Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Political Demands

The morning passed quietly, with no unexpected guests arriving.

The bloody smell in the corner of the dojo had completely disappeared as if nothing had ever happened.

After lunch, Kawaze didn't go out. He had a feeling something important would happen today.

In the afternoon, he focused on guiding Nawaki, helping him make his movements more precise and unified.

His Flying Thunder God training was already complete—he had no problem using it in combat now.

Seishu didn't ask what had happened in the morning. He knew it wasn't something he could handle at his current level.

In Kawaze's eyes, this sunny boy seemed to have grown a little more mature.

After an entire afternoon of practice, Nawaki, escorted by several experienced warriors, dragged his tired body back home.

Kawaze had insisted on precautions—who could guarantee what the madman Danzo would do next?

In his eyes, human life held no value. That was something Kawaze had never understood before.

At night, after washing up and preparing for bed, Kawaze was interrupted by the butler rushing over to inform him that a guest had arrived—and judging by the look, not a friendly one.

"Where's big brother?"

Kawaze chuckled softly. Everything was unfolding exactly as he expected.

"The master is already waiting in the front hall."

"Prepare a quiet room. I'll be there shortly."

"Yes, sir."

Kawaze returned to his room and changed into a formal robe. Even if he disliked the guest, he still had to show proper courtesy.

Once he was dressed, he headed to the quiet room. Facing Shigeru was Shimura Danzo, with two Root operatives standing behind him.

This was Kawaze's first time meeting Danzo. They had never interacted before.

Yet the man before him looked exactly like his depiction in the original story—except he didn't have Shisui's eye, or Hashirama's cells, nor Sharingan embedded in his arm.

Kawaze looked directly at Danzo, and Danzo stared back at him.

Though young, Kawaze had managed the vast Hatake family business for years. Few knew that the one truly running the Hatake family wasn't the famous Hatake Shigeru, but his younger brother.

"Lord Danzo, what brings you here tonight? What can you offer me?"

Kawaze smiled slightly, sat beside his brother, and poured tea for Danzo. As for the two behind him, he pretended they didn't exist.

"Hahaha… since you already know the answer, why bother asking?"

Danzo also smiled as he drank his tea, though his laughter always carried a sense of discomfort.

"Oh? Why do you say that, Lord Danzo?"

"You didn't write anything in the letter."

Kawaze wasn't afraid that killing Root operatives would anger Danzo. His confidence came from his own overwhelming strength.

"You killed my men."

"And yet you pretend not to hear it."

Danzo's expression suddenly changed. He slammed his teacup heavily onto the table.

"Hahaha, don't get angry. If you have something to say, just say it."

Kawaze calmly pressed down on his brother, preventing an immediate confrontation.

"Haha… Kawaze is still young, but I admit I'm no match for him when it comes to this aura of fearlessness."

Seeing Kawaze unmoved, Danzo cursed him inwardly—this sly little fox—but plastered an ugly smile back onto his face.

"I heard you plan to build a hospital with the Senju clan?"

"Yes. Is Lord Danzo interested as well?"

Kawaze put on a surprised expression, as though he had only just learned of this.

"I'm short on funds… your project helps me greatly."

He knew very well that Root operated solely under Danzo's support, so they couldn't possibly possess large sums of money.

"The Hatake family is a powerful force. I don't think they need me as a financial advisor."

Danzo remained silent.

"But I am very interested in this hospital."

"I want to be the director."

Danzo made no effort to hide his goal. He leaned forward, staring directly into Kawaze's eyes.

"I can provide protection for the hospital."

"We won't interfere with its operation, nor ask for any share of the profits."

His request wasn't unreasonable—in fact, it was quite advantageous for Kawaze.

Root's combat strength was well known, and far more reliable than his own young warriors.

Not to mention, he had no objection to Tsunade being appointed director. At the same time, he needed to conduct certain experiments in the hospital—things he didn't want outsiders involved in.

"A nominal director?"

"Just for the reputation?"

"Lord Danzo truly calculates well."

"But what if I say… I don't agree?"

The moment Kawaze finished speaking, the smile vanished from his face. Killing intent spread from his entire body.

If you want a slice of the Hatake family's cake, why not say it openly?

"You should know—I came here in goodwill. Perhaps you still don't understand the power of Root."

Danzo had also fought through blood-soaked battlefields, so he wasn't intimidated by Kawaze's killing intent.

"It's best you agree. It benefits both you and the Hatake family."

It was almost an open threat.

"Remember—my name is Hatake Kaede."

Before the words finished, Kawaze appeared behind Danzo, punching him in the throat with a hooked fist.

The two shinobi behind Danzo had already had their throats slit by Shigeru and slid down the wall.

No one knew whether the masked operatives regretted accompanying Danzo to the Hatake home.

"Y–you… do you intend to rebel against Konoha?"

Danzo could no longer keep calm. He couldn't die now—not before becoming Hokage.

"Heh… Danzo, do you think you represent Konoha?"

"The land for my hospital was approved by the Third Hokage."

"I'm prepared to pay 100 million ryō in cash."

"You? The director?"

"Why? Do you have more heads than anyone else?"

Before he could finish, Kawaze tightened his grip. Danzo's face twisted in pain as air was cut off from his throat.

His entire chakra network felt disrupted, his whole body numb, unable to resist at all.

The brothers' strength was overwhelming. If Danzo had known earlier, he would never have walked into the tiger's den.

"Please… spare me… we can discuss the hospital later…"

Danzo squeezed out the words. Perhaps he didn't truly believe Kawaze would kill him—even at death's door, he still clung to the hospital.

"Hahaha, Danzo, perhaps you should discuss that with the Shinigami."

Kawaze laughed out of rage. He had never seen someone value power more than his own life.

His grip tightened further, Danzo's eyes rolling back.

"I—I… let go… I surrender!"

Danzo gasped desperately, sucking in air, ignoring the blood-scented atmosphere around him.

"Lord Danzo, you should've said so earlier."

Kawaze returned to his seat, picked up Danzo's teacup—now stained with droplets of blood—and poured him fresh tea.

"Please."

Danzo hadn't recovered from the brink of death. He drained the blood-tinged tea in one gulp, his breathing slowly calming.

"You know… killing you would cause trouble for me. But that doesn't mean I can't kill you."

"My name is Hatake Kaede. I hope you remember it this time."

"It's easy to leave without escorting you out."

Kawaze finished his own cup of water in one go and walked out of the quiet room. Shigeru followed close behind.

His cold, ruthless brother had taken two lives without a word.

One day, he would indeed be worthy of the title "Konoha's White Fang."

In an instant, only Danzo and the two corpses remained in the silent room. Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, he steadied himself against the wall and stood up, eyes full of fear and hatred.

"Hatake… Kaede… I, Danzo, will remember you."

The teacup in his hand slipped and shattered on the floor.

Ignoring the two bodies, Danzo staggered out of the room and left the Hatake estate.

The confrontation with Danzo had ended for now—but Kawaze knew very well that this man would never let him go so easily.
