The Next Morning
Eliora adjusted the hem of her lemon gown, while her maids worked on smoothing her curls.
"You look radiant, my lady," one maid whispered, tucking a stray curl behind her ear.
"Like a sunrise," another added, smiling.
Eliora's cheeks warmed. "Thank you."
A sharp knock sounded at the door. One of the maids stepped forward.
"Who is it?" she asked.
The voice that replied was deep, obviously a beast. "Lady Eliora. The king requests your presence. You are to join him for breakfast."
The maids exchanged nervous glances.
"Breakfast… with the King?" one whispered.
Eliora nodded. "I'll go."
"Shall we help you?" another maid asked, glancing at her gown.
"Yes, please," Eliora said.
The maids quickly adjusted her sleeves, smoothed her curls, and gave her last small smiles.
"Be careful," one said softly as they led her to the door.
Eliora nodded, trying to push down the fluttering nerves.
She opened the door and followed the beast through the quiet corridors.
