Chapter 34: Sea King Attack
The next morning, the sky was overcast—just like the heavy hearts of everyone gathered.
At the top of the island, in front of Qingya Cliff, a crowd had assembled. All twenty thousand residents of Ring Tree Island had come.
Luo Han, Cole, Uncle Witt, and Uncle Kate stood at the edge of the cliff.
Luo Han kept his eyes shut tight, unable to look. His fingers clenched, and his whole body trembled at the words he heard around him.
"Mom… where's Grandma? I want Grandma!"
"Be good, Dabao, Grandma's on the other side. You'll see her soon," a mother choked back tears as she comforted her child.
"Dad, is Grandpa staying behind?"
"Yes… Be strong. Don't blame anyone. If we must blame something, blame our own weakness." A father and son consoled each other.
"Huh? Grandma Mo, you're staying too?"
"I'm old… I don't want to travel anymore. Let the others leave instead.
You should go—Xiao Luo Han has done so much for everyone. If I stay, how could we face him?"
People tried their best to convince her.
Grandma Mo simply repeated, "Let the others go. That's enough."
...
Tears streamed down Luo Han's face. His heart felt like a balloon full of water—fragile and heavy.
But the inevitable still came.
"Luo Han, Cole—get ready," Uncle Witt's voice pulled Luo Han back to reality.
He wiped his tears. With a thought, he lifted a massive circular rock platform—ten meters thick and a hundred meters wide—into the air from the island, slowly guiding it toward the cliffside.
Cole transformed into a three-thousand-meter-long Kun-beast. But in his fish form, he couldn't carry too many people on his back.
"Alright! Everyone, get ready! The young and able-bodied—head to Cole.
Those with physical impairments, and women and children—board the stone platform Luo Han is controlling!"
"Hurry up! Get on—we're about to depart!" Uncle Kate urged.
The sky brightened slightly.
People began making their way to Cole and the rock platform.
Only heavy breathing echoed across Ring Tree Island.
But as only the elders remained, children began to cry.
"Luo Han, don't push yourself. If something happens out there, it would be truly disastrous."
Uncle Witt looked at Luo Han, who was straining with bulging veins, and couldn't help but warn him.
"But… not everyone is up yet!" Luo Han said stubbornly, his eyes filled with desperation.
"Luo Han! Don't be reckless! Don't risk everyone's lives.
If something happens to you mid-flight, in an ocean full of Sea Kings, very few would survive!" Uncle Witt said sternly.
"But Grandma Mo hasn't come yet!!!"
Uncle Witt's furrowed brow relaxed. His mouth opened, but no words came. He didn't know what to say.
"Xiao Han… Did you forget what Grandma told you? You must protect Ring Tree Island.
As long as the people live on, that's where Ring Tree Island is.
I'm old. I don't want to suffer outside.
Be good… Xiao Han," Grandma Mo said, gently tapping her cane on the ground. Her kind words froze Luo Han in place.
"Grandma…"
He opened his mouth to say more, but all he could utter was one word: "Grandma…"
"Go, Luo Han!!!" Uncle Witt urged, holding back tears.
Hoo… Luo Han took a deep breath, his expression conflicted.
Then he controlled the stone platform to rise steadily into the sky.
At five thousand meters above the island, sunlight bathed the people in a soft, rainbow-colored glow.
But below, Grandma Mo's figure grew smaller and blurrier in Luo Han's eyes.
As noon approached…
A deafening roar filled the air. A massive shadow engulfed Ring Tree Island.
With a sudden surge, the ripening aura of the Scaled Fruit began spreading rapidly from the Divine Tree. The Sea Kings in the boundary zone responded instantly, surging toward the island.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Just ten kilometers from the island, thick tree roots, dozens of meters in diameter, shot out from the seabed like giant pythons, wrapping around the incoming Sea Kings.
At the same time, countless salt sharks surged through the sea like a wave of green ink, swarming the Sea Kings.
The Sea Kings opened their mouths, tearing at roots and devouring the salt sharks.
For a moment, the attack was stalled. The Sea Kings were pinned ten kilometers from the island by the combined defense of roots and salt sharks.
Soon, blood stained the sea red. Sharks, roots, Sea Kings—everything turned crimson.
The battle hit a deadlock.
Luo Han felt a spark of hope. Maybe… maybe Grandma Mo still had a chance.
But then—the sky darkened. Something had blocked out the sun.
Everyone looked up.
Hssssss!!! The 20,000-meter-long eel-like Sea King leapt from the ocean.
It opened its massive, snake-like jaws and swallowed a swarm of salt sharks in one gulp.
The crab-shaped Sea King followed, raising its mountain-sized claws and snapping off thick tree roots to devour, ignoring the salt sharks on its shell. Its armored body rendered their bites useless.
Instead, it gobbled them up.
Then, eight of the super-giant Sea Kings led the rest in a counterattack. The salt sharks vanished. The Divine Tree's roots began to weaken and fall.
Luo Han felt his whole body go cold, staring below in shock.
Yet the Sea Kings didn't directly attack the Divine Tree—they were eating the roots instead.
Seeing this, Luo Han felt something click.
He closed his eyes and spread his spiritual sense, focusing on the roots of the Divine Tree.
He sensed traces of the Scaled Fruit's scent traveling from the fruit down into the roots.
That must be it—the scent of the maturing fruit was gathering in the roots. The Sea Kings were targeting the scent, not the fruit itself.
Thinking it through, weren't the Sea Kings drawn here because of that scent? Whether it came from the fruit or the roots, it made no difference to them.
That might be why the last attack nearly uprooted the tree entirely.
But even if they devoured the roots, as long as the scent remained, the Sea Kings would eventually turn their attention to the tree itself.
Grandma Mo… everyone still down there…
Was there any other way?
Watching the Sea Kings devour the roots below, a spark lit in Luo Han's mind—information!
Back in his previous life as a university student, he had learned that all biological perception—touch, smell, sight, taste—came from specialized organs that received information.
It was that information that the brain interpreted as senses.
The Sea Kings' bodies were picking up the scent emitted from the roots—and interpreting it as the target of their desire.
So that's why they were eating the roots and ignoring the fruit.
If only he could block that information… then maybe they wouldn't attack the Divine Tree!
Hmm… No, that wouldn't work for the intelligent ones. Even if they lost the scent, they could still see, remember, and attack the tree.
Unless… unless all five of their senses could be blocked…
At that thought, Luo Han's lips curled slightly—his heart surged with hope!
I can do it. With the power of the Spiritual Fruit, I can manifest the ability to override all five senses!
