Chapter 16 - Mana Freeze.

"You called for me, Tower Master?" he asked, voice low.

Her gaze remained fixated on the letter, but her voice filled the room. "Yes, I did."

She took a small pause and then continued, gaze finally lifted from the letter as it fell onto Leon. "I have an important task for you, Ragnar."

Her hands folded together, rested beneath her chin, and looked straight ahead. Her eyes were cold, calm, distant, and unreadable.

"I got to know that you came back after completing a mission recently?" she asked.

Leon gave a small nod, his eyes were fixated on her as he looked straight into her eyes. "Yes, I completed a task given to me by Senior Sia." He said, voice firm.

Her gaze didn't falter even for a slight second. "Do you think that you're in perfect condition to take on this task?" A playful smirk was tucked up on her lips.

Leon's expressions didn't change just a small warm smile was on it. "I'm in perfect condition, Tower Master. I'm always here for your assistance." He said as he bowed slightly and then straightened his back once again.

"Very well," she said, voice steady.

She took a small pause as she took a sheet of paper, and on top of it, engravings were made. Her finger shifted slightly to the right.

The letter lifted on its own, purple mana threading through its edges as it glided smoothly toward her.

The sheet of paper that was in her hand flew by itself and got tucked inside the letter. The seal placed itself on top of the letter as it fell onto the table with a low thud.

"This is the letter which you have to deliver to the other branch of our tower," she said, tone solid.

His eyebrow twitched slightly, lips parted as his voice came out. "We have one more branch?" He asked, voice steady.

"Yes, we have one more branch, and that's in the second city, which is Ashenveil ." She replied, slightly setting her hands on the table and leaning back into the chair.

He started walking towards her table, steps slow and deliberate.

When he reached there, his hand extended as he pickedup the letter. "I'll do the work," he said as he bowed slightly, placing his right hand on his stomach.

A faint smile tugged on her lips as she said, "Stay the night in the tower and leave tomorrow on time."

He got back up as he straightened his back. "Will do, Tower Master." He turned around and made his way out of the room.

When he left her room, the door closed behind him with a low thud.

'Well, isn't he a little too interesting for a newbie?' She smirked slightly, but then instantly grabbed a sigil and started working.

Leon reached the main hall, and the letter was still in his hand. His gaze fell onto Maya, who was standing next to a wall, hands crossed slightly.

"Waiting for me?" His voice came out low but steady.

Her eyes shot towards him instantly, voice came out a bit shaky. "U-uh yeah... I don't know anyone else here, so I thought that waiting for you would be the best answer."

A small smile tugged at his lips as he made his way to Maya and patted her slightly. "Don't worry, you'll get to know others soon enough."

Maya's cheeks started to turn pink, her head started to heat up slightly, fingers curled together. "I-I'm not a kid..."

The smile on his face wore off, eyebrow twitched as he lifted his hand from her head. "But you clearly look like a kid. You're hardly five feet," he said, tone filled with worry and confusion.

Her head fell downwards, eyes looking at her feet. "I'm twenty-three years old in real life..." she said, voice low.

Leon's temple got covered with sweat, eyebrow twitched as his eyes frowned slightly. "WHAT?" His voice came out loud.

"Don't shout like that... I feel embarrassed."

A small sigh escaped through his lips as he looked back at her. "I'm sorry about that. You're even older than me."

Her eyes shifted towards his face as she said, "How old are you, Ragnar?"

He raised his hand as he brushed his hair with it. "Well, my age is just twenty."

Before they could continue their conversation, a loud sound came from where the pathways were.

A small sigh escaped through Leon's lips as he turned his head towards the direction the sound came from, a small warm smile tucked up on his lips. "Hello, Senior Synthia."

Synthia came running and jumped towards the couch and sat on it with a loud BANG. "Hey, junior. I heard that the Tower Master called for you. Did you finish your private meeting with her?" She asked, eyes fixated on him.

His eyes drifted towards her. "Yes, I met with the Tower Master, and she told me to take this letter to the other branch of our tower," he said as he showed the letter to her.

"OH! The other branch, huh?" Her voice came out, tone cheerful.

She took a small pause and then continued. "I'll accompany you too. It's been a long time since I met with the other members of our tower."

A small chuckle escaped through his mouth, but he covered it with the back of his hand. "Yes, Senior Synthia. I don't mind you tagging along with me."

"Junior, for now, you should go and take a rest. Tomorrow we have to leave early," she said as she lay down on her couch.

Leon bowed slightly as he made his way to the dorms of the tower. Maya followed behind him, but after a while, went to the female section of the dorm hall.

When he entered the hall, he noticed that the room was small and dim, built of rough stone with faded runes carved into the walls.

A narrow bed with a thin mattress rested in the corner, beside a crooked wooden desk and a worn chair. A weak purple mana lamp flickered overhead, casting long shadows. The space was bare and cold, meant for rest and nothing more.

He made his way to the bed, and he sat on it. "Phew... today was definitely tiring."

His heart started to beat faster than usual, as if it were reacting to something unusual. The sweat on his face began to dry out, and the skin started to turn purple.

"What the fuck is happening? Mana Freeze?" His fingers clenched onto the bedsheets, his body trying its best to fight and survive the current situation, but he felt helpless.
