Chapter 12 - MISSION

OKAY, first things first.

Koo Mujin looked around while trying to figure out where he was.

This room isn't as fancy as the VIP Rooms I'm used to in Seoul hospitals, but it's still obviously a private room. So, nope, this isn't the school clinic.

"Just how long have I been unconscious…?"

Koo Mujin only realized that he asked that out loud when Lee Haneum answered.

"You were out for eight hours, idiot."

Is it just me, or Lee Haneum keeps calling me 'idiot' lately?

Koo Mujin didn't mind, so he just let it slide.

I won't complain even if Lee Haneum curses at me.

"If it's been eight hours, then…" Koo Mujin checked the time on the wall clock. He didn't have his watch anymore. And he belatedly realized that he was wearing hospital pajamas now. "You must be hungry, Lee Haneum. Let me just find my wallet, then let's grab dinner."

"Your parents already treated me to a nice lunch and early dinner. In fact, they went out to buy food again."

"Oh, I see."

Koo Mujin wasn't surprised, though.

My parents have always liked feeding my friends with delicious food.

Anyway, his parents didn't have to buy food themselves because they could have just asked their aides to do it.

Maybe his parents stepped out so Lee Haneum wouldn't feel awkward with them.

Moreover…

Food delivery services aren't popular at this time yet.

But their company, Komet Corporation, had already partnered up with a giant delivery service company so that the users could link different delivery service apps with their K-Talk account.

If I remember correctly, while I was in high school, our company merged with a huge internet portal…

Wait.

What internet portal was that again?

Koo Mujin clutched his head tight.

As the Vice Chairman of Komet Corporation, he drilled the history of their company into his brain. Hence, he knew the history of how their company grew over the years.

And, yet, he couldn't remember the details now.

He tried to rack his brain, but all he got was a splitting headache.

"Koo Mujin, are you alright? Should I call the doctor?"

Aww.

Lee Haneum is worried about me.

Koo Mujin was about to say that he was okay, but the door suddenly opened and…

"Mujin-ah, what's wrong? Are you in pain?"

Oh.

His parents came in and saw him clutching his head tight.

Of course, his parents instantly worried about him.

"Eomma, Abeoji, I'm fine," Koo Mujin said, dropping his hands from clutching his head. "I just had a splitting headache, that's all."

"That means you're not fine, son," his father said sternly. "Let's call the doctor."

"No, Abeoji, I'm really fine," Koo Mujin insisted, stopping his father when he tried to press the button that would alert the medical staff in the station. "The headache is gone, promise. But I'm famished. I want to eat meat, Eomma, Abeoji."

And that worked.

His parents hated it when their children were hungry, after all.

"Your father and I knew you'd get hungry as soon as you woke up, so we went to your favorite restaurant and ordered your favorite dishes," his mother said, and then she looked at Lee Haneum. "Haneum-ah, join us."

Oh?

Koo Mujin was pleased to hear his mother address Lee Haneum warmly.

They've already grown close while I was unconscious?

"I'd love to, ma'am, but I really need to go home now," Lee Haneum said politely. "I'm in charge of cooking tonight. My sister can't cook, so she must be starving now."

Really?

But isn't Lee Haneum's stepsister older than him? And she can't cook for herself? She needs her younger brother to feed her?

As far as Koo Mujin knew, Lee Haneum's stepsister wasn't disabled or sick.

She's perfectly healthy, and she's already an adult around this time.

"Oh, I see," his mother said, nodding. "Then our driver will take you home, Haneum."

"N-No, it's alright, ma'am," Lee Haneum said while shaking his head. "I can just take the bus."

"Dear, I insist," his mother said. "You didn't leave my son's side. We owe you this much."

"But I'm the reason Koo Mujin got into a fight in the first place…"

"That wasn't your fault, dear," his mother said, gently patting Lee Haneum's shoulder. "We're not blaming you for what happened, so don't be too hard on yourself. Actually, we're grateful that you put up with our son."

"Eomma," Koo Mujin whined. "You make it sound like I'm some feral child who's hard to handle."

"Yes, that's exactly what you are, Koo Mujin," his father said sternly, and then he looked at Lee Haneum. "Student Lee Haneum, bring these home. My wife and I brought these for you and your family."

His father handed two big paper bags from a fancy restaurant to Lee Haneum.

Koo Mujin's father could be intimidating, so it wasn't shocking that Lee Haneum accepted the paper bags, albeit awkwardly.

"T-Thank you, sir."

Koo Mujin could tell that Lee Haneum was feeling uncomfortable already.

I want to spend more time with Lee Haneum, but I don't want to overwhelm him.

"Haneum-ah, thank you for staying with me. I'd love to walk you home, but I'm sure my parents wouldn't let me leave the hospital yet," Koo Mujin said. "So, see you at school."

Lee Haneum nodded. "Get well soon, Koo Mujin."
