Maelina's gaze met Zarek's. "Your Majesty, there is another matter."
"What is it?"
"If the prophecy is to unfold," she continued carefully, "you and your soulmate must complete the bond soon. If not… the consequences will be fatal."
Zarek's jaw flexed. His fists tightened at his sides, yet he remained silent.
Aldric chipped in. "Your Majesty, she is right. Consider the risks of delay. The last time you lost control, many died or were gravely injured. The palace itself is still under repair. My own wounds have only just begun to heal."
Zarek's gaze shifted toward Aldric. Still, he said nothing.
Maelina leaned in slightly. "Your Majesty, you need to do something about it. Your beast has only remained calm because you visit her each night."
Aldric's eyes went wide, his mouth opened in shock. "You… you've been... What?"
