Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

Time begins to pass upon Felix returning to the guild and deciding to write a fantasy book. Over the last month, he didn't take on any missions as Makarov asked him not to and being busy writing his book. So most of the time when he is not reading a book on magic, he is either thinking hard to recall the plot or his hands are moving across sheets of paper.

Unlike others who transmigrated, it seems he skipped the lesson on how to effortlessly recall book plots he read 20 years ago or how to write a thick book like The Hobbit within a few days to a week.

Currently, he only wrote up to the party escaping the Goblins and being chased by Orcs and Wargs up a tree. It was a bit difficult to get this far as he had to rack his brain and spend quite a bit of time figuring out and revising.

"It's quite well written so far." Makarov praised.

Felix nodded, as his pen tapped the counter lost in thought. While he wrote the bulk of his book at home, he also wrote at the Guild. During which he sought out help from Master Makarov as well Levy and a few in the guild.

Master Makarov helped him sort out his ramblings while Levy helped him touch up his writing and dialogue. Even if he got most of this world language down, he could be said to still struggle a bit when writing a book like this.

"How is your Archive Magic coming along?" Makarov asked.

"I got it mostly figured out." Felix replied.

Then he opened up his Archive Magic and soon what he had written so far appeared once more. Felix has been trying to edit this magic and while he did succeed, it didn't turn out the way he wanted it too. While useful, it wasn't what he was quite looking for. Now it basically just served as a backup of his writing and magic he learns or messes around with.

"Still, why did you choose to write a fantasy book? It just seems out of character for you." Makarov asked.

"It just sounded…fun?" Felix tilted his head as he replied.

Makarov nodded as a small smile tugged at his lips. To him it seemed that Felix was coming out of his shell wrapped around him. Which seemed like progress.

Felix on the other hand really didn't find it strange. In truth in his first life he quite liked fantasy books. Hence if he is going to write a book, it won't be on dry magic theory but fantasy.

"Master Makarov. I need to take on a mission. My funds are running a bit dry." Felix scratched his cheek.

Thanks to the S-class exams coming in a little over a week. Many of the guild members were rushing in and out of the guild. They all hope to become candidates by completing a mass quantity of missions at the last minute.

So, the missions that were left were ones that would take a lot of time to travel to and back not even counting the mission itself. Now Felix is a bit stuck as Master Makarov wanted most of the guild members here when he announced who was taking part in the exam.

"Why don't you become a temporary waiter until the exams." Makarov suggested. "It's not the best paying, but it's enough to live on and tide you over."

Felix thought over the suggestion and nodded.

--

The next day at the guild, Felix began his waiter career. From delivering food and drinks he walked around in a waiter uniform and jester hat. Master Makarov said the hat is to make it more cheerful, so Felix wore the hat.

Felix didn't mind the hat, but it wasn't one he really liked. So, during break he left the guild and found a hat shop and put in an order for a custom made one. This one had long straps with large bells attached.

Unlike the hat Master Makarov gave him, this one didn't have many bright colors but was of a darker shade. Luckily, it wasn't a very difficult hat to make so by the time he returned at lunch, it was done.

"You changed hats?" Makarov looked at the jester hat.

"Mmm." Felix nodded.

Makarov just shrugged as he put away the jester hat he previously gave. So watching Felix move about the guild hall acting as a waiter. He suddenly felt a fierce glare directed at him.

Mirajane who walked in returning from a mission saw Felix wearing a weird hat that didn't match his outfit. So directing her glare at the culprit who caused such a clash of clothing. It made Makarov laugh a bit nervously.

The last time he received such a glare, he ended up with food so spicy it was borderline inhumane. So a few beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he looked at Mirajane who was dragged by her younger sister to find a seat.

--

After a day of being a waiter, Felix began to relax in his bathtub as Erza and Mirajane sat beside him also relaxing. It seemed a bit rare for the two not to be bickering while together.

"Do you think either of us will be picked for the exam?" Mirajane asked.

"I don't think so." Erza shook her head.

"Hard to say." Felix said. "You two are quite strong as is Laxus."

"Then what about you?" Erza asked.

"Me? I guess I am decently strong." Felix shrugged.

"If you're only decent, it feels like you are mocking us." Mirajane grumbled. "We haven't beaten you once."

"Yeah." Erza felt a surge of annoyance.

Felix scratched his cheek as he felt what he said was true. Besides, why does it sound like they want to beat him so badly? Will they only feel they became stronger after they beat him up?

"Have I offended you guys? Why do you guys want to beat me so much?" Felix asked.

"Because you're strong. If we are strong and you are decent. Then wouldn't that make us weak if we can't beat you." Erza said.

"Doesn't that just mean I am good at fighting? To be strong, one needs to be more than just being good at fighting." Felix replied.

"Whatever." Mirajane didn't want to continue this topic. "So when is your book going to be done? I want to read the ending already."

It was a harsh shift in topic, but Felix didn't mind. Instead, it was a much more relaxing topic to chat about.

--

Time like a flowing river moved forward where the day for the list of S-class exams arrived. Within the packed guild, Felix continued his job as a waiter with the sound of his bells jingling softly.

On a small makeshift stage set up at the center of the guild. Master Makarov appeared dramatically on it, drawing everyone's attention.

"Ladies and gentlemen. The time has arrived once more this year for the S-class Exams. Over the past year I have watched many of you improve and have selected those I felt are ready for the exams."

Under a semi dramatic and grand speech, Makarov was about to continue when Gray and Natsu suddenly began brawling. The cause was Nab accidentally stepping on Gray foot.

So one moment everyone focused on the grand speech then the next a guild wide brawl began. Master Makarov tried to gently cough into his hand to get everyone's attention. When that didn't work, he simply used his Giant Magic to end the brawl.
