you?"

"Uh, about that…"

Lee Haneum's face turned red as if he were embarrassed, and then he glared at him. "Koo Mujin, you idiot!"

And, after that, Lee Haneum ran away from him.

Aigoo.

My husband is really a slow runner…

"No, I should stop looking at the Lee Haneum here as my husband. Right now, he's a kid who needs my help," Koo Mujin whispered to himself while gently slapping his cheeks. He didn't run after Lee Haneum immediately because he'd just catch up to him in no time. "I need to focus on uncovering Lee Haneum's situation in order to save him."

***

KOO MUJIN took his time walking.

So, when he got to the classroom, Lee Haneum was already in his seat.

The teacher hadn't arrived yet since there were at least five more minutes before first period, so the students in the classroom were scattered.

There were already cliques in the class.

But it seems like Lee Haneum doesn't have a friend.

Which was pretty strange.

After all, the Lee Haneum that he knew was good at socializing.

"Haneum-ah!"

Who the fuck calls Lee Haneum that casually, aside from me?

When Koo Mujin turned to the person who called Lee Haneum in a friendly way.

Huh?

That kid looks familiar.

Lee Haneum's face beamed. "You've recovered already, Jaehan-ah. Who gets sick on the first day of class?"

'Jaehan?'

Kim Jaehan?

That kid is Lee Haneum's best friend. In the real world, the two remained good friends. But Kim Jaehan migrated to the US to get treatment for his sickness. If I remember correctly, the kid's health deteriorated after giving birth.

Yes, Kim Jaehan was an Omega.

Koo Mujin couldn't help but smile while watching Lee Haneum loosen up around Kim Jaehan, and he was also glad to see Kim Jaehan looking healthy.

In fact, this Kim Jaehan was shorter and a bit chubby than he remembered.

The last time I saw Kim Jaehan in the real world, he was skin and bones.

Hence, Koo Mujin didn't recognize Kim Jaehan at first glance.

I hope the Kim Jaehan of this world stays healthy.

He got distracted when he felt someone shooting daggers at him.

When Koo Mujin tore his gaze away from Kim Jaehan, he saw Lee Haneum glaring at him while covering Kim Jaehan's face with a notebook.

Huh?

Did I stare at Kim Jaehan for too long?

Anyway, Koo Mujin smiled and waved at Lee Haneum cheerfully.

Don't worry, Haneum— I only have my eyes on you.

***

KOO MUJIN immediately got up from his seat as soon as the last class before lunch break ended.

He was about to head to Lee Haneum and Kim Jaehan.

But he stopped abruptly when the door suddenly burst open, and a middle-aged woman dressed like your typical rich ahjumma entered the classroom angrily.

"Lee Haneum, how many times do I have to tell you to stop seducing my son?!"

Excuse me?

Before Koo Mujin could even react to the old woman's offensive accusation towards Lee Haneum, the witch suddenly did something unforgivable.

The middle-aged ahjumma suddenly slapped Lee Haneum.

Twich.

On both cheeks.

That made Koo Mujin's blood boil.

This ahjumma must have lost her mind, huh?

When the ahjumma raised her hand again as if she wasn't done slapping Lee Haneum, Koo Mujin immediately ran towards his husband and hugged him— using his body as a shield to protect Lee Haneum, letting the old woman hit him instead.

The ahjumma's hands were heavy, so her slaps actually hurt.

And those hands dared to slap Lee Haneum?
