Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 - Progress (2)

After roughly a couple hours of discussing the infrastructure plans with the mayor, Lucky was finally done with his first task of the day.

The second task of the day was visiting the school he built 5 years ago, now an academy consisting of an elementary school, a middle school, and a high School.

'Oer Academy.... the name sucks, but it's what's familiar to everyone,' thought Lucky.

Though he did not stay as a teacher, he was the sole owner of the academy.

He essentially had the authority to do whatever he wanted with it.

Surprisingly, the position of headmaster at the academy was taken by Ella.

Alhough she was the youngest of the elven sisters, she was the one most passionate about teaching in the academy.

As the years went by, the other sisters took up positions outside the academy whilst she stayed as a teacher.

Thus, Lucky promoted her into becoming the headmistress of the academy.

The grade system of the academy stayed the same as on Earth, 12 grades consisting each of 2 semesters.

Currently however, as it was still in its 5th year of operation, some of its students were also taking positions as teachers.

And since the starting age for participation in the learning were still based on Earth's standards, that being 5 or 6 years old, the goblins could only attend once they reached adulthood.

The most senior of its students were 5th graders, and thus, the teaching position were also gifted to the top of the 5th graders.

Lucky could have changed the rules a bit to suit the goblins, but because most that attended were vampire goblins, there was no need to change it.

Besides, the elven sisters' children were also taking their education there.

If more non-goblins were to attend the academy in the future, lowering the acceptance age would be troublesome due to most other races having slower aging rates than goblins.

Speaking of the half-elven children of the elves, Lucky encountered the children playing in the courtyard of the academy.

'If I'm not mistaken, they're around 11 or 12 years old now. It seems being half-goblin and half-elven have turned their aging rate similar to normal humans. No, it might be slightly slower....' thought Lucky.

The elf-goblin children greeted Lucky by respectfully bowing to him.

They knew their mothers served him.

And although they hadn't been turned into vampires, they would still not mind if Lucky ordered them to do things.

But Lucky merely waved at them and continued his walk.

'Children should act like children during childhood, I'll work them to the bone once they become adults,' he thought.

As he walked through the courtyard and entered another area, he found his destination.

The reason he visited the academy was for the building in front of him, the research department building.

There was a researching department in Oer Academy, separate from its grade system. This department was responsible for most of Oer's new inventions and scientific breakthrough.

Anyone can join the department as long as they could pass its exam.

The entrance exam to the research department was notoriously hard.

This was due to the advanced knowledge required to pass it. One should at least be in high school before one could understand the questions in the exam.

It wasn't always that hard, but it grew harder and harder the more science developed in the past 5 years.

This was partly due to Lucky steering the scientists into the correct path using his past life's memories.

But how were the researchers who were also still in their 5th grade as of the current date were able to enter it?

It was simple, they didn't. Most of the researchers entered when the academy was still in its 1st or 2nd year. They had it easy.

There was an open secret though. If one wished to enter the department, they could go to the cave library and learn all the required knowledge there.

The problem was having no one but themselves to learn from. Thus, it was a self-study.

Not many were that determined to enter the department.

Even if the pay was extremely good, each new discovery became harder and harder to achieve.

'Such is science, the more advanced, the more complex it becomes....' thought Lucky.

That was one of the reasons why he chose to become a businessman in his past life.

Working in the STEM field required too much brain power.

And while one could argue that studying business management was also equally as comolex due to how interwoven with math it was, to Lucky, it was easier to apply in practice.

'If I want to live a good life, I need wealth and modern conveniences....'

Entering the research department building, Lucky saw goblins, specifically vampire goblins, in their own groups and corners.

Some were having discussions, whilst others were conducting experiments, and a few were writing on books.

In the big hall of the building, there stood a notice board.

This board was called the Challenge Board.

The more challenges a scientist completed, the more salary they received.

What were these challenges?

They were science challenges.

There were 2 types of challenges, one given by fellow researchers, and another given by Lucky.

The ones given by fellow researchers were simple challenges such as solving an equation that they had proposed and many more. Any researcher could do this, but the rewards were taken from the giver's own pockets.

Challenges by Lucky however, were often much more complex. And because of that, the rewards were immensely good such as salary increases, expensive jewels, or even money enough to buy a few houses.

The discovery of cement stemmed from one of his challenges.

And today, he was going to post a new challenge.

The title of the challenge was "Explosive Powder."

Yes, the day had finally come.

He was now trying to invent gunpowder.

'The first step of expanding my new kingdom is to widen our arsenal for weapons. Just becoming vampires isn't enough,' he thought with a smirk.
