When Felix returned to the guild, it was as rowdy as when he left. Chairs were flying and tables were flipped. A familiar brawl was happening among the members for one reason or another.
Navigating through the fight, Felix went to the familiar counter where he found Makarov reading the Sorcerer Weekly. The old man let out a strange laugh while looking at the swimsuit models. Felix peeking found the models quite pretty but didn't see why the master was laughing. So he simply shrugged and took a seat.
"Master Makarov, mission complete." Felix said.
"Mmm, good job." Makarov put away the magazine.
Felix began explaining the mission and what he found at the Sawyer Ranch and his suspicion about the Mayor. Then he explained about how the Mayor tried to attack him and used a cursed flute by Lullaby. In the end, he told how the Mayor ended up dying to the flute and explained he sealed it.
"If I am not wrong, the Mayor should have been envious of other magic talents. That enviousness turned to jealousy and later hatred." Makarov said a bit sadly.
"Where is Mirajane?" Felix turned around.
It had basically been over a month since he last saw her and most of his friends. The only one he saw a few days ago upon returning from his whaling experience is Erza. Now, he couldn't see any trace of them.
Even Gray and Natsu were nowhere to be seen. It basically were the older adults within the guild. Even Nab wasn't standing in front of the mission board. Instead he was off rough housing with his friends he tended to team up with in rare times.
"Mission." Makarov said before explaining. "The S-class exams are coming up in a couple months. Next month, the guild will enter a flurry of mission taking."
A question mark popped up above Felix's head as he didn't really understand what the two had in connection. What did the upcoming S-class exams have to do with mass taking of missions? Are the guild members thinking if they took on a bunch of missions like last minute cramming, they could be selected as a candidate.
"Are you interested in taking the exam?" Master Makarov asked.
"Doesn't really matter to me. I seemed to be struggling with my last couple missions." Felix sighed a bit.
'Brat, that's because your last few missions are either S-class or borderline S-class.' Makarov thought.
It is rare for such an occurrence in regular missions, but somehow Felix ended up getting two in a row. Thanks to this, Makarov felt that Felix had reached the strength level to be included in the S-class exam. He just didn't know about his other skills as one needed more than just raw strength to be an S-class mage.
After dropping the topic of S-class exams and eating a meal, Felix prepared to go home to rest.
"Should I take a look at another mission?" Felix asked Makarov.
"Why don't you rest for a few days?" Makarov replied.
Felix just nodded and left the guild. Due to taking back to back missions, he had some cleaning to do at home.

The next day when Felix went to the guild, he went to the library and picked up another book on magic theory. This has become his habit when he isn't going out on missions or creating his own magic spells for fun like his dress break spell. He is instead just increasing his wealth of knowledge of this world's magic theories.
After a bit of reading, Felix found the book to be about the author's goal of finding the core of magic. In the author's words, to reach the core one must delve into the dark of the darkest magic, black magic.
Flipping to the name on the cover, he found the name of the second guild master of Fairy Tail.
Precht Gaebolg.
It felt a bit strange to see the former guild master who talked cheerfully to write such a dark theory. Felix didn't really agree with the view of using black magic to reach the core of magic. Black magic is just a branch of magic, so if one did manage to reach the core. Then the core would just be the core of black magic.
To Felix, the core of magic is creation and miracles. For the other fancy goals of magic, it simply progresses forward along one branch of magic they have chosen. For like the black magic core, there is fire magic core, ice magic core, and so on. Each has their own core of magic and this belief could be viewed as creation and miracles at work.
"What book got you thinking so much?" Makarov hopped into a seat nearby.
"Just a difference in view on magic." Felix said.
After sliding the book over, he just explained his own view. Everyone has their own view on magic. Just as if a thousand people watch a movie, they will have a thousand different opinions. Such is the case with magic.
"What an interesting view." Makarov hummed.
Makarov didn't disagree nor agree that Felix is right. He only found such a view interesting as he slid the book back over.
"Why don't you try writing your own magic theory?" Makarov asked.
Felix rolled the idea over in his mind before giving a light shrug. The idea of writing did have an appeal to him, just not writing magic theory. Instead the idea of writing something like Lord of the Rings popped into his mind.
"I might need to learn Archive Magic." Felix said after some thought.
"Huh?" Makarov looked baffled.
"If I am going to write, I want to write a fantasy novel. Archive magic might help me keep track and input my ideas better." Felix said.
Felix actually hopes that Archive magic will help him dig out Lord of the Rings better than his memories could. So having such a goal, Felix got up from the counter and headed towards the guild library.
Inside the guild library, besides magic theory, there are books on different types of magic within. If Felix recalled, there is the magic for Archive magic on one of the shelves.
"Here it is." Felix said.
After reading the summary, Felix found that learning Archive magic wouldn't help him that much. The magic worked differently then he thought it did as it was more of a calculator. He could input a bunch of data and it could process it for him at a rapid pace.
So if he tried to use this magic to help him write a book, besides typos, this magic wouldn't be much help. Maybe the advanced Super Archive could achieve his goal but the guild didn't have the magic book for that one.
"If this won't work, then I will just modify it." Felix said.
Modifying spells could be said to be both easy and hard. After some more thinking, he realized that he didn't need to modify it too much. Instead of just trying to be lazy and input his memories to have magic write it for him. He might as well just use magic to help him create an outline to recreate it.
Even if it wasn't an exact replica from his memory, it shouldn't be too bad. Hence, after deciding this, Felix went to work studying and began his career in writing.

Mirajane kicked open the guild leading her siblings into the guild. Her voice filled the hall as she asked a very important question.
"Master, is Felix back?"
