I frowned as I faced him, trying to read his expression. Was he mocking me? Playing some kind of cruel joke? Yet when I looked into his eyes, what I saw there wasn't amusement—it was sadness. Deep, heavy, unguarded sadness.
"What?" I snapped. "You said I was annoying. And now you want me to stay? Are you out of your mind, Xavion?!"
I took a step back, putting distance between us.
"I—I don't know," he said, his voice cracking in a way I had never heard before. "I don't know why I'm scared of losing you. I feel like… I wouldn't survive if you weren't by my side. I think I—I think I've fallen for you."
Before I could stop myself, my hand moved.

The sound echoed sharply in the air. His head turned slightly from the impact, eyes widening in disbelief.
"Wake up, Xavion!" I shouted, my chest rising and falling. "You already have a girlfriend! You're just confused. You love Charlotte, don't you?!"
