Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Rescue

During the debate at the dinner table, Peter almost exposed his identity as Spider-Man, but luckily, he reacted quickly enough and didn't slip up.

"I'm going to the amusement park tomorrow, so I definitely need to bring this camera." Peter packed the camera into his backpack.

Silas, sitting in Peter's room and munching on fruit, said, "What's so great about the amusement park that you need to take pictures?"

Silas unintentionally turned his head and saw a picture hanging on the wall—a picture of Silas looking dazed.

"Oh, God, you even put this ugly photo up," Silas glared at Peter.

Peter paused what he was doing, looked at the photo on the wall, and said, "Of course. The wall is covered with pictures of the people I love the most."

"So, is Liz Allan one of them?" Silas noticed pictures of Aunt May, Uncle Ben, and... Liz Allan?

"Oh!" Peter awkwardly took the picture down. "This one..."

"Don't worry, I get it," Silas said, nudging Peter with his shoulder.

This made Peter blush. Thanks to his new powers, he was beginning to feel less self-conscious at school.

However, his personality was taking longer to change. It was only when he wore the Spider-Man mask that he could let his true wit shine.

"Don't talk about me. How are things with you and Misty?" Peter countered Silas with a question.

Silas quickly replied, "What are you talking about?"

"Oh, come on. It's obvious to everyone that the girl likes you." Peter thought his friend was a bit dense.

Silas fell silent for a moment. It seemed like that might be true; Misty was always the one who initiated their outings.

But why would Misty like him? He was still just a poor kid. Don't tell me it's love at first sight.

All love at first sight is shallow! Could Misty really be...

"No, no..." Silas immediately snapped out of it. Why was he thinking such dirty thoughts? But Misty's face and figure really were perfect.

"Hey!" Peter waved his hand in front of Silas's eyes. "What are you thinking about, Silas?"

"Nothing. You take your time preparing. I'm going to my room." Silas collected his thoughts, opened the door, and left.

This left Peter scratching his head. "What was that all about? That felt weird."

In Silas's Room

"Sleep, sleep~" Although Silas had good physical fitness, staying up late every day was still bad. He needed to get to bed early and wake up early.

The two Parker boys, in a rare moment of coordination, both decided to stay home that night to conserve energy for a fun day of relaxation tomorrow.

Morning

"Alright! Parker family! Prepare for launch!" Ben Parker said humorously, holding up a small red flag.

"Be sure to bring water and snacks. Things at the amusement park aren't the same price as outside," Aunt May said helplessly, looking at Ben Parker. He's so old, yet he still has the mentality of a young man.

Ben Parker stood up straight, tucked his chin, puffed out his chest, looked straight at Aunt May, and placed his right hand at his temple with his palm down. "Reporting! Everything is ready. Requesting permission to depart."

"Alright, alright, stop fooling around. Take care of these two young men," Aunt May said with a gentle laugh, tapping Ben Parker's hand.

Ben Parker lowered his hand and stretched. "Getting old is tough. Just puffing out my chest tired me out."

"Peter! Silas! Are you two ready?" Ben Parker called into the house.

After a lot of banging and shuffling, Silas and Peter appeared at the door. Peter was wearing his backpack.

"What do you have in your backpack, Peter?" Ben Parker glanced at Peter's bag with curiosity.

Peter replied, "My camera and some random junk. I was too lazy to take it out."

In reality, his Spider-Man suit was also inside. He had spent some time sketching designs for a new suit the night before and had gone to sleep in a rush. He also planned to buy some fabric and tools for the new suit later today.

"Camera?" Ben Parker frowned. "Where did you get a camera?"

"A friend lent it to me. Silas knows about it," Peter said, winking at Silas.

Silas, catching the cue, confirmed, "Yes, Uncle Ben, I was there."

"Okay then, we're ready to go. Peter, be careful with that camera, don't damage your friend's things."

Ben Parker warned him once and then dropped the subject, leading the family out the door.

Because the car was broken, their mode of transportation became the bus.

Silas subconsciously observed the surrounding passengers. After confirming there was nothing unusual, he relaxed his gaze.

"What's wrong, Silas?" Aunt May noticed Silas's strange behavior.

Silas shook his head. "Nothing, just looking for seats. Aunt May and Uncle Ben, you two should sit over there."

"Poor Silas~" Peter thought to himself. He figured Silas's reaction was due to the bus incident yesterday.

The bus slowly started moving, stopping and starting along the way, finally arriving at their destination.

"Finally here. It looks like we came a bit late; it's already time for lunch," Ben Parker said, lifting his arm to look at his watch.

"Good thing, I'm starving, Uncle Ben," Peter felt a pang of hunger.

Aunt May suggested, "There's a park right next to us. Let's eat there."

"That's a great idea." Ben Parker led everyone into the park and they began eating lunch.

Enjoying the comfortable breeze and listening to the birds chirp happily in the sky, this peaceful scene made Silas wonder if this was really the Marvel Universe.

Just then, three fire trucks drove past with sirens blaring, shattering the rare moment of tranquility.

"This feels more normal~" Silas mumbled, taking a bite of his sandwich.

"Wait here for me. My stomach feels a little upset. I need to use the restroom," Peter suddenly stood up.

Ben Parker pointed down the path ahead. "Follow this path, and the restroom is on the right. If you can't find it, ask a passerby or check the park map posted on the grass."

"Got it!" Peter quickly rushed away.

This made Ben Parker puzzled. "Is his stomach really hurting that much?"

Silas, knowing the truth, realized Peter was off to be a hero again, but he didn't plan to interfere this time.

Rushing to a secluded corner to change into his suit, Peter suddenly realized that his backpack was still with Uncle Ben.

"No!" Peter, at a loss, looked around desperately and then spotted an Iron Man toy mask in a trash can.

Fire Scene

"Are there any trapped people inside?" a firefighter asked.

"Yes! My daughter is still inside!" a Black woman cried hysterically, trying to rush in but being held back by the firefighters.

"Alright! Prepare..." The firefighter hadn't finished speaking when he saw 'Iron Man' rush into the burning building, shouting:

"The little girl inside is my job! Spider-Man's got this!"

"What the heck?" The firefighters were completely baffled.

"It's Spider-Man!" The mother seemed to regain a glimmer of hope.

Spider-Man's reputation was growing in this area, as Peter was currently only active in this vicinity.

BANG!

Peter kicked away the pile of debris blocking his path and shouted, "Hey! Is anyone here!"

"Waaah~ Waaah~ I'm here!" Peter heard crying and calls for help coming from ahead.

"Hold on!" Ignoring the scorching flames, Peter rushed inside and found the little girl hiding in the bathroom.

"Don't cry! I'm Spider-Man, and I'm going to save you!" Peter hugged the little girl tightly, looking at the bathroom window. A wooden board from the roof had smashed down, blocking the window.

The flames were now starting to engulf the bathroom. The wooden bathroom door did nothing to stop the fire's spread.

CRASH!

Peter began kicking the wooden board over the window, but it was proving difficult to break. He then spotted the sink faucet.

SHING! SHING!

Using two web lines, he ripped the faucet off the sink. Water began to spray out, temporarily halting the spread of the flames.

"You can do it, Spider-Man!" the little girl hiding behind Peter shouted.
